BRCA Kidderminster National - Cragg and Martin take the honours

The weekend of the 19th & 20th saw the first round of the 2008 BRCA 10th off road National series, held at the multi-surface Kidderminster track in the mid-west of England.
Saturdays 2WD event saw early promise for Tom Yardy who won the first two qualifiers, but Neil Cragg came back in style to take the next two and line up Pole for the final. Neil Went on to win legs 1 and 3 to take the first 2WD National of the season.

In the 4WD things were far more simple - 2007 reigning champion, Lee Martin, dominated from start to finish with his Associated B44, taking every qualifier and all three legs of the A final.

jimmy 23-04-2008 01:57 PM

Or Southport regional from the week before! So many minutes in a day! If I didn't stub my toe last night I'd have had that secret review car half built instead of just the drive shafts :(

Mrs oOple 23-04-2008 02:04 PM

Yeah but you wouldn't have slept until 6 am either!
I'm going to put obstacles out for your toes every night now that I know what the trick is :woot:

c0sie 23-04-2008 02:14 PM

Give Pidge a 3 wheeled brick and he'd probably still make the A with it :D

He's attention seeking, not to be encouraged..............

Great report as always.. 7 makes of 4wd in the final that is excelent and shows how competitive the class is.

Superb report as always Jimmy - You always manage to keep it interesting!

Well done to Neil and Lee, awesome results, good job Stan in 2wd and especially Mossy in 4wd with the Cat - A great outdoor Debut for the car so i hope this increases the interest even more  (p.s it must have been the strength testing i did that helped)

Jimbo 24-04-2008 03:13 AM

Excellent report as always Jimmy:thumbsup:

Very interested in the forthcoming chassis 'expose', especially who is running brushed/brushless and what exactly they are running.

No one I know has had much luck in 2wd with brushless, so interested in knowing what those that use it succesfully are up to.

Keep up the good work!

bender 24-04-2008 07:45 AM

I always like reading about your National series over there, and as always Jimmy's excellent photos make it even more enjoyable.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the performance of the new Cat too, almost as good a debut as the Aero last year.

I would say the whole 2wd A final ran brushless. I would be suprised if anyone ran brushed:thumbsup:

bigred5765 24-04-2008 10:14 AM

brushless is so much better than brushed in 2wd
as long as you dont try running silly 4 turn motors lol
more control, better performance, and no silly skimming and re brushing

Serious?

my brushless was amazing!

this year I ran 6.5 LRP X11 motor 12.5mm sintered rotor (bonded would have been good though, I think Yardy used one) speedo settings 2-3-2-2 on an LRP Sphere Comp/TC in my B4 geared on 22/78

LRP Fat Cobra 4600 Batteries which were not short of a few volts.

my car was so smooth and LOADS of mid-top end.

jimmy 24-04-2008 10:41 AM

Maybe a lot of people were 'overpowered' at first. I've not tried these slower motors or smaller diameter rotors, but all sounds good if Neil can win with a 7.5

dave g 24-04-2008 10:53 AM

great report as usual jimmy and well done pidge, keep it going.

dave

Kopite 24-04-2008 11:31 AM

yeah, i was running a 6.5 sintered, but i think either a 6.5 bonded or 7.5 sintered would've been a little easier to drive in 2wd.

...but brushless is far and away my favourite change since i came back into racing, followed by Spektrum. The best thing about brushless is that i don't have to worry about buying one and it being naff (which i had a lot of during the older days of brushed).

MattADH 24-04-2008 12:28 PM

I ran bonded as I am using a borrowed 6.5 in my 2WD although I am going to switch to 12.5mm sintered rotors in both classes for Oswestry...

Yes I need to tweak the gearing and speedo settings but there are a number of benefits to sintered.

I also think that with a year of experience, racers have learnt how to reduce the chances of water getting in and causing problems.

Robbo 24-04-2008 12:49 PM

Sweet report dude! Always good, and some awesome shots once again! Nice to see my 2WD making the banner too! Cheers man, looks cool!

GRIFF55 24-04-2008 01:00 PM

Which 2wd would that be mate!! Bit harsh, sorry:)
