Do we need shock protectors if the shocks are behind the tower it seem silly to use a piece of plastic to protect the Astro from a piece of plastic.

Shock protectors are only needed on the front where shocks tend to be on the front of the towers.
Rear shock protectors are nice to have but not 100% necessary.
