Nice flying. Ordered a syma myself, any idea where I can purchase a second lipo?

Cheers

Should be at YORCC on the 25th of you boys fancy it?

Hi Col.

Glad to hear its looking promising.

Please post the KK settings once you get it sorted - mine is 'en-route' :)

Here you go pal, real good fun, it will even carry the small 720p cameras. They can be bought on same site for around 7 quid!

Lipo's also available here too. The 550mah ones from the V949's also fit and come in at 5 for under a tenner.

That was the mistake that I made - I copied settings from another quad of the same frame, but with different motors and speedo. It was horrendous!
It's trial and error I'm afraid. With room for improvement mine are very close to the ones in the first post of this thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1675613. It's still not right, but with limited time and no real space it's hard to get it right!

GrahamH7060 17-05-2013 06:24 PM

Just watched Danny's video of the little Syma quad , it's really cool and great flying btw !

Was wondering ( and please forgive my ignorance ) if its possible to do those flips and things and loops with a DJI phantom ? If so , what's the stick movements ??

I've recently got the phantom but only flew it 3 times so far due to time !

One more question , I've just bought a hero 3 black edition camera , the mount that comes with the phantom is only suitable with the hero 2 and is too large for the 3 , and when I use the case that comes with the camera I can only mount it upside down !
So , is it possible to correct the inverted picture when I load the video onto my computer ? I haven't even tried the camera yet so I'm totally unsure !

As I said , I'm new to quads and cameras so I'd appreciate all the help I can get!

Thanks in advance

Graham

Danny Harrison 17-05-2013 06:44 PM

Dont know about the mounts, but you could certainly invert the picture on a pc.

HELP !!!!

Package 1 arrived today - and some how I got these motors with a full length shaft and not the short (no shaft) versions I was expecting.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=31202

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...alog/18150.jpg

Will they be ok - if so which side mounts to the Quads arm !!
I thought the adapter thing screwed onto it for the prop, so based on my crappy logic, this would mean that the motor shaft would be pointing down and not used as such, just poking through the arm of the quad... Is this right :(

andys 17-05-2013 07:22 PM

This is what i've got :

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15062770/motor.jpg

I assume the motor will go this way around with the mount thing for the prop screwed on with the 3 screws that screw it to the motor?

Then - what do i need / buy for the colet thing to go on top - as i'll be left with a thread / bolt as it stands.... confused...

andys 18-05-2013 05:34 PM

I'm pressing on with the build.
I think The motors will be ok - just the shaft protrudes through the frame - no biggy.

Space is though tight on the 330 frame - so I bought one of these today:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...alog/36674.jpg

Hopefully it will make things tidier and easier :)

Build in progress - 2nd shipment from US is en route now :)

I love watching your vids, Neal.
It's quite interesting to watch you go from hovering at head height to throwing it around as your confidence grows!

On a personal note I've finally got the settings for my kk2 board sorted - it's now stable and responsive with no oscillation or WOD (wobble of death) at all. Only downside now is that I find I didn't order enough battery's...

andys 19-05-2013 10:11 PM

My build is on hold because :

1-Tx and a few other bits are en route.

2-Hobby King UK sent me 3 motors that I ordered and the 4th that is a different size / spec :(

Bugger....

Thanks Col, glad you like them.
Yes I'm a bit more confident now after this weekend at RHR. Seeing James fly mine made me dare to open it up and throw it round. The wide open space helped, i'll go find some fields locally now, with nothing to hit.

James said the mine was slower (than his quad), but the latest naza software update reduces the max-tilt angle in GPS mode, and i'm running different props. its fact enough (for now) and i'll try some upgraded graupner props when i see them for sale.

Good news on your setup. Can't wait to see it fly. I'm at a wedding next sat, so won't be at this coming meeting at York

bummer Andy :-(

can you source an alternative elsewhere?

Col 19-05-2013 11:07 PM

I've a couple of queries...

