Unfortunately don't want to buy new gear for limited motor racing . Never mind.

What turn motor to get for buggy

Hi Chaps what turn of motor seems to be used in the buggys at tyne met i know there is no limit but what do most of you run 5.5/6.5/7.5 etc
just going to order a new motor for my buggy

Is there any pref to motor makes i should look at will be used with a lrp sxx speedo in a B44

Also does the small black MRT transponders work with the timing system or has it got to be the red amb type like i have in my 12th car

Gary

Hi Gary,
I've tried 5.5 and find the 7.5 easier to drive and just turn up the speedo a bit, wish I had bought a 6.5!
Is that Gary Shears by any chance??
Buggies will be back Monday, there was an outdoor event last Sunday hence the lack of people last week.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Chris, try an old stock motor, will only set you back about 15quid, or bring your buggy instead!

chrispattinson 29-07-2011 09:10 AM

Thanks Paul,

Ill have a think... and a lookout on ebay for a 13.5 motor.

I just recently returned to buggy racing after a 15+year break.
and I'd suggest you defiantly get yourself over to the club and take a look, I may even be there myself on monday.
also there is a big event happening next weekend 6th and 7th of August in Durham the details will be here on oople, look for the buggy GP thread in the north east section, and get yourself along to that for some good outdoor action

now for gear suggestions.

Car : I'd suggest you start with a 2wd in order to learn the ropes, the associated B4 is solid car and has great support and history, but there are other cars to consider that are also excellent. The Schumacher cougar is a british car built for british tracks. the losi 22 is a fairly new car but has the option of mid motor mounting which is preferable for british track racing however it may be a bit much for a beginner (as I'm finding)

Motor: a 10.5 sensored, brushless motor would be more than enough for you

Speed control : sensored brushless, with lipo cutoff. good offerings from speed passion, LRP and Orca. The orca qspark can be bought in a combo deal for around £140 new which is great value for money

Batteries : stick or saddle pack, I'd recomend saddle as it gives you the option of moving up to 4wd and using the same batteries.

Tires : Schumacher yellow compound, mini spikes with blue/medium inserts front and rear.

charger : you cant go wrong with the Core-R/C UAC40

Radio : its up to you which is more comfortable for you, stick or wheel radio but 2.4ghz spread spectrum is the way to go either way. also try to make sure and get a radio with a receiver, and if your looking to go into 4wd in the future I'd suggest a radio that has multiple model memory function. its also worth getting a ready that has good options like the end point adjustment for fine tuning.

Servo : the savox servo's are great and are a great price as well. depending on the buggy i'd suggest either the savox 1251 low profile or the savox 1257

Thats about it really, except the most important advice. dont be afraid to ask questions. I've found racers are a good friendly bunch that are always willing to help

beasty boys motorsport 29-07-2011 03:41 PM

i was thinking 2wd as its a bit cheaper but i thought most people at tynemet run only 4wd ??, as im new to all this most of what you have just said is mind boggling to me, i havent got a clue about all the bits you need....ask me to build you a rally car and im ok:lol:...hopefully i'll get over on monday night and see whats what

Ray Mac 29-07-2011 05:24 PM

You thought right about the Tynemet buggie lads using 4wd.
If you want you can check out some videos that are on a couple of earlier pages to give you an idea of what the track is like.
Thanks for enquireing about our club, I'm sure you'll be made welcome when you arrive on Monday.

The old man!:thumbsup::lol:

AfroP 29-07-2011 05:53 PM

I'll be there on Monday with a 2wd

My LRP SXX tc came today so thats now fitted its getting there.
It will be strange going from a high grip track on a sunday night to a low grip on a monday should be fun though.
Won't have the car ready for this monday but i'll still call in. I'll bring the car and you can give it a quick check if you don't mind

Cheers Gary:D

Ha ha. I knew you would be back Gary. My money says Jim won't be far behind. Just quick word to those discussing 2WD or 4WD. You're more than welcome to run either but on a wooden floor you want to be running 4WD all the way to be competitive especially if you're new to the sport. 2WD on polished wood is a real handful no matter how good you are!
Hope to see you all Monday with or without cars but preferably with!

gar 30-07-2011 10:28 PM

Hi Mark

Well i've just about got all the gear now give me about a week and i should be back.
I'll pop in on monday night at some point and sort out any club fees

