Hi BentKa.

In the UK we race outdoors in the summer (mainly astro / grass) so high grip - then over the winter we race indoors on various sports hall floor type surfaces - so low to lowish grip depending on venue.

Do you think the 'carpet' car would work on - for example a polished wooden sports hall floor with Schumacher yellow mini pins (usual tyre and surface for us)?
Or would it be a waste of time?

jonathan may 01-12-2015 08:17 PM

the yz2 is used on those surfaces that seems to work can see the xb2 being any different
but in a ball diff shocks on rear remove a few flex screw job done

andys 01-12-2015 08:34 PM

That's kind of what I thought as it looks like a YZ2 in terms of basic layout and position of motor etc.

Thing is - i'd prefer to buy one car - but which one for the UK - Dirt or Carpet spec...??

It looks like if you need the Diff / gearbox / gear box plate / towers etc to swop, then you talking a lot of cash for the parts - perhaps £100 or more, i'd rather buy the car that works well most of the time for the UK - which one?

About halfway through my build at the moment. It's going together well. Seems that it's been well thought out. Definitely some yz2 influence in design but not a copy which is what I initially thought it was.

dobber 01-12-2015 11:18 PM

I've just finished building mine. It went together perfectly. There are many tweeks throughout the car to generate or remove grip.
I'll be racing mine on astro all year round, with it being damp/wet I've put my shocks to the rear and running 4* toe. Looking forward to the weekend to race it, although I've got the wiring and spraying to do before then

I said it wouldnt be a copy mate haha, refined, and lets face it, how different can they really get on these low CG cars now?
Looking forward to seeing it Friday, may even blag you for a lap or three

Parts for moving the tower to the rear are also included in the kit.

The only "expensive" part you would need then is the ball diff.

Bent

in the manual, I'm sure it says "rear shocks to the front" for increased grip
Started the build last night

Hi Rich

What is your opinion on the build so far? a worthwhile investment?

Cheers

Richard Law 02-12-2015 01:36 PM

Error in manual on shock position for low-high grip
Build is great lee, much like the new xb4

Looking at the moving pictures showing front and back rear shocks it seems to mean shocks on the front for low grip and rear for high where obviously shocks on the front recommended for high grip and on the rear for low.

After a while I came to understand it means rear shocks on the back generate a higher level of traction than the front but as most of the text speaks about high or low grip traction it seems a bit counterintuitive (same for XB4).

When is the Dirt version due in the UK?

adey 03-12-2015 05:42 PM

I did have a diff seal missing in my kit. Reported it to mb models. I wanted to ask BentKa a bout any influence behind the design of new car. It's plainly incredibly similar to the yz2 and I just wondered if they set out to build a better yz2 or something like that or do they happen to just be similar ?.

Good luck

did yokomo not copy the Durango 210 with the caster bushings :p

NeilRalph77 03-12-2015 07:23 PM

And Durango prototyped the original 210 off the B4 front end, there's always going to be some amount of similarities especially when something works.

I wonder how the carpet edition car will perform on a track like Maritime which is mostly slippy floor with some carpert here and there.

Simon

Chris Larner 03-12-2015 08:49 PM

Maritime is the other way round. Mostly carpet and some slippy floor. The YZ2 and RB6 both work really well there so I'm sure the XB2 will work great. A friend of mine will be running his at the next round of the championship.

discostu 03-12-2015 09:04 PM

Maritime is all about the AE

Thanks for clarifying, I have never actually been, but meaning to go for some time. Just by the videos it looks slippy in most places.

simonrhart 03-12-2015 09:13 PM

What is AE?

Tried my xb2 tonight on carpet with the basic carpet setup. Far too soft on the rear for me but it was ok. Drove very much like my yz2. Hopefully can dial it in more for next week.

Cosworth 06-12-2015 11:57 AM

Bought one. Let's see how it goes compared to the Yz2. Happy days.

I'm hearing the manual is wrong and shows part of the steering set up being the wrong way around and you can't get full steering, is this right ?

If so, is it to do with the two arms be the upside down?

Ross , after reading on the xb2 fb page , the way i read it is the knuckles have to have the shamfered edge to the inside , as fitting the otherway the knuckle catches on the c-hub , tbh when building mine i found it hard to determine which way to fit them , as the picture isn't very clear .

Just got my xb2, looking for any tips or must do's. Racing indoors at the moment on Astro turf and carpet tracks.

Nice to be on board with xray, anyone else sick of hearing ... It's just a Yokomo!?
