That's what I got it to be as one of the units in the corner of Gibb street by the bridge.

You'll all be able to see it in 10 hours time ;)
See you all there.

Dazzler 27-01-2012 10:19 PM

I would say your browser. But it is the smaller unit to the side of 1.

racingben 28-01-2012 07:17 AM

Last minute cancellation for me. Wife's not well and not fair to leave her to cope with a 3 year old still recovering from chicken pox.

Gregors 28-01-2012 11:52 AM

Overslept abit to much gutted

john333 28-01-2012 09:16 PM

Well done Stu! the 3 of us from Mansfield really enjoyed today

Thought the track worked well, and the organisation was spot on

Will definitely come again if and when you do another

Cheers, John

Hi Stuart

I would just like to thank you personally for such an amazing event.

You jumped in at the deep end and put on an 80+ person event for not one but three class's

1/10 2wd and 4wd
1/16 4wd

The track layout was great and only needed minor adjustments through the day.
It was also great to have the micros and 1/10 boys side by side.

I really hope you put more events on through year as you really put you heart into everything you do with RC.

The only downside was you promised the heat sheets in 8mins
And you over run by 33sec lol :-)

Catch up with you soon

Cheers

Jason A

Firstly thank you to Stuart and and his crew for today. A very very relaxed days racing.

For your first attempt at putting a race day on I take my hat off to you. For not only having the balls to get stuck in where some dare to tread but to run a chilled days that was utter fun with no agro or attitude that can surround the one day events.

Also not forgetting how much money you must have shelled out in the first place. Well done for a great day, for putting you money where your mouth was so to speak and to already be looking ahead at making the next event better. Oscar and I Drove 125 miles each way and wouldn't hesitate to do it again for the next one. Cracking day even if I did only finish 2 races all day and gone through a couple of packs of wishbones.

freddie 28-01-2012 10:26 PM

well said chef !!!! very chilled out !!!!:thumbsup:

The Chef 28-01-2012 10:52 PM

Also would like to note that is was really good to race on a Saturday, as I can now look forward to a lie in opposed to a long drive before work and a tired child in the morning fighting to get up for school.

hazeandfizz 29-01-2012 12:19 AM

Good job today guys, nice relaxed event and a super strong field in 2WD 1/10th.

Running my Cougar in the skate park was the best thing ever.

Thanks,
James.

Urban X - The Cool Down

So, here we are guys after the first ever Urban X...

Firstly I would like to express my sincere thanks to every racer who trusted my concept, came to race at my first meeting, and also made the day a wonderful exhibition of the true spirit and meaning of our wonderful sport. All of you are a real credit to the scene.

The amazing thing about the experience we all shared today was that less than 2 years ago I was away from the sport. This break from racing lasted nearly 16 years, and I am so very grateful for the support and guidance I have had to help me settle back in to the community.

Creating and running your own race meeting whether at club level or larger scale is a really character building experience, I salute every single race organiser and club chairman across our scene who goes through this experience that I have had over the last 2 months.

Urban X would not exist in concept nor reality if it wasn't for the people who have made the first event such a great experience. I asked many many people for feedback, and ALL points have been humbly noted and will be acted upon immediately to further enhance my upcoming plans for what may be Urban X Part 2:

The following points of very important feedback are planned for revision....

Bigger track space that will accommodate all classes more comfortably and ultimately give fun and exciting racing for all attendees.

Greater track technicalities and challenges.

Deeper consideration for the nature of mixed ability heats and how all drivers can compete within races that suit their ability level.

I would like to offer my public and heartfelt thanks to the following people, without whom, Urban X would not have been born or taken it's first tentative steps into the off-road culture:

Miles, Steve & Tom for their event planning and management assistance

Darren Johnson, Dave Williams, Stuart Macdonald, Tony Bishop, Phil Sleigh, Andy Mountford, Andy Funge, & Steve Haines for their amazing help during today, and also making me feel that I am part of a really inspirational race club. I was over the moon to be asked to sit on your club committee guys.

Jimmy and Vicky Storey for bringing me into the oOple family of staff and trusting my judgment and journalism skills.

Robin Schumacher, Tony Evdoka, Kev Lee & Simon Osbourne for their experience, mentoring and product support.

Danny Fisher & The Custard Factory for a brilliant venue.