How are your battery's secured to the quad? Are these used?
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=12985
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...13A-02303A.jpg

The other one will resurface in my mind soon:eh?:

Col 19-05-2013 11:11 PM

It's resurfaced.
Are you still using the 808#16? How is it attached - velcro?

neallewis 19-05-2013 11:13 PM

Yes, one similar to that, plus some sticky Velcro on each pack, lining up with a 2" piece on the quad. I didn't feel the strap alone was enough.

Yup, 808 #16 v2 D lens (wide angle) Velcroed to the frame. Its not perfect, but doing me fine until I have learned to fly well enough to risk the gopro, and I buy a gimbal.

Velcro strap has hook one side, loop the other. its through the topdeck and looked over itself to secure. I felt the pack would slip out, so i stuck a 2" piece of velcro on the topdeck, and some loop on the packs to line up. it stays put now.

Col 20-05-2013 11:27 AM

mine are essentially the same, except...

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps27d10e35.jpg

Unless I twist the strap, it is fluffy side to fluffy side. Or am I too stupid to work it out?

Col - How the hell did you ever get this thing to fly when you can't work out the velcro strap :)

Don't put it through the loop and try put it back on itself, you'll lave loop to loop. move the position so you can pass it through, then tighten it down on the hook side.

Does this picture help?

Col, this is the reputable ebay seller of the various 808 keychain cameras:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/eletoponline365

They are well described and you get the exact version you order.

Mine is the 808 #16 v2 D Lens.

More info about them here: http://www.chucklohr.com/808/C16/

I'm very happy with mine considering its £28 delivered from china. Came in under 10 days as well.

Your pride and joy

So what are you boys doing to minimise a fly away ?

Reading about lots of tears from flyaways on variuos forums with some never found

Solutions seem to be a sticky label with contact details or a gps tracker !

Been playing today with a £40 personal gps tracker off the bay, loaded with a payg sim card on same network as my mobile.

Can get co-ordinates or google map link with a text message command

Seems to do what it says on the tin :)

Hopefully try some long range FPV at the weekend

It's always the little things! Can you believe I've been racing these toy cars for nearly 7-8 years (this time) and have never built one?

Already got one, just wondered how it was secured. I've always used velcro in the past with pretty good results, but this thing pulls much higher G's than a fixed pitch heli or miniquad.

I've not yet had a flyaway!

Actually I did with the v949, but I found it looking in the area i thought it went down, and revved up the props to make a noise, then located it from the sound.

what GPS tracker are you using? Link?

Ah cool. yes velcro works fine for me. i made the error of putting a rubber band on it, but it transferred all the vibrations to the camera. velcro seems to a good job of reducing the prop vibrations

I've had a DJI Phantom for a while now - using a GoPro Hero 3 HD Black.

Awesome.

They just brought out a plug & play FPV kit for it too - better start saving!

try pedal board velcro, much stronger than ordinary velcro ;)

A few more back yard flights under my belt now and still loving the kk2!

Andy - USBasp flash tool is going in the post tonight (2nd class - the only stamps I have!)

There are plenty of "how to's" out there, but this is the one that I used:

The hardest bit is getting the driver to work. Some people are having trouble with the older USBasp tools and windows 7, but this laptop is win7 64bit and it all worked fine.

andys 23-05-2013 06:32 PM

Cheers Col.

Appreciate the help :)

I am still very confused by this though.. done some more reading on prop adapters / prop savers etc and I think I should have bought motors that are kind of the other way around - with the motor shaft extending out the other side so I could use a prop saver :(

As it is - I have to use the included prop adapters - shown here mounted with the 3 screws.
It's effectively a nut & bolt with a washer, so my question is how is the prop held firm ? Is it just held by the pressure of the nut & bolt, I thought there would be a flatspot on the shaft or similar - like we have with buggies / pinion gears - very confused about this :(
