Budgio, you can get the slipper from

www.TamiyaShop.ch
Or rc champ I think has them too
Let us know if you manage to track down the cvd. Not found anywhere that has them yet!

Does anyone know where I can get the damper parts bag for the 501X (9404701)
Can't find anywhere with stock

BSR How did she go??

Cheers

ralphee 08-12-2007 05:30 PM

Well i caved on buying a 501x, so my beloved bought me one of these for Xmas.
Ive got it from Stella and frankly cant wait. I will now start racing once more with this one.
Ill have to read through where to bag some of the hop up parts, but id also like to get hold of the 501 dampers, carbon towers and CVD's.
Oh yeah a slipper too.
Now i have an excuse to take a break from Star Wars studio replicas lol.
Any painters here able to pull off a Satoshi shell for me?

Well - I'm truly knackered. it's past 2am and I've got the Durga ready to race tomorrow...... minus shell :( so I'm gonna have to run clear which is a shame. I'm taking my 501X and all the spares for that also just in case.

I decided to go for tame power- a 14x2 peak vantage, since I don't have a slipper yet.

I only got the car on friday night so Im quite pleased to have it more or less done already (including all the photos and writing, of course)

It's looking good for a bumper christmas of reviews and articles :)

Carlos69 09-12-2007 04:55 AM

Can't wait to see another top notch review by you Jimmy !

grrrr.... bloody parcel farce, I won't get mine till Tuesday.... let me know how it goes Jim!!

jimmy 09-12-2007 10:20 AM

Will do! :) they have internet here, cool!

I was already advised that digital cameras cause interference, which more or less kills my entire website - but luckily I have the HB guys on my side :)

I ran the car in practice, once I got the transmitter set up and learned how to drive a car without a one way, it was quite good. the 14x2 is fast enough in here I think - theres not much to test the car but I'll try my 501X shocks on it later. So far it handles pretty well but I'm in he top heat of 4WD so I don't think I'll be winning any heats :)

btw Steve, get a screw kit.

ralphee 09-12-2007 10:27 AM

Wow, this is a cool review indeed Jimmy, i can almost feel the sticks lol.
Im eager to find out how she does!

lee

DCM 09-12-2007 11:00 AM

screw kit, will sort one out then, is the reveiw uploaded then?

jimmy 09-12-2007 11:05 AM

lol - nah! you know me steve, I need to go get outdoor action photos and bling photos which take a while (especially when it's raining all the time!)

First run was a wash out - coming out of a corner I just lost all the power so I just let go of the throttle incase I damaged something. Turned out the motor had moved is all - I'd used the wrong washers for the motor screws. The spur survived intact so I just put it back together properly this time.

Landing off the big jump isn't great, the car bounces a bit - i'll try the 501X shocks in a bit.

DCM 09-12-2007 11:33 AM

the bouncing is due to the plastic shocks.... motor moving... you bad BAD man roflol, is the spur gear the same size as B4's
Do the action shots later Jim, I need to know what I got coming lol.

bender 09-12-2007 11:50 AM

DCM - the car comes with a 91t spur gear, and the 87 AE spur will fit too. I don't think the original 96T 501x spur will fit - I think it would rub on the chassis.

My car is built now minus electrics, but I probably won't get to run it until next year :(

AaronR 09-12-2007 12:24 PM

So this 91T spur gear is another alternative for 501X owners to use?

jimmy 09-12-2007 01:18 PM

yeah, it will fit the 501X. I wasn;t sure about the 87T AE spur, but that's good news since it's the only one I have as a spare. I do have the 501X spurs but I don't think it will fit.
Pinion fell off in second run! I'm cursed!! I have the long boss 501X pinions - but you need a short pinion for this car! haha.. I've managed to move it further on so it should be OK now.

ralphee 09-12-2007 01:54 PM

Nevermind the Durga, did you find that pinion :p

lee

DCM 09-12-2007 01:56 PM

if he got all the overs on... it will defo be in there lol....

jimmy 09-12-2007 02:08 PM

haha yeah it was rather patheticly just sat there next to the motor. A slipper would be good around here - landing off the jumps and getting on the power gets the front wheels in the air which slows me down a lot.
The track is small - I changed to schumacher tyres and with the basic car and kit setup i was getting to 12.7 laps - the top guys were on 12.1 - so it's pretty dialled now.

