Love those shells mate, top work!

eyeayen 04-05-2012 09:23 PM

Guys  thank you, to every single one of you that posted, I don't ever think my work is particularly good and I'm rarely happy with how it comes out, reading all your kind words does boost my confidence though.

I get the impression Alec is going to be mugging the postie in the morning
Glad you like them sir !

And really guys, thank you :)

jonmiller 04-05-2012 10:05 PM

there ya go buddy, was worth all the swearing in the end then hey

coleman758 04-05-2012 11:02 PM

Nice job pal, design is one of a kind.
The tamiya shell looks the best. The flag shading on the ansman shell looks a little dark.

It was strange that, I did them side by side at the same time, same paint, gradually building up the colour but it did come out darker on the Ansmann, they have a horrible tinted overspray film too so you don't quite get a true colour.

In real life though not in a photo the ansmann looks good, the Tamiya is a little bright perhaps, from any distance not close up the ansmann looks more real on the flag but you're right it is darker.

Steveonamission 04-05-2012 11:33 PM

I've been stairing at them that long, that I forgot to comment!

Just how do you do that? !

So nice! I even thought that the Ansmann flag would look more realistic in person due to the shading compared to the Tamiya. Super inspiring work as always.

Rich D 05-05-2012 08:56 PM

stunning work there !

eyeayen 05-05-2012 09:15 PM

Just finished these 2 shells for Alec Springer. The yellow is a Candy with some very course white metallic behind it, goes mental in the sun, doesn't show up with my poor photography. The flag and window frames are my usual retina burning bright orange and the feathers where just left in basic colours with shadows and the fade. There are a lot of things I'd do differently next time but I'm happy with how everything has come out.

Really ? Wow, thank you

U1timate PigDog 06-05-2012 05:52 PM

Looking good once again, prefer the flag on the furthest back as others have said but they both look great either way

Keep them coming !!

julianb 06-05-2012 07:59 PM

Sublime!

I've still a way to go! Did you use a transparent black for the flag shading or just add a little black to the base of each colour?

Love the feather design at the front. Highly original. I must think outside the box a little more...tribal is getting a bit....old. ;-)

cheers

Ju

eyeayen 06-05-2012 09:48 PM

Thanks Graham ! They look better in real life. If I was using solvent paint I think they would have come out better as I know I can spray at a lower pressure and get finer detail.

@ Julian - Yeah I thinned some black down so it was mostly thinner to build up the colour gradually for the shading on the flag. I did put other colours in to try and darken it in a more subtle way but they all got lost when I put the backing colour on so I can't have put enough on, I still find it very difficult working backwards. And I can't take any credit for the design Alec was very precise about what he wanted and how he wanted it, I just evolved past shells that he had painted before.

Not really no, just someone who was very clear with what he wanted, I'm used to it from painting the car crash helmets, there are some briefs you can't deviate from which I don't mind actually.

Tron Inspired DEX408 Bodyshell

This one has been a long time in production. I was given some reference from the new TRON film and I sourced what else I could from the web including concept sketches and film stills. From them I worked up a design. Creating the "glow" effect was tricky but it's turned out nice after a lot of time making sure I could get it to work. I'd like to thank the owner of this shell for being so patient while I got this right for him.

Evening Gents.

Thanks to Ian I have a really fantastic looking car. Nice one Ian!

I would fully recommend anyone who is not in a rush to use Ian to paint your shell. Top job mate. Heres a few pics of it in action today.

I had a really good session at Fairlop Raceway in Essex, its really quite close to the London area if anyone fancies a trip to see a good technical dirt track you should check it out. Nice and friendly too.

The last shot is after 2 hours of racing on a dusty track - the glow effect still looks really cool - Amazing! :wub

:lol::lol::thumbsup: THANK YOU for the review fella and yes I'm not the quickest, Dave has been very patient about this which I really appreciated so thank you for the review and pictures. You forgot to say how much quicker you were, I think the shell should add at least 2 seconds to your lap :D

Schumacher Cat SX3

Way back post #80 I painted a Serpent shell for Badger5 on here. This is a new shell for him, we couldn't fit the eagle's onto this as they were just too small so I created a simplified version of that scheme for this Cat SX3 with similar colours but I swapped out the standard red for a fluoro one.