Cheers Gary

Ps I think you may be right there my dad has been talking about b44's lol

You're welcome to come along with any motor you like Chris to see what you think of the venue and club.If you like it then you can think about whether to invest in a motor but we certainly won't stop you racing a fast motor once or twice to help you decide
Just we've always found 19T more than enough power for wooden floors so the limit on TC's makes things closer. To un-restrict would pretty much result in everyone having to buy a new motor and speedo just to keep up and would put tyre wear back up so it's a fair old cost to every driver.
Hope to see you pop along for a try sometime - see what you think

Mark

lazysurfer 02-08-2011 07:52 AM

Well 11 TC's and 6 buggies was a good turn out last night for this time of year with holidays and stuff. Nice to have 2 of the Seaham buggie lads join us, one for his first meeting at TyneMet and a second visit for the other. Hopefully see you both back. Also thanks to those who were there at 7 or just after for set up, a big improvement over recent weeks resulting in a much quicker track build. We had no less than 5 potential recruits watching last night, well 3 potential and 2 gurarnteed new drivers watching should I say as Gary Shears will be on the track in 2 weeks and despite insisting otherwise, my money still says Jim won't be far behind.
Was nice to see that last weeks driving tips had been listened to Mark and that marshalling seemed to have imoproved.
Hope to see you all next week

Cheers

beasty boys motorsport 02-08-2011 12:14 PM

enjoyed watching last night, nice friendly people, thanks to paul with the buggie for a bit more insight, those buggies need to jump tho:woot: be back in a couple of weeks, if i dont have anything by then i'll do a bit of marshalling

oh wish i was home so i could pop along and see how the experts do it:p

furball85 08-08-2011 10:36 PM

do you cater for m chassis style cars?

lazysurfer 09-08-2011 07:47 AM

Well guys another good turnout with 17 racers - not bad for the time of year with people away on holiday. Nice to see Chris Stewart finally join us for some “drift racing” ;-)
Hope you enjoyed it enough to come back Chris - the buggy final certainly looked like a good close race.
Grip seemed a bit down on the previous week but then the hall was a lot cooler so it would be.
Don’t forget we’re racing next Monday but will miss the following 2 - that’s NO RACING 22nd & 29th August
Also very strangely its been mentioned that we could run one less round of racing each week as some people are finding it stressfull being pushed to get their cars ready!!!!
Not as stressfull as it is for me trying to get you to get your cars ready!!!
I certainly don’t want to loose a round and I suspect most people don’t - correct me if I’m wrong.
However if anyone does want to miss a round please feel free to sit one out and relax for a few minutes - thoughts on this anyone?

See you all next week

Not totally sure what you mean by M chassis but if it's electric and 1/10th scale bring it along.

LOSE A ROUND OF RACING:p
thats like going for a round of golf and only playing 15 holes, i havnt been racing long but i enjoy the 5 rounds of driving and if the club is paying for the hall for 3 hours and it takes all the effort to set the track up and put it away at the end of the night, shoudnt we try to get as much racing out of the night as possible, i hope more racers feel the same way cos it would be a shame to lose a round of racing:thumbdown:

M chassis is a 1/10th mini chassis by tamiya, but there are also other company now doing mini class racing, think car sizes like a suzuki swift, Mini, fiesta...................1/10th scale size but shorter wheel base and smaller bodies to fit, cheaper form of racing :thumbsup::thumbsup:

5 rounds for me Mark:thumbsup:
i take it it's the buggies that are getting stressed trying to get their cars ready- probably because they break something every heat:lol::lol:
only joking buggy lads- if you need to do repairs ask someone to cover your marshalling to get some extra time:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Bring it along. We don't have a seperate class but a couple pf guys have ran them before. You won't be competitive with the top 4WD heat but hopefully will get some close racing with some of the lads in the second heat.

What tyres would you use ?
we run 20mm schumacher mini pins
, would these fit your chassis?

lazysurfer 16-08-2011 07:44 AM

Well 14 turned up last night, 12tc’s and 2 buggies with Gary Shears making his return to racing eventually and posting some good times. I expect Jim to join him in 3 weeks.
Close racing in heat 2 and the B final as well with Peter Anderson giving Mal a hard time for most of the night.
Gone back to booking people in as they arrive but will be checking my list against Gary’s paid list before racing starts - this lets us get started on track earlier.
Don’t forget no racing for the next 2 weeks, that’s 22nd and 29th - back on the 5th September.
See you all back then.
