Lol, the light did improve, first pics werent that light but the close ones (like the No1 car) i was getting around 1/1200s shutter which surprised me.

edit: i got one or two of the boxter but they were crap, my dad got a good one, will link it when he gets them up ;)

mole2k 18-11-2007 02:58 PM

I was using iso1600 1/125th for most of the day.

josh_smaxx 18-11-2007 03:01 PM

I got ISO200 :D and never above F4, mainly F3-F3.6

mole2k 18-11-2007 03:25 PM

The lighting was shocking, its amongst the worst i've ever photographed a rally in. One thing that i've noticed the rally photographers whose work with the wrc i usually admire have all taken crap shots at rally ireland.

josh_smaxx 18-11-2007 03:27 PM

My idea is to fill the memory card (or take a laptop and fill it a few times) and you will always get a few good pictures :D

mole2k 18-11-2007 04:40 PM

I generally take very few photos at events. I think i've filled my mem card twice in total.

josh_smaxx 18-11-2007 04:45 PM

http://www.flickr.com/photos/21060031@N08/2043893392/ there is a pic of that Boxter, looked quick.

I took very few pictures compared to what i normally take yesterday, i think me and my friend got over 1000 pictures at the TEESSIDE ACES this year.

Caryphotography 09-01-2008 05:01 AM

Hello everyone. I'm new to the Oople forums and I thought I would introduce myself. My name is John Cary and at one point I was a photo student and decided to go a different route. Though in the mean time I do shot quite a bit of R/C Stuff along with night photography as well. Recently I did some work for R/C Car Action in the form of shooting both studio and action for some up coming reviews in the magazine. The two cars are the new Team Associated B44 and the Kyosho Lazer SP. Let me know what you think and I will be posting stuff as often as I can.

Thanks,
John

And some more......

Some of my favourite photos from my trip to Alaska last summer. Taken with a 100 quid camera on landscape mode :p Original images are of course a much higher resolution.

Caryphotography.....

Wow dude those pictures are awesome, what kind of camera are you using? The colours are so rich and well balanced too! Do you photoshop them much or are they mostly all just good camera work?

Your pics dont look over-saturated like a lot of "photographers". (a.k.a people that take average pics and photoshop the shit out of them later!)

Awesome job, they look great, very professional looking!

jimmy 09-01-2008 08:27 AM

nice photos cary, like the night strobed stuff lots! :)

DF03, I think I take the most over saturated photos ever - but that's what I like. It's a camera setup thing rather than photoshop. Check out the photos from the Worlds I took with my D200, awesomely saturated! :)
If you look around the net, you'll see a lot of grey images from the event - not mine. Not to everyones taste maybe but I do it to appeal to myself and hopefully some others will like it also. :)

mole2k 09-01-2008 01:18 PM

Some great shots there john, I like the night stuff they are nice and unusual.

Im quite the opposite to jimmy my camera's setup to undersaturate to give even more dull pictures with higher contrast, but that again is my preference. Some people prefer high saturation some people prefer low. With my rally shots I often have a little bit more saturation than my usual shots as it helps the cars stand out a bit more but my most peoples standards they are still undersaturated.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2025/...0a92f4.jpg?v=0

jimmy 09-01-2008 01:32 PM

likewise I don't like too much contrast in my photos, mainly because it doesn't tend to go well with the bright colours & things can get a little too intense.

You can see my preference for bright warm colours all over this site, even the orangey-yellow borders on the forum.

mole2k 09-01-2008 01:37 PM

Yeah If i did this forum skin it probably would be muted colours with high contrast :P

High saturation and high contrast can be messy, low saturation and low contrast can be very grey and dull looking i find.

jimmy 09-01-2008 02:19 PM

If we joined forces we'd be able to produce really normal and boring images! :D

mole2k 09-01-2008 02:45 PM

Haha :p

Just starting to get into this photo taking stuff, here's a few i've taken recently

and some i took the other week on a very dull day at norc raceway

mole2k 09-01-2008 03:35 PM

Those look quite good turbo_brick, the first I would of shot with the composition showing more of the bridge in the background. to get a bit of a more balanced composition, a bit of light on the front of the car would of been nice too. A quick and dirty way of doing this is get a torch and during the exposure shine it over the darker area's of the car to try and paint them brighter.

mole2k 09-01-2008 03:40 PM

DP + an extra bit because 2 characters is too short a post :P

turbo_brick 09-01-2008 03:54 PM

a bit like this

Caryphotography 09-01-2008 04:23 PM

Thanks for the comments guys. I try an use photoshop as little as possible. I had teachers at photo school that drilled it into me that photos should be shot correctly the 1st time rather then using photoshop as your main source of operation.
The Flash shots were done with my studio lights and a Nikon SB-26 as a slave as a back ground filler.
I'm a big fan of color in images but Mole2k, those rally shots just above are awesome. I really like that undersaturated color look with high contrast.
the weapons in my arsenal are:
Digital
- Canon 20D
Film
-Canon EOS 1VHS
Lenses
70-200mm 2.8L
50mm 1.8

mole2k 09-01-2008 04:24 PM

Yeah I personally much prefer that last shot :)

The car is nicely balanced by the bridge in the background halo'ing it, I personally would prefer a lower angle but a lot of people prefer to see more of the car like in your shot. Great shot though :)

The best bit is it's one of mine and i didn't have to buy it just talked my mam into it.

I get to drive it while she works away in iraq for 10 months of the year. Only downside is the fuel bills, when i was out taking the pictures I used £20 worth of optimax in the grand sum of 45 miles.

P_B 10-01-2008 06:25 PM

Lots more quality stuff has been posted here since I last looked, this thread has provided lots of inspiration over the months.

My photographic life has only been marginally more active than my (nonexistent) racing life the last few months, but here are some of my better images of late:
