xls

is anyone using an alternative to the wire wing mount? Not a massive fan of the wire mount

stuey 06-10-2017 07:11 PM

I have the carbon rear shock mount with the moulded wing mount set. I enlarged the original holes in the wing from when it had the wire mount, and it could do with moving back a bit imo.

So built the XLS and all the electrics are in and I’m just waiting on the body back from being painted. I have noticed the that the steering seems a bit flimsy with the two screws from the top deck wiggling about so my question is are there any upgrades for this or mods people did back in the day ?
Cheers
Stu.

PoGdiN 07-10-2017 09:16 PM

I found that straight out of the box I couldn't tighten up the screws fully so the screws were "wiggling", if I did then it just locked the steering up. I had to shave a bit off the plastic parts so I could tighten the screws up fully and its been fine since.

Same here.

tahustvedt 08-10-2017 10:12 AM

I also shaved the plastic to let me tighten the screws.

Stu Dixon 08-10-2017 12:21 PM

I will give that a go later, thanks for the advise

Circlip pliers - Does anyone have a recommended size for the circlips in this kit?

fidspeed 27-11-2017 08:28 PM

smallest you can find

think Schumacher sell "core" branded ones worth checking out

I have run an 8.5 sp motor with no issues , but I have gone down to a 13.5 now because of the lack of weight and I want it to feel more like an older light buggy rather than a fat heavy power full new one if you see what I mean.

My Procat runs a 8.5t Speed Passion with XLS upgrade kit, seems OK.

fidspeed 29-11-2017 05:47 PM

Ran 10.5 at worksop last weekend without upgrade tranny no issues front belt does slacken off a bit
maybe need to tighten screws a bit more

dave

oldenoughtoknowbetter 29-11-2017 06:59 PM

Im running a 10t brushless with standard transmission. No problems at all. Amazingly strong buggy. Only upgrades on mine are tm4 shocks, schumacher wing mount and moulded wing

oldenoughtoknowbetter 29-11-2017 07:01 PM

can anybody recommend tyres for wet short astro?

fidspeed 29-11-2017 09:23 PM

Agreed I have changed rear shock mount to an sx3 one and fitted latest version wing mounts
have upgrade tranny kit yet to fit

oldenoughtoknowbetter 29-11-2017 09:41 PM

The only weak points ive noticed are the wire wing mount and kit wing. My xls has had quite a bit of use now. Its still looking amazing though

Silver Schumacher darts on the rear should work, with either dart fronts or cut staggers. Ballistic buggy green mini spikes are also an option.

Yeah Facebook is taking over a bit I can see it's a lot easier to add pics and stuff but you can't reference stuff on there like you can here. I'll have a couple of projects to put some pics up when I get chance to work on them

oldenoughtoknowbetter 20-01-2018 09:24 PM

has anybody heard if schumacher have got any plans to re release any of their other iconic buggies?

Hopefully I may achieve my teenage dream to eventually race a topcat.
Fingers crossed!!!

xfactor 21-01-2018 01:43 PM

My first real RC race buggy was the Top Cat. Cost £74.99 back then. The first run of them had a slight problem with the front keep dropping down. Schumacher changed something on the front which sorted it.

Then the cougar came out and Schumacher did a front cougar conversion for £29.99 which converted the front to upright shocks.

Loved both to be honest............

oldenoughtoknowbetter 21-01-2018 03:00 PM

Did schumacher have much success race wise with any of their early 2wd buggies? I know the cats were hugely successful but dont know much about the early 2wd cars

oldenoughtoknowbetter 21-01-2018 03:01 PM

id love a re re of the works cougar with all of that lovely anodising.

Wolvie 21-01-2018 03:32 PM
