GRP compounds???????
forgive me if this has been answered, couldn't find anything in a search.
I don't want the stir up again what happened at kiddy, but i saw some posts saying why the GRP tyres were not an option and this was due to it not being a control tyre. Which got me thinking about the GRP tyres i thought there were 3 compounds A=soft B=medium C=hard . Looked on the Mirage site and the only ones they do are the C (hard) is this right ?And will they bring out the 2 other compounds or have they already been out and didn't work on our tracks and that's why Mirage don't seem to have them? |
a and b compounds are still to come - they are supposed to be released soon I believe.
|
 cheers jim
|
Indeed they are ;) Very good they are too....
|
yeah we have a+b compounds in the rallyx so im pretty sure you guys will have them soon...then wonder what the excuses will be? :)
|
There won't be any excuses. Its down to you guys to use them at anything but nationals, I am (only the C compound for now). If nobody uses them, then they won't be selected by the host club for the nationals.
|
I used them yesterday, 5 runs and they didn't fade on the Dirk Diggler, far more consistent than Yellows, but a slightly softer compound might be needed
|
Used them yesterday at jarrow in praccy and 3 rounds then changed to BB greens, liked them alot more i have to say, the BB's just didnt seem right (ye, i think we all know why :o) very impressed, loads of life left on them as well.
|
Do the c compound also work in the wet?
cheers. |
Yes, they probably werent as grippy as TR32's or the longer spikes but found them very nice to drive on, much for progressive and predictable than the BB's.
|
Adam used both compounds as the weather turned better, both worked well but we decided to run the B compound in the A final which seemed to be good choice.

Tyres in general, how does everyone remove the old rubber of the wheels????:)
|
Acetone (well, cheap nail polish remover) i tend to use the tires till there unusable so i can cut the main part of the tire away and remove the foam so it doesnt absorb it all.
|
Were do you get it from ? Halfords, motorworld.
do you just keep the wheel submurged overnight? :thumbsup:josh |
Boots  although theres a few people on here who sell pure acetone and it works out alot cheaper than buying nail polish remover. I just put one bottle full (250ml) in one of those sealable tubba-ware boxes and put them in till it comes off, when the acetone is new it usually does it over night but now i just leave them in till i need them or have another batch to do.
|
Make sure your container is air tight, or the stuff will evaporate away (and give you a bad head!)

Allthough i use Acetone, you can use nail varnish remover but dont go to boots £££££££ go to the pound shop plus its better stuff, more poatent than the expencive boots brand.

Slightly off topic, could you tell me where do:
- the "Pin" is used and with which compounds? - the "Spike" is used and with which compounds? I have in mind Spike in green for wet grass/astro and Pin in green for indoor! |
We use yellow pins indoors (although yellow spikes are o.k. too)
Yellow spikes outdoors (dry grass or astro) Green spikes wet outdoors (grass or astro) (schumacher compounds) GRP seem to cope better with varied conditions - one compound for dry and nearly wet |
Ye, i got s biggisg bottle from a local chemist for about 79p a bottle, cheaper it is the less other crap so the acetone is more concentrated.
