I was going to join bury rc club but is it worth it if the track keeps getting trashed ?

Also could you not get some help from comunity bobbies ino they cant do much but may help keep an eye on who is to blame.

If you live in Wigan, you've seen worse!

The new track and the old track are separated by about 20 feet! So far nobody has actually trashed the new track, and TBH they might never, but occasional damage has occurred to the old track. Over the last few years nothing that has actually prevented us racing though - just a bit of graffiti and a few side panels missing from the rostrum. Mostly its just empty cider bottles and food wrappers, and lads using our jumps on their BMX.
However, that was the old track with gaps in the astro so big you could lose a car in them. Now we have a shiny new track we'd rather it stayed that way for as long as possible. Whilst a giant spray painted cock on the main straight won't stop us racing (Buds might prefer that!), it will still be gutting when its brand new astro!

johnnygibbon 06-04-2011 04:28 PM

any more picture updates rog im loving your panaramic progress shots . and whats happening with these jumps ....

themyster 06-04-2011 08:40 PM

The problem is everywhere and all we want to do is race, join bury, the damage that happened to the old track happened over a long period of time and we might be lucky and vandals stay away....

tisher 06-04-2011 08:52 PM

why is everyone slagging off the Kids! at the end of the day nothing has been done to the track yet and any type of bmx / running /skate /bowling/rc track built on a council/public place is always going to have problems with kids vandals dogs grannys etc so stop bitching about stuff thats not happened yet and lets see more of the pics of what hopefully going to be an awesome track:thumbsup:

Si Coe 06-04-2011 10:29 PM

Actually something has happened - someone set fire to some of the old astro that had been lifted when the previous track was dismantled and was going to be re-used
Now in the end they actually did us a favor because now we have nice new astro on the whole track instead of some old / some new, but they didn't know that! And whilst the council has graciously given us this new astro, don't expect them to be so generous if someone burns a hole in the new stuff.
Which is why people are worried - we are going to have the newest and best track in the country and we want to keep it that way!

The race controller 06-04-2011 11:40 PM

No new pics

I went down today, Wednesday, No change from the last picture.
The rain has really stopped play.

captainlip 07-04-2011 12:06 AM

If you have anything new built in a public park thats not for public use and only have a 4 foot fence on it your just asking for trouble you need at least a 10 foot fence to have half a chance. If you put signs up cctv etc you will never stop it.
Me and Vaughn Skate on the local skate park that was built on our local park most saturday mornings and the amount of times we Have had to clean it up put out fires etc after the kids on a friday night is just stupid
and we live in a nice area

There's normally a giant cock on the straight and that's you when your marshalling !!!

I agree with this, if the council would fund it a palisade type security fence probably would be sufficient deterrent (the ones that are sharp on the top), although it may look like a prison. I think the fence they have round the footy area is just a chainlink type and they are easier to climb. At least if it is more difficult to get over they might think twice if they don't have a potential escape route, a bit like rats, don't like being trapped.

Stu 07-04-2011 08:12 PM

Southport club have had their fair share of massive cock style track graffiti over the years, and them lads are dead posh over there.

It's not just Bury, it's just kids.

Whiskers 09-04-2011 02:05 PM

I think they have forgotten about us

Just got back from the track today and I can see no improvement over the past week. What's going on?

captainlip 09-04-2011 03:46 PM

The race controller 12-04-2011 03:52 PM

Bradley@BMM 12-04-2011 05:54 PM

Yeh, I went yesterday and there was no work going on apart from the building next to it. Does that belong to the club?

Dry day today.

Work started again today. Sticking/welding the astro together.
Lots of sand to be brushed in if anyone wants to help. (bring your own brush and only brush the area that has been stuck)

Bradley@BMM 19-04-2011 11:47 AM

Is there a due date for finishing?

can I ask if the astro is going to be pinned down as well? joining the seams and piling loads of sand wont keep it down completely, I know I installed astro turf for residential and buinsess use for 2 years.

Stotty 19-04-2011 06:14 PM

Good to see some progress :D
Hopfully wit the nice weather it should help get the track finished.

Rostrum

Due to a misunderstanding with the council/contractor, we need to sort out our own rostrum.
Any ideas ?
I'm getting a couple of quotes from a gate maker and a scaffolder but if we can do it ourselves we'll get exactly what we want.

njc11 20-04-2011 01:52 PM

Looking good!!

Have those kids pulled all the fenceing down??

I liked the idea of stu's the shipping container with a drop front least when locked up its not another attraction for the kids to hang out on. Or are the two containers in the pics owned by the club? if they are just put a hand rail round the top of one and have a ladder that can be removed at the end the race meet so nobody can climb up most probably the cheapest option

Stotty 20-04-2011 07:42 PM

Looking good. Is the club having a tidy up day to help get things sorted ?
I would be happy to come help :D

Yes, I can have a look at it if you want me too. Fabrication is my job, I can get the materials at cost and would obviously help you guys out for free:wub
Only issue for me would be transport. I have a van but some of the fabrication may be too large to transport that way.

BillyB 21-04-2011 07:13 AM
