Im working on a budget lol

frogger 10-12-2007 11:06 AM

Cris, you won't go far wrong with the kit tyres :) They will however grip a little too much to start with so maybe run them on concrete first to take the edge off ;)

Also, if you buy new rims, make sure you drill a little hole in them before glueing the new tyres on so you don't bounce all over the place from trapped air :)

Elliott Hopkins 10-12-2007 11:29 AM

For the 2wd fronts. Do racers use skinny pins or the fatter 4wd pins?

Elliott.

markwilliamson2001 10-12-2007 11:38 AM

I always used 2wd skinny fronts, they gave more than enough steering.

Hi mate,

If you haven't got any Schumachers, you may get away with Green or Blue BB Minipins which will probably work, but not as well as the Schumacher tyre....

markwilliamson2001 10-12-2007 11:44 AM

Ballistic Blue MiniPins are okay, I used them on a Pred on carpet for a club meeting, don't have the edge of the Schumey's (which is nice) but they don't last half as long....

Hi Elliott! Slim fronts for most i believe, it seems to work ok - but it's always hard to get enough on power steering with 2wd on carpet so just be aware of that if it feels like it's understeering on power. Rob Rasey has run the 4wd fronts and they work ok, but i think the slim ones will give a better balance.

Gaz_Stanton 10-12-2007 11:54 AM

Just entered. :)

Will schumacher minipins be available on the day?

markwilliamson2001 10-12-2007 12:01 PM

Try giving M-K Racing a call/email. Marc will be the shop onsite during the day I believe...

Oh No, not you again:D:D:D:D

RogerM 10-12-2007 12:35 PM

Chris, running anything other than Schumy Mini pins will be false economy as you'll probably need a couple of sets to do the day where the Schumy tires will last all day .... and probably the next event too.

Did you see how worn the Minis were on my RB5 at caldicot, Tq'd with them and the guys running fresher tyres weren't pulling me in on grip ..... it's the yellow that does the traction .... mini spike / mini pin just determines the side-bite and aggressiveness of the car.

Chris Green 10-12-2007 12:55 PM

I'm not sure if my mini-pin fronts will be here in time for my B4.

I've got schumy yellow pin rears, and yellow mini spike fronts at the moment? This worked alright at a recent club meeting?

Should I order some more yellow pin fronts, to make sure I get at least one pair in time?

Thanks.

Southwell 10-12-2007 01:10 PM

Errr, who has the tyres in stock? I forgot to order them lol.

MK Racing 10-12-2007 01:18 PM

MK racing will have a shop there on Sunday, I have sold out of Yellow Mini Pins over the weekend but will have more in on Wednesday.

Marc

c0sie 10-12-2007 02:51 PM

Marc, how much per pair fella?

yo
i got some you can borrow chris if they aint here in time , got a couple of sets for hereford so you will be sorted what ever !!!!

Nick Goodall 10-12-2007 03:20 PM

On Friday just gone i ran new fronts with a nearly new set of rears and after two practise runs and 4 races the rear tyres are pretty well shot but i'll hold my hand up and say that the car was honestly quicker towards the end of the night, fair enough i was getting used to it but i did my quickest lap times with worn tyres so there's still plenty of grip even as they wear!

markwilliamson2001 10-12-2007 03:40 PM

Just done one meeting on my yellow minipins, they have now bedded in nicely and are ready for MK GP!!

Cheers Wes, I appreciate that. I've got some on order, so I might be alright. But I'll come and see you if nothing arrives.

Mark, have you completed 4 runs on a set, and they are still gonna be alright for Sunday? is that 2WD or 4WD?

markwilliamson2001 10-12-2007 04:19 PM

6 runs!!

Yes, they will be fine for Sunday (schuey yellow minipins that is)..

Mark
