Scott - Tamiya Freak

I think people will excuse a Lunchbox :)

Not a Tamiya, but I've wanted one of these for ages :) Clubman material? :D

I was wondering when a Lunchbox will make an appearance - defo clubman material!.

Does anybody here own a Grasshopper/Hornet/Frog? - would love to see one of those running

siddus74 19-11-2013 02:43 PM

Hmmm, are you sure people would not get uptight about it?

Scott.

Chris56 19-11-2013 02:46 PM

You didn't see the heap of junk I was running last week mate!

He makes a good point!

It needed help from marshals on tight turns as it didn't have enough steering lock!

yes yes, that problem should be sorted. There was a flange behind the gearbox I was meant to cut out - thats what you get for not reading instructions:lol:

On a plus note, it ran well on the faster sections:thumbsup:

cunawarit 19-11-2013 03:04 PM

It had plenty of acceleration, that's for sure.

siddus74 19-11-2013 03:06 PM

What was it you ran? lol

Scott.

Chris56 19-11-2013 03:09 PM

It was a Shamta Ray.

Basically an FF01 but with Manta Ray chassis, body, wishbones and buggy tyres.

If you have a look in the "FF01 meets Manta Ray" thread there are a couple of photos.

Will be running it again this friday

Dave Dodd 19-11-2013 03:20 PM

Might be an idea to discuss it with other clubman drivers :)
Some of the cars are a little more delicate than others.

cunawarit 19-11-2013 03:26 PM

That's a good point, the TL01 is surviving Clubman. But I stopped racing it with modern touring cars as it would break each and every time it came into contact with one.

LOL!

siddus74 19-11-2013 05:21 PM

I have a Mardave Mini with a silver can? (just needs radio)

Scott.

cunawarit 19-11-2013 05:26 PM

Yeah, remember those. My coz had one, a fibreglass rectangle with wheels. No suspension, no diff... Perfect!!! :woot:

Chris56 19-11-2013 05:31 PM

I wouldn't mind getting my mitts on this:

cunawarit 19-11-2013 05:37 PM

I'm starting to get the sense that this could turn into a my car is crappier than yours competition.

I do like that though! Mardave made 3 wheelers too. They can't be much slower round the track than the FWD buggy was ;)

I saw one going around Ardent once. They also look really cool with a Caterham shell.

Don't judge the Shamta Ray until I've had chance to test the new steering, its just doing the opposite of what the TL01 did :p:p

The Doctor 19-11-2013 07:19 PM

Chris, when I looked last Friday, the Shamta Ray was a 3-wheeler... :p

Honestly I think "Shambles" is becoming too generous though. Captain Chaos more like (have you booked in for this week yet...:woot:??)

hmm it was less of a problem when I ditched the SCT whells in favour of some ballistic greens. The car does have a lack of droop but I can't give it any more without using softer springs, which I don't want to do because the back end is quite grippy.

I have already pre-booked but under my real name. If I can't get the car to work this week then I have to become "Captain Chaos". Here is an image of said guy - he does look a bit like Dave though:

Haha... yeah, that used to turn by itself everywhere ;)

PS: I like the Captain Chaos outfit, wearing it?

siddus74 20-11-2013 12:37 AM

Just done a really quick paint job on the Mardave Mini body... Call mew mr runny :-( and robbed my bestest servo from my buggy ... So the Mardave is on the cards.

Trued the foam donuts down to size as well.

No diff, no suspension no bother.

Ill post a picture tomorrow night.

Even with a silver can it is near 30mph!

Scott

Impressive, I wouldn't be too shocked if you beat us all.

Chris56 20-11-2013 10:30 AM

Can't wait to see this. Are you running 2s or 1s?

siddus74 20-11-2013 12:16 PM

2S 27T Brushed ..

Have a bit of fun with it I say ... Lunchbox Yellow Mardave for Friday at Westbridgeford :D

Notice the "Euro Style rims" on picture no.3 lol

As per Facebook, it looks great :) I can't wait to see how fast it goes.

The Doctor 20-11-2013 07:29 PM

Oh yes I am liking that!

Dave Dodd 20-11-2013 08:29 PM

does look good :D

siddus74 20-11-2013 10:19 PM

Done some maintenance on the 6 wheeler - new Deans connector, de-fuzz and lube the bearings and motor but more importantly - Operation "Hi Vis" before I completely wreck the body ....

Im feeling the Mardave and 6 wheeler Friday now .. :eh?:

Bright neon colours FTW. That's why so many RC colour schemes look like they were designed by Mr Motivator ;)

I say no to racing in spandex ... :woot:

Scott.

cunawarit 21-11-2013 09:01 AM

I fully agree!!!

Since we are posting pics of changes to cars, I got rid of the extra large bumpers and made a couple of changes to try and get rid of a little understeer...

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4497a269.jpg

PS: I know it is only a lowly TL01... But to my eyes it is a thing of beauty :wub

siddus74 21-11-2013 10:25 AM

It looks "ultra clean" and very well kept ...:wub

Disc wheels on a Tamiya though? Premounts are cheaper though :(

What compound are they?

Scott.

cunawarit 21-11-2013 10:35 AM

I'm a little obsessive compulsive when it comes to cleaning RCs after use.

yeah, dished wheels with Sorex 28s. It isn't scale, or Tamiya cool. But performs well :) I could paint the wheels silver and pretend they are Moon Discs ;)

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps763d9db6.jpg

I'd need a suitable shell though....

siddus74 21-11-2013 10:41 AM

I have an old NAS Car body some where!!! lol

Scott.

cunawarit 21-11-2013 10:45 AM

NASCAR + Moon Eyes... hehe :) Land speed NASCAR! :D

I need 3S + Castle ;)
