I think it would be great for the hobby (10th) to have a meeting like the neo/proline that dxr get together. I don't think it would premote the hobby to joe public, but it would be great to get a GP type meeting on dirt indoors ( NO astro/ carpet:thumbsup:) and would be a nice change from the National circit.

I think meeting like this would pull a lot of racers like myself out of the woodwork. My local region is small, 20-25 people per regional. I would love to take part in bigger meetings but doing the nationals will cost far to mutch money in travel, I suspect more people are going to be in this situation in the comming year (fuel:thumbdown: credit crunch, inflation bla bla).We not only need to look at ways of getting new people into the hobby, we need to keep racers who are here now in the hobby two,

The following is a bit off subject for this thred but....
In a way nationals and regionals are killing club racing, as many people say they are so busy doing a national (££) and a regional in a month that they have no time for club racing.

PS These are only my thoughts on the subject of this thred, I enjoy racing at meetings like wrksop indoor etc and I am not putting the quality of there tracks or meetings down in any way. Before someone jumps on me:woot::o

Mr Dwarf, i totally agree with everything you said, but what i would like to add is, if there is a 1 off super GP on dirt, it has to have 1 control tyre. The last thing you want is to have to go through 5 different combinations of tyre in practice before you even think about car setup.

I would say my club, TRCC, haven't seen an increase in numbers due to the Cathrine Cookson Classic event. General public that viewed/watched the event would be more than likely join a club from the Tyne & Wear area

The control tire idea is good, particularly because you can sell the idea to a potential tire sponsor guaranteeing them a minimum turnover of so-and-so many tires per entrant and making them part of the booking-in fee.

I'm definately up for this. Maybe by involving some sort of charity element it would generate more media interest.

I would be willing to pay up to £50 to book in if it was a whole weekend of racing inc a set of control tyres and some cash going to a charity.

I have been thinking about this quite a lot this morning. I know woody wants to keep it a local affair so bury club will benefit from it. A few of us are thinking bigger. So i am going to make a different thread so that woody`s idea does not get mixed up with the mahoosive event