DCM 09-12-2007 02:29 PM

thats pretty dam close Jimmy.

ralphee 09-12-2007 02:48 PM

That does sound close, impressive, whats in the arsenal your up against Jimmy? Glad the pinion was still nestled in there lol, ill bet it had a little wry grin on its toothy little face :D

lee

jimmy 09-12-2007 03:49 PM

lol
I'm in the same heat as matt dodd and Adam Skelding. The fast times in round four were 11.8 or there abouts - I came down to 12.4. I only did 4 laps sadly - slamming the car into the start loop bridge which does NOT move! haha.

I stuck 501X shocks on for the last qualifiers - so I broke a wishbone and a shock shaft. Happy with that since I could repair it. The plastic front hinge pin brace is pretty strong!

ralphee 09-12-2007 04:04 PM

So im guessing so far this baby gets the Oople seal of approval?
Sounds like your having some fun with her anyways!

drinternat 09-12-2007 07:33 PM

When are you going to upload the reveiw. I still only have mine about a third built. I have no idea how tight to make the diffs.

DCM 09-12-2007 07:33 PM

the diffs need to be tight enough so that when you hold the outdrives locekd still you can't turn the pulley....

drinternat 09-12-2007 07:41 PM

Ah! Now the instructions make sense. I guess I need to take it apart again to get at the sprocket. thaks DCM. (wish you lived near me!!!)

DCM 09-12-2007 07:50 PM

you don't need to take it apart, easiest thing to do is lock the outdrives still and turn the psur gear over, if the spur turns (if you got a slipper clutch, tighten it up fully), remove the driveshaft from the diff screw side and tighten it an 1/8th of a turn at a time.

drinternat 09-12-2007 07:53 PM

OK ill have a go at it tomorrow then. Thanks again

DCM 09-12-2007 07:58 PM

no worries, and I don't even have my car yet grrr

mrbiccies 09-12-2007 10:25 PM

Am I correct in saying that saddle packs don't fit? shame if that is the case.......:(

A.J. Gee 09-12-2007 10:46 PM

Is it just me or does the manual for the durga not include instructions for the placement of the decals? Another thing that i discovered is that none of my receivers fit in the spot provided for them. Now it looks like i will have to order the tamiya Tru-02 receiver which fits perfectly. Money that i dont have at the moment.

budgio 09-12-2007 10:52 PM

Mines built apart from the body posts which i left out thinking i could get away with velcro to keep the shell on.Any tips guys ? or do i have to ream the shell and fit the posts?

Also what colour scheme you all using? mine still needs a bit of colour :)

A.J. Gee 09-12-2007 10:58 PM

Yes you are correct in saying saddle packs dont fit. Why would they? Have you looked at the chassis at all?

I have tried with a futaba fp-r122je and a hitec hp-2rnb. I know for sure they dont fit.

They'll fit no problem, the chassis is designed to fit side by side packs.

If the receiver doesn't fit have you tried the ESC there and the receiver behind the motor?

The problem i have if i put the receiver behind the motor is running the receiver wire over the motor. By the time the wire goes through the antenna hole and up through the antenna tube it is very short, plus i dont wanna have it going over the motor because of heat.

DCM 09-12-2007 11:46 PM

you mount the aerial back there.... but seriously, how big is your receiver, I got a few TA05's and only the older receivers don't fit... and they are mahousive.... bricks..

The receiver dimensions are 1.82" length 1.31" width. I know that i can find receivers that fit in there, but its just a bit disapointing. I want everything to fit nicely without having wires running wild so im not about to place things where they shouldnt be.

I think you'll definately have to keep the rear posts, but the front of the body will hold on ok with velcro.
