So any news on the mouldings being too big?

I still have to use the arrma idle gear otherwise its too tight, this works but I still want to use the TD parts. Mine is too noisy with the extra metal idle gear.

I like the silent assassin approach, not the screaming banshee

I even seem to have one spot that is tighter than the rest.

I still have a tight spot on mine that has not really improved after 2 full meetings of running...

However, it has not caused any apparent issues with the mesh, sounds nice and quiet and is still fast with no overheating. I just made sure the gears were lubricated with black grease and this seems OK. Just need to make sure ZERO grit gets in between the teeth though, as that would be a recipe for disaster!

I've also had to replace the kit x-rings with the shock o-rings as I had a leak at one side...yet to be run but hopefully it will keep the oil inside the diff better! So far only ran with 3K oil and it seems OK, although would like to try going up and down to see how it feels - when I ran on dry Astro the other week, the car didn't seem to want to rotate as much as I would have liked on power...maybe going lighter would help?

Yes, I can confirm that some gears are to big. I got a new diff gear send to me today.
The new one fits like a glove, and the gear box spins silk smooth

OneKiwi 20-03-2012 06:03 PM

got mine today as well

Drove the car last day with the new diff gear. Such a difference! The gearbox is so smooth, and almost soundless.
I'm happy Durango sorted it out, and thought of us customers :)
I was surprised when I suddenly got a mail that they wanted to send me a new diff gear. 10 points to Durango

Yes, I just bought a new gear diff and it's perfect. I believe the new batch all came with the correct size gears. Great reaction from TD!

issue on mine wasnt really worth worrying about it was so minor, but i got sent a new diff case anyway so all good

My thoughts too as I'm wanting to buy one!

Quick question: What is the right size for the screw driver for the 8 screws at the Diff?

Aran 01-04-2012 11:03 AM

Got a new main gear too, fits perfectly and spins freely!

Steve I they are 0.050". Like this hex driver:

I have a gear diff from the second batch. filled with durango 1000cst.
It does feel smooth but at the same time it feels a bit to tight/heavy.

when turning by hand you can feel the teeth of the spider gears getting contact, Is that because it is brand new?

Is it because I use the 2 copper shims from the ball diff on each side? or do I need lighter diff oil ?

I only ran 1 raceday ( 6 heats of 6 minutes ). Do I need to give it some time? maybe after a few packs ?

any thoughts ?

edit:
Or is it maybe , that I used O-rings from Tresrey # TYS246 red o-rings
when installing those O-rings they were slightly to big, but I got them to fit and put the e-clip in the groove with a little force. Could they couse such a drag ?

Kusal 24-04-2012 09:53 PM

Normally you do not use any copper shims of the ball diff on the gear diff; take them out, put the gear diff back in the gear box and pinch the gearbox together. There should be a slight lateral movement of the diff.
But I agree that the gear diff feels a bit notchy but it will go away once run in.

jkclifford 25-04-2012 05:40 AM

I had a 410 diff that was notchy as hell even after 30mins rum was still not smooth.

I filled it with cutting oil, spun it up with an electric drill for a few seconds ( put an old drive shaft in the chuck held the main gear) tipped out the grey slurry, smoooooooth as silk. (you will prob need new seals as the Cutting oil makes them swell)

mark christopher 25-04-2012 05:30 PM

your prob not knocking the large gear onto the outdrive enough

jkclifford 27-04-2012 03:39 AM

That would make it tight, bit not give it a tight spot or knock at one point in the revolution.

If all the diff parts were like the newer machined main diff ring, I'm sure that would build one sweeeet diff.............