Andy Jones for his advice and knowledge.

My family for putting up with living in an RC dominated environment for the last few years.

Carl Arrowsmith for his support and professional skills with race control and timing gear.

Dan Holmes and Joe Cockill for bringing that Pitside retail magic to our event.

Rob Chalmers and Simon Choc for their photography and film skills during the event.

and last but not least....every single person that raced around the track that I built from scratch....it will get bigger and better very soon guys.

As I sit and type this post I realise that my passion and commitment to RC is vastly overshadowed by my passion and inspiration for people....you all made this possible, and I thank you all for helping me create Urban X.

So, deep breath, who's up for Urban X Part 2 folks?...I have a feeling that it won't be long before we all go for it once again

Racing is the one thing that will always strip away the constraints we are all dogged by in this crazy modern world...and ultimately bring hundreds of like-minded people together to enjoy a bit of exciting competition, learn new skills, meet new people & see new places....long may it continue.

Peace...Stuart 'Style One' Styles

well done ,good meeting stu. book me in for round 2 :)

Antagl 29-01-2012 08:50 AM

First thing i would like to say Stu is well done to you and all who contributed to put this event on!.

It takes massive effort and commitment to do what you have done!

You have already know from the feedback what needs to be changed, so enough said, but one thing i wud say is don't forgot the kids who are learning the hobby! They are the future of our chosen hobby and for me the track had sufficient difficulty. How many drivers of all levels did'nt make a mistake? Not many.

You had some great drivers there who will make most tracks look easy. A big plus at any meeting. They set the standard for all racers.

Once again, well done. Is just what the West Mids needs, it could grow to add to some of the great events we have round the country.

Teaboy 29-01-2012 09:03 AM

A big thanks to Stu and everyone that made the day a fantastic race day.

All of us from South Wales had a great day out and will be back for the next one.

Cheers

Rich

There was lots of filming going on by Stu's mate including on-car footage, so guessing that's being edited for release.

Darren Bloomfield won 2WD, Phil Sleigh won micro with a ballistic missile of a car!, think Phil also won 4WD but not 100% as had to leave before the end

john333 29-01-2012 04:39 PM

By the way, loved the rolling starts in the heats, it was cool trying to time your start with a clear track in front of you......like starting an F1 qualifying lap!

arransmith27 29-01-2012 05:45 PM

Congrats on running a great meeting, a great achievement for you're first attempt

Will there be an urban x 2? if so then count me in :)

RobChalmers 29-01-2012 08:01 PM

Really looking forward to seeing how well the on-car video footage came out I Know it was fun shooting it - just so happy Go-Pros are built tough!

adey 30-01-2012 03:10 PM

i think alot of the 1/10th drivers felt that the track was just too small (me included). However, despite this, everbody seemed to really have enjoyed the day and would go back again. I myself thought the track was great to drive on despite its size and want to thank stu for organising it all. I cant imagine putting on a race meeting is easy and i think for his first meeting he did great. Please do another Stu !.

Very true, I was talking to Stu and did say the track looked tiny when we walked in........but, it was actually one of the nicest indoor tracks I've driven on in years  looks were definitely deceptive in this case :)

count the Mansfield crew in for the next one

Think you have hit the nail on the head, think everyone thought it was tight on first impression but can not remember there being any major crashes or instances, credit to racers etc as there was a mix of abilities through out the racing. Thought the general conversation around the pits was also first class and pleasant and nice to see people who you know the name but not the face

Many thanks

Muzzie 30-01-2012 06:55 PM

Stu,thanks for a great day, I've not been racing for long and this was my second outing away fom my club. Can't believe I won the group C 4wd final and to top that 2nd prise in the raffle. I needed some more tools as my car always seems to be in bits LOL.

When are the videos out?

racingdwarf 31-01-2012 04:37 PM

That looks good:thumbsup:. maybe quite small, but that can be more enjoyable as you can lern it a lot faster and realy enjoy your racing. as in a lot of cases with one off meetings you maybe only do 50 laps of the track all day,for me (as I'm a bit slow:blush:) that hardly gives me a chance to get the hang of it.let alone set the car up:lol:

chuckie stella 02-03-2012 10:42 AM

race/meeting report?

Hi Stu, was there ever a report released for your event?

Cheers,

Matt
