Leaky shocks has been a problem I've had. It goes away if you can tighten the caps on tight enough, but that is really difficult as there is no way to grip the shock body to tighten. Other brands have a key or spanner to hold the shock body. I've managed to solve this with with a pair of pliers that i've wrapped the jaws in PVC tape. I can now hold and grip the shock body enough to be able to tighten and loosen the cap so it doesn't leak or damage the shock body.
I've also just today received a selection of 1mm thick orings in 10,11 and 12mm internal diameter to see which fit the best into the shock cap. it's an experiment really. |
as neal said i have done to diff outdrives, one front, one rear. Anyone else done one?
i put upstop limiters in so it doesnt hit the bottom aswell. what i did notice on both diff outdrives that they had snapped in the same place. im worried about when i go outdoors is it going to do it on high grip astro. other than that i love the car, its nicely balanced and very easy to drive martin :) |

Xray are soon releasing both aluminum shock caps (press release soon) and stronger outdrives (in production)
This is why I have never regretted going for the XB4 for the 2013 season.......now if they only could hurry up and release the XB9E  Bent |

Stronger outdrives might be a running change though.......... Bent |
im glad xray have been on top of all the small problems happening to some of us.
wonder how long before a xb4 2013 edition? |
Green slime and a diff rebuild sorted the leaky diff issue I had. Probably my building
The leaky shocks however.... One front and 1 rear seems to be just seeping oil from under the cap as soon as there is any compression in the shock. I had read that soaking the caps in hot water to soften them them screwing them in place helps. Will need to give this a bash and see how it goes |
had an initial issue with leaky shock tops on a customers car we built. did them up as tight as poss by hand and issue went away and hasnt returned since so think the thread just needs to be used/abused to tighten a touch and is fine.
also have just fitted the alloy shock caps to my own car and tested them at worksop on sunday. is a nice fibre/rubber style washer for inside the top of the shocktop so problem solved. fit and quality is typical xray (awsome) will soon be in stock with us ;) |
Heard people are breaking drive cups.
Also heard pin retainer around driveshafts is breaking. |

Ran my car in freezing conditions at the weekend, no breakages to report, the updated bulkhead seems to have solved the problem I was having. Fantastic job by Xray to get the fix out so quickly.
I did notice that the rear driveshafts have been rubbing on the outdrives so I have added another up travel limiter to the rear shocks. |

My rear diff finally gave in today.
Ran car at 5 or 6 meetings with no problems - now outdoors on grass - 3rd meeting in the gears started slipping. Obviously original gears were not up to the job as I'd built everything - including slipper correctly. Hoping new gears last a lot longer. Front is still ok on original gears. |
New kits have all the new bits included. I've done a ton of practice and racing on high grip astro and have been doing very large jumps with no damage or excessive wear to report.

seems I've now done a Hub bearing
despite oil'ing and re-oil'ing with Avid slip bearing oil I get a couple heats then the squeeky comes back. will have to replace it I think |
Few of my bearings are gritty now. That's expected with all bearings I've ever used. Now I've gotta get the seals off and blow them out, oil them and throw them back in.

I also blew an outdrive at RHR dirt (my own fault). The new upgraded v2 parts are a lot beefier so hopefully that fault is fixed now as well. |
Between me and a mate we have broken, 1 front hinge pin brace, 1 c-hub and 1 knuckle, also knackered a few hinge pin bushes, but not bad for around 100 packs between us :)
