I have been running the car outdoors for a couple of weeks now... Car seems nice and quick. I just wondered if anyone else had been running it outdoors, (predominately grass astro tracks) and what was their thoughts, set ups??

Outdoor Set-Up : Dirt track

Does anybody including the team drivers have a recommended base set-up for the car on a dirt track (not clay!). The tracks here are typically dirt tracks with medium to low traction in different parts of the track.

I will start with the Simon Moss set-up from the Euros and go from there? Is this recommended?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Thanks again and awesome car, by the way.

Any questions feel free to ask.

I think that is it. I am going to try longer ball studs all round, (on shocks) to give the car more droop, next time I race. Also 35wt front oil.

I used this at Stotfold at the weekend.. It was actually just dry enough to get away with yellows.

Tell me what you think.

nickhudson 02-02-2009 02:52 PM

thanks for that. it's given me something to think about.

quick questions :-

why the extra wide front track ? (3mm washers)
was the front hub cut flat ?
how thick was the rear roll bar ?
did you try it with the standard width (44mm ?) front link bracket ?

cheers

nick

quick questions :-
why the extra wide front track ? (3mm washers) My thoughts on this was to make the car as wide as possible, someone can correct me if I am wrong here but the wider the more stable.
was the front hub cut flat ? Yes
how thick was the rear roll bar ? Thin'est
did you try it with the standard width (44mm ?) front link bracket ? Yes, I thought the narrower front link bracket gave the front end a more consistant feel, when turning in and through the corner. With the std bracket on the car had a lot of initial turn in...

Please note I am currently using NiMh, not LiPo.

cheers

nick

I have added my answers.. Hope this helps. Why how have you been runing the car...

nickhudson 02-02-2009 03:51 PM

thanks again - not run the car yet (only finished building it yesterday) but its all good background information when it comes to thrashing (crashing ) it around the coventry astro track.

PLEASE do copy it (to every detail) and let me know your thoughts.

After making small changes, and believing I had moved on from this, today i went back to it and ...... it was still the best!!! My best lap using this was identical to the round before, but the difference is that this setup is far easier to drive.

The only change I have kept is the medium rate front roll bar.

I was just wondering if anyone has any setups for indoor carpet high traction and outdoor clay tracks setups, besides the ones on the Schumacher site.

I just joined the Schumacher team and am racing out of Toronto, Canada.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks:thumbsup:

Chrislong 24-03-2009 12:43 PM

Mossy's setups are very good, have a look for his that he used in Italy, that'll be what id start with for clay.

For carpet, try mine above, its ace.

Mossy 24-03-2009 07:20 PM

For Carpet, use mine that is posted on the Schumacher website for the Petit RC Race as a starting point.

Thanks guys,

I tried Simon's Petit Rc setup with some Corally Tire Traction. The car was hooking up and was just great. I'll be using it more often. When the weather gets better, I'll be trying the Italy Euro setup for the clay.

t.o. rob 29-03-2009 11:19 PM

QUESTION?

Is there a softer tire than that of the yellow mini-pin?

tony12795 01-04-2009 02:02 PM

No, Yellow is the softest

frefon 01-04-2009 10:01 PM

Have you a good starting cat sx's set up for astro track ?

Sorry, a little off topic. I am looking for some XLS Cat parts. I'm trying to restore my cat from the 80's.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.
