Cheers, I am only going to use it for 6.5 off road and 10.5 on road so may well buy 2 at this price! ;)

I use this in a B4 with a losi 8.5 and it has been superb so far ( Touching something wood).

Word of warning though, the 70amp version does not come with a fan and it is quite large, also the wires for the capaciter are quite short, no serious problem just a bit of a pain.

If I had my choice again I think I'd get the 100amp version, but would'nt hesitate buying another if I needed to put one in a second car.:)

i would stay as far away from this esc both 70amp and 100amp the 100 amp wont run a 5.5 in a 4wd buggy and the service from orion is crap (not kyosho) they would not accept it back for repaire even tho it was still in warrenty orion say it will run 100amp down to a 3.5t motor but not nessasarly on a 7.2v pack.

dont get me wrong im not knocking the distributers of the orion products kyosho uk they are fantastic and were a great help when tring to get my issue resolved however orion them selfs wasn't.

if you have a valid uk shop receipt less than 12 months old and have used within the purpose its designed for ie not drowned it they have no choice but to inspect it and offer a replacement or reason for invalidating warranty thats the law mate if no joy contact trading standards providing you aint cooked it by missuse

yes i konw that but mirage racing would not except it back as it was purchased direct from them and they no longer deal with orion they told me to send it to kyosho kyosho in there own right said send it back to the place you purchased it from but mirage told me if i sent it to them they would send it back to me. so i emailed nano at orion he said it was not fit for the purpose and it was never advertised as a 3.5t limit and the shops advertising this esc have not got there information for orion however i wasn't running a 3.5t but a 5.5t but this motor could also exceed the 100amp limit, any way the last email that was sent to nano at orion consisted on you cant send it back to us as we cannot prosess returns direct so there you have it the esc is now out of warranty it must have cost me more in phone calls than the cost of it in the first place luckly my racing didn't depend on running this esc it was only ever intended to be a spare in the box and its got to the point i cant be bothered to argue over it anymore. oh i did speak to trading standards but again more letters more phone calls id rather not use any orion products again.

as for esc save your money and bye a tekin rs the support is soooo much better.

do you have the direct email for orion please, as i am having the same problem with the vortex speedo that i had off mirage.
Thanks

madmax 11-07-2009 05:15 PM

hi ive got one of those vortex speedo's and am running it with a 10.5 speed passion, absolutley no problems here, a fastrax fan bolts directley on to the top of the speedo aswell.

but i wouldnt run a 6.5 with it as orion dont give a motor limit with the speedo and a couple of people have had problems with them on 6.5 motors i would say a 7.5 would be perfectley happy with it

griff m8 i would speek to kyosho france about the speedo now as they are the distributors, their is a uk importer now but i dont know who it is.

GRIFF55 11-07-2009 06:00 PM

the orion vortex race speedo is rated to a 4.5t motor and with the fan kit fitted, down to a 2.5t as mine was. Don't think i'd ever go below a 5.5 anyhow.

you maybe getting confused with the ko orion esc.

GRIFF55 12-07-2009 06:29 PM

sorry, yes mine is the orion/ko speedo. still, do you have a contact email as all i've tried are not getting a response?

lodders127 15-07-2009 08:59 PM

where abouts did ou get this from ?

The current rating (as with so many ESCs) is more than likely the burst rating.

If you can dig up some specs on the motor you intend to use, such as max. current draw (or maximum power, then divide by the lowest voltage you will use to get max current - i.e for a Lipo about 6.8-7V as the voltage drops under load), then compare this figure with the ESC rating (and give yourself 10% headroom for safety due to false max current claims).

If you always do this then if the ESC fails then they can hardly say it was you fault unless you did something silly with gearing or water.

The LRP 3-Star says that max power is 283W, which divided by 6.8V is 41A, so apparently well within the ESCs limits. Check your gearing with others running similar motors in the same car and be honest with yourself - was there water on the track that you 'may' have gone through etc.

If you still think there's something wrong with the ESC then get in touch with them quoting various laws and your running figures (as above). If the current is suitably low (as above) then accuse them of overrating their ESCs etc, which, effectively, is what all companies do to a certain extent.

Mirage made a lot of mistakes with many things which inevetibly led to their demise. The Orion situation is a good example.

1. Firstly as the Orion esc have an amp rating many customers do not understand what they need for their cars. The motor limits mirage published was stupid.
it all depends on usage but as a rule the 70 amp is ok for touring car stock or slightly faster wind an a buggy.
The 100 amp one is ok for 10.5 turn in touring car or slightly faster in a buggy.

The other problem is Mirage sold a lot of orion direct to the customers, who was supposedly sponsored drivers.
This cut out the shops and led to mis-selling of products not suitable for many of the race classes they was being used in.

If you got anything direct from mirage you got it as a sponsored driver of Mirage at a discounted price. You want have any warranty with any one other than Mirage.

The last thing that happened with Mirage is they sold as much stock as possible at whatever price they could before they closed. many of the shops bought big quantitys at a very low price. A lot of those shops need to clear that stock so they are selling at a very reduced price to clear.
So look out for some real good bargins as there are still some out there but be aware that any problems could be tough to fix thereafter, especially with the online shops that dont deal with the new distributor.

The 70A can handle a lot more than a 13.5t motor. Hell - it should be able to handle more than its stated limit of 6.5t.
It is after all a rebadged Hobbywing unit, from their Xerun range. The cheaper sensorless only Ezrun is only a 60A unit but runs a 5.5t 6000kV motor and does so reliabily in buggies and TC's.
The higher specced Xerun should realistically be able to run the same at least. It certainly works just fine with a 7.5t in a buggy, though due to the high temps this summer so of us have fitted fans.

Buck_Rodgers 25-07-2009 04:52 PM

i have one of these. it certainly seems to run hot and would definately recomend getting a fan of some sort. I'm just about to get one

dodgydiy 25-07-2009 10:26 PM

35 amp ezrun happily runs a 9 turn, cant remember peak currant rating but if i remember correctly its around 150 amps on that, so a 70a speedo should handle something like a 5.5 easily

qatmix 27-07-2009 12:04 PM

I have a problem with my orion 70a, its seems to jump when I plug in my 10.5 exceleron. When its on sensored I need to spin the end of the motor to make it start.

On sensorless it stutters and jumps all over the shop. Ive tried replacing the sensor lead, but that made no difference.

The motor is fine as I hooked that onto my speed passion and it runs smoothly.
