:)I'm not sure whether to hold off for the moment or not as rumour control say's Losi are developing their own 1/8th electric vehicles. If however they're someway off, more than likely, I'll go with the conversion.
As the Neu motors seem pretty hard to come by has anyone experience of the Hacker brushless motors, how do they compare on quality & price?:)

Purely from an outsiders point of few (well an outsider in as much as I've only just come back into RC) I'd jump at the chance to do this class if it became big enough.

I love the 10th scale off road but the little experience of rallycross I have had was great, but the noise, oily mess etc is a little bit off putting. I was looking for something that was a little different to the already noisey and oily Motocross so for me and i'm sure many others 8th scale electric would be great fun.

I'm certainly going to be watching this development with interest and if it takes off i'll be putting my orders in.

:)Well the Losi electric 1/8ths seem to be a bit of way off so I've got a Tekno V3 Losi 8T conversion coming, Neu 1515 -1Y Hi Amp motor, Flightpower lipo's and waiting on the Castle Creation Mamba Monster Max V.2 esc. All going into a new Losi 8T RR:)

Yep - waiting for a Mamba monster myself but there seem to be a few worrying stories over on RCTech - may have to have a bash with a Tekin R1 or Mamba Max for the 4cell Im working on....

give the Novak HV Pro a go, I noticed they were no. 1 and 2 best sellers on the amainhobbies website :).

gramey 05-08-2008 11:01 PM

used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure!! I was waiting for the CC Monster esc and then found out it's not waterproof which with our weather is a bit of a bummer so I'm looking at going with the MGM ComPro 16018.
The esc is the only thing thats holding things up.

Answer-RC-Pete 06-08-2008 08:22 AM

Is the compro actually waterproof?

In terms of the Novak stuff I prefer around 2000kv for 4cell so nothing that suited for me.
What have you been running yours on - 3 cell 11.1v?

There are going to be an awful lot more suitable speedos available soon as I know at least 3 companies that are working on them.

As soon as the mamba monster has been produced any store that stocks Trakpower/FlightPower will be able to get it in for you.:)

I don't why Novak have gone down the high K/V route. I've been running 14 NiMH cells on a HV4.5 - so absolutely loads of revs - in an E-Zilla. The top speed is very high. I have only used it for bashing, so probably haven't really stressed the ESC, although I have lapped a track without any thermal issues. As Novak says the HV4.5 isn't suitable for racing. But I would have thought the 5.5 / 6.5 would be pretty good with appropriate gearing, although they are both way over your target of 2000K/V. Why are you thinking 2000? Perhaps this would offer smoother bottom end power delivery than a low geared high rpm set up...

If using the Novak motors, then Novak supply their own heatsink motor mount that bolts to the original engine mounting slots via an (included) adaptor plate.

If you want to use Neu or MTroniks motors or whatever, then you are best buying a proper motor mount for your car from someone like Mike at RC Monster.. That way, you can mount the Novak motors too! (and the look bling) :)

Answer-RC-Pete 07-08-2008 08:10 AM

In terms of motor mount the vast majority are a replacement for the centre diff mount on one side - basically extends out to allow the motor to mount. This is how the RC Monster and various conversions are done as well as the Caster. The only diference in layout tends to be that some have the motor to the rear of the chassis and some to the front to give more room for the cells.

The Novak and Tekno systems use a motor holder that clamps the moptor and attatches to the chassis in the same manner that a nitro mill would do.

Mark you seem to have the ear of Trackpower - could you check if they are planning to bring in the CC Monster Max and Monster Max Combo(with motors)
....and why dont they bring the Mamba Max esc in on its own...
at the mo there is no choice but to bring them from the US or buy the combo and flog the motor..

Mark, i would recommend the conversion kits that Dan produces across at RC Product Designs, info here http://www.rcproductdesigns.com/E777.htm

It would cost less than £100.00 for the conversion kit, then you just need to add the electrics.
