k£v!n 10-11-2007 08:09 PM

I broke 1 front wishbone, the pinion gear came loose and the servo saver snapped.

IceMike 10-11-2007 08:09 PM

you know that front metal bulkhead taht looks indistructable. well i totally bent that

Lee 10-11-2007 08:18 PM

HOW?

Im no expert, i raced tourers up until last year, and the BJ has taken a beating. I couldnt wish for a stronger car tbh

IceMike 10-11-2007 08:20 PM

the week after i got a brushless hit sumat and it didnt wanna move.

Lee 10-11-2007 08:28 PM

but wouldnt any car beak?

I cant see the B44 being any stronger, its the same design:rolleyes:

IceMike 10-11-2007 08:29 PM

its not the same design. might look it but its not

ryan 10-11-2007 08:57 PM

When i owned a BJ4 WE i found the thing that broke the most was the front wishbones and i no a few other people that ran the car had the same problem. But any car will break if hit at the right angle....

I still can't believe you went through that massive pack of all those wishbones AND then snapped the beefy alu bulkhead!!! :o
I ran that car the whole year before you had it and only broke one or two wishbones. Must be a special talent of yours... :wtf:

Hope you have enough spare for tomorrow! :p

sly 10-11-2007 11:46 PM

for those lucky people who have got there b44 kits, do they come with a undertray?
Cheers Sly.

ashleyb4 10-11-2007 11:52 PM

So what did you think Mike after running it at kiddy today?

IceMike 11-11-2007 05:34 PM

awesome, i was goin careful thinkin that i had no spares. and at start i had it totally geared wrong had to go up 8 teeth. but it had bags of grip all i did all day was change the rear springs to silver. and i think that was a wrong move for the conditions in the final. best result ive had. cant wait till i can drive it properly

IceMike 11-11-2007 05:35 PM

did expect you to come have a look though matt

matdodd 11-11-2007 10:11 PM

Ye I was going to but just didnt seem to have much time, I might come down osfest in the week an have a look then :)

delanobe 13-11-2007 03:04 PM

For those who already received the kit:

Does it come with a front one way or centre one way? Does the car need one to be competitive on astro or indoor (carpet)

Thanks!

IceMike 13-11-2007 03:07 PM

ive never really liked the one way, used one ones an didnt notice the difference. but the b44 doesnt come with one. and i have one used it on astro and carpet so far. but it felt really good.

delanobe 13-11-2007 03:14 PM

That's good news!

Does it have enough steering?
Grip roll?
Wich tires are you using?

Thanks

IceMike 13-11-2007 03:18 PM

it was a wet track an only got wetter and i was only using yellow minis warn ones at first an new when it was really wet. this is on astro.

i havent had any grip rol yet. the car is straight out the box. an i know i have had plenty of grip to gip grip roll.

steering lock is prity good. much better than a bj4we.

delanobe 13-11-2007 03:26 PM

Somebody has some experience with the car on a indoor carpet?

I'm tempted to sell my loaded TRF for a B44 because of the grip roll I have with it.

It's even so that lots of people are using schumacher stagger ribs on astro and carpet because of the grip roll.

IceMike 13-11-2007 03:29 PM

its the same on carpet mate. i had yellow mini spikes on the front and yellow mini pins on the rear because thats all i had and it stuck to the floor and went where i wanted it to. if anything i had to much grip and it turned in to much but didnt loose the back end at all and i didnt roll it once. i put about 4 packs though it to test it. and it didnt roll once

delanobe 13-11-2007 03:31 PM

Maybe I sould give the B44 a try then :D

IceMike 13-11-2007 03:34 PM

at the weekend i placed 4 places atleast higher than i normally would and i dont think i was drivin that fast as i was scared of breaking it so it is a good car

delanobe 13-11-2007 03:40 PM

Somebody interested in a loaded TRF (all options possible with spares "almost enough to make a second car" and a pro painted body?) :wtf:

Lee 13-11-2007 03:41 PM

Maybe because you were making less mistakes?

you say you were running yellow mini`s on a wet astro track, i would give you a weeks wages if you could get any car to grip roll:rolleyes:

And you say it has more steering lock than the BJ4, how much do you need?

The 501X has the same suspension geometry, the same shock setup and a very similar weight distribution to the B44 - I think your 501X needs a setup change if it's grip rolling where a B44 isn't. :)

delanobe 13-11-2007 03:52 PM

I don't have the B44 yet so I can not compare it. In our club everybody is racing with stagger ribs on the front because the grip roll is to extreme.
We tried all the possible set ups etc... (even with internal shock limiters)

Cars like the XX4 or BJ4 don't have this problem with mini pin on the fronts with the same set up?

jimmy 13-11-2007 03:59 PM

Have you tried the same setup as the BJ4? Remeber the 501X is a copy of that car, with belts. Not trying to convince you to stay with your Tamiya - but I'm sure the car should be tunable as any others - especially the bj4we.

delanobe 13-11-2007 04:02 PM

I tried the exact same setup as the BJ4 without any luck.

As you can imagine the steering with stagger ribs is not good enough to race in a good line and with mini pins the grip roll is always there so you can not push the car at all.

The only thing I didn't try so far is using mini spike's on the front (carpet and dry astro)

I don't think I'm going to sell the TRF, it's a beautifull car (especially with all the blue stuff on it)

Gayo 13-11-2007 04:25 PM

To avoid grip rolling, you can go radical and put a thin layer of CA glue on the outside wall of the front tyres. It is VERY effective for taking out front grip, believe me.
And if you went too far, use a sanding drum on a Dremel and take off the CA. Easy and reversible

delanobe 13-11-2007 04:30 PM

We tried to cut 3 rows in and outside of the front mini pins and even than we had grip roll when we push the car a bit.

Glueing the side is less extreme than cutting the rows I think??

Elliott Hopkins 13-11-2007 04:47 PM

Wow, I'm a bit dissappointed that the B44 is so much better than a BJ4WE. I was perversely going for a BJ4WE to 'have something different' and I prefer the shell anyway (I know they are interchangable).

Elliott.

Nobody has said why the B44 is better, from what i take from the thread, those who have broken the BJ4 would do so with any car they were given.

If you go for a BJ4 you will not be disappointed!

i'll second that :D

footey 13-11-2007 05:16 PM

third:D

Elliott Hopkins 13-11-2007 05:28 PM

Obviously I won't see the difference at this (club) level. And I get the feeling I'll be a thrasher in 4WD so steering lock won't be important.

Elliott.

Lee 13-11-2007 05:56 PM

Once you have the magic setup on the BJ4, you dont touch it, its just fast anywhere, even when i drive it (well fastish)

AndyM 13-11-2007 06:03 PM

has anyone done any back-to-back testing with the bj4 against a B44??

is there a massive difference in the way they drive?

mattym0310 13-11-2007 08:33 PM

just found this pic of one with a team azarashi bodyshell, looks great i think...
