Knackered Clio

My mightly clio has finally kicked the bucket! Head gaskets gone and after 145000 less than carefully driven miles, its not worth fixing.

So anyone got any idea whats the best way of getting rid of it? I was hoping to sell it for parts or something? Anyone want to buy it!

Rich

You could strip it and sell the bits on Ebay, or get a scrappy to pay you for it (probably only £50) and you wont have the hassle of trying to get rid of a shell. Or Ebay it.

jono83 14-05-2009 10:17 AM

how old is it?

rich_cree 14-05-2009 11:29 AM

9 years annoyingly!

jono83 14-05-2009 11:34 AM

gutted was gonna say you can get a scrappage allowance like £2000-£3000!!!

Chrislong 14-05-2009 11:36 AM

But if it can sit on your drive 12months declared as Sorn, then you get the scrappage allowance.

Tow it to a field, burn it and claim on insurance lol , Make sure you get out the car first though for H&S reasons :eh?:

You can take it to any scrap metal yard and weigh it in

ryan_93 14-05-2009 03:09 PM

Lee 14-05-2009 03:14 PM

Got to have an MOT for scrapage allowance

Gaz_Stanton 14-05-2009 06:33 PM

Does anyone have a link for the details of this scrappage scheme?
I got a 9 year old Jag so I wouldn't get raped by the high tax based on the emissions of a 4 litre V8, but if i can get a worthwhile amount off a new car soon it might work out even better.

And back on topic; Rich, the clio could make an ok chicken coop...

Scrappage is only available for one year at the moment, and the pot of cash is finite too... if the economy picks up then I expect the government will stop the scheme, SORN may not be worth the hassle.

Some of the manufacturers are doing their own "scrappage" schemes, I think both Citroen and Nissan are offering a guaranteed trade-in against slightly newer cars. Although probably works out the same as you could barter off anyway!

What we did with my girlfriend's old car was donate it to the fire service for training (ie cutting the roof off and setting it on fire). Seemed like a more worthwhile way to end a cars life than paying someone to scrap it.
