It'll be a fantastic car and it was never made a secret that it'd be pricey. It's a shame that a complete or partial car isn't available(yet) as was described in early posts. I was hoping to go down that direction in the hope it'd be a more economical way to jump on board. Having said all that, if I was racing more this year I'd probably throw caution to the wind and get one built. You pays your money and takes your choice eh?

Si hurry up and get one built,i want to buy it off you so it doesnt sit on your shelf:thumbsup:

Hi
I can't argue that if you have no Kyosho stuff, the complete package is at the higher end of the scale, and if I had power to do something about that, I would.
If I had those powers i would also make Ferraris, Lambos and Porsches cheap too .....:)

lcpvcce 05-05-2012 08:19 AM

Agreed with you Tony and I know that is not cheap ,
but it is must buy item !!! .............:wub

Baring in mind that the majority of people who will be interested in this car will be running Kyosho cars anyway it is likely that they will be able to build it up out of their spares box / old car.
I might be lucky in this respect but if I don't mind mixing blue and gun metal alloy parts I priced the car up as only £10 more than the conversion kit + raiding my spares.
(If your not running Kyosho, especially the Lazer, then please ... take one for a drive, you WILL be very impressed :) )

For the rest of you out there without the depth of Kyosho spares to draw from here is my advice;

1) buy a 2nd hand Lazer FS/FS2/FS2-sp ...I've seen cars come up for around £120.
2) buy a 2nd hand Ultima RB5 (any type, think of the WC front end as a tuning aid for a bit more mid corner steering ... which the DB1 certainly doesn't lack to start with) .. these can be found for £60
3) strip both cars and sell on the remainder of the parts ... depending on versions bought you might well get the majority of your money back
4) replace the wear items with new (hinge pin bushes LAW32, ball cups97021H, shock bushing set W0203)
5) treat the diff to a rebuild
6) go racing.

Anybody who has run the Kyosho cars before will know that the build quality is 2nd to none and I have an RB5 from 2007 and an FS from 2009 both of which I'd happily put straight on the track and neither have had any major components or gears replaced!

Looking back to the days when the pits where filled with Atomic S4s etc. there were plenty of people who were happy to layout £600+ on a buggy if it gave them an advantage ... DB1 will be giving you an advantage ;)

Bodyshells have arrived for the 1st batch of kits and a very few available as spares :) (obviously from the RudeBits website)

Does this mean the kits will be released any earlier Tony?
Fingers crossed! Lol!

If your like me that likes to drive 2wd in the summer & 4wd in the winter i see this car as a great opportunity
If i buy a used fs2 for around £150, the rb5 front end for £100 & the conversion for £200 that's £450, ok that's a fair bit but for that i kinda get 2 cars, i get to run the db1 during the summer & when the winter hits i can take the back end off it & put it back on the fs2, hey presto i have a 4wd ready for winter :D

DB1

Mines all sorted, brand new RB5 WC & a almost new FS2.
Just waiting for the DB1 kit. Just ordered the undertray & a spare bodyshell.
So... Should be up & running in no time!
Can't wait! Lol

I have art complete zx-5 in bits sitting in my pot box, could that be used?

RogerM 07-05-2012 08:22 AM

Theoretically yes it could be used but as the geometry (including the diff height) & drive shaft lengths is quite a bit different to the FS2 you'd end up running a fairly different car to the team so setup exchange would be more difficult.

Depending on the spec of the bits you have the upgrade path might not be too extensive [or worse case you might only be able to use the diff, tower (not diff case or tower mount) & hinge pins]. Post up the spec of the spares you have and I will tell you what you would need to upgrade to get an exact team car.

Collected my shells yesterday

just the standard lazer zx-5 rear end i have the toe in blocks but they are in another box

RogerM 08-05-2012 11:21 AM

I am afraid all you will be able to use in order to build the car to the same rear geometry as the team are going to be using is the shock tower and diff (not the case, tower mount or pinion shaft ... although the pinion itself will be fine) bearings and the hinge pins. The hubs, wishbones and driveshafts are all significantly different.

You would be able to build a car around them but you would not be able to transfer the team setups on to it.

Hpi_guy 08-05-2012 12:17 PM

I'm not really bothered about team set ups at the moment just compatibility

lcpvcce 09-05-2012 12:01 PM

Hi RogerM,

Yes absolute right . and some parts need to modification ...............:D

Ken.
