How much will people notice it? Open for debate.

Does it want to be equal front/back. Most current cars that are at the top of the lists have the batts at the back for more rear weight.

I've compared brushed combinations (Nosram Dominator speedos and BRM / checkpoint motors) and brushless (Novak GTB 5.5R and LRP TC and X11 6.5) along with servos from Hitec, Futaba and KO. Also taken both AMB and MRT PTs in to consideration too.

Roger, when i raced on road i tried this and i had to add 170g to get my car up to the weight limit, so i made sure the car was balanced perfectly side to side at one meeting, now i will say i noticed a very slight difference but i dont think it made lap times any faster to be honest and remember this was snooker table smooth. On a bumpy off road track i really dont think it would make the slightest bit of difference

I meant that the front side - side was equal across the car and the rear side - side was equal across the car, not that front and rear weight distribution would be equal (ie. 50 / 50).

If you look at comparing the S4 and BJ4WE it's based on you will find that the front / rear split on those cars are quite different, some will prefer teh stability of the more rearward weight balance of teh BJ4WE ... many seem to prefer the more forward weight distribution of the S4 as it makes the front the car easier to set up to steer agressively.

It's all about personal preference at the end of the day. I was just stating my first thoughts on seeing the car, not wanting to start some heavy debate.

No doubting that the Serpent is going to be built almost bomb proof .... I remember my old 1/8th on-road car from the late 80s ... if you hit something with that it disintergrated and the Serpent just carried on!!

I am sure it will be the strongest off-roader out there which will make it very popular for that reason alone!

I read your post as front/rear and side/side

mark christopher 09-02-2008 11:23 AM

Could you elaborate? I'm unsure how it could not matter whether a car is balanced or side heavy. If the car is heavy on one side it's going to jump crooked and turn in one direction better than the other. Just ask my BJ4.

Contrary to that, the S4 has the motor in the front, and the batts in the back, and it's well known that it's a weight forward car. The motor in the front adds more weight than the batteries in the back.

News from serpent THE PRICE IS 450 euro + -

SimonW 11-02-2008 02:02 PM

I'm guessing that would equate to about £320-£350 depending on money strengths and all

It sounds tweaked to me mate, i have never had a problem with the Bj jumping crooked, its always very predictable. Im sure mr lowe would back me up on this, as well as doughty and the other people who run cars with the motors that run length ways.

There is far more rotating mass with in the wheels and tyres to out weigh the difference between the motor and speedo, servo and reciever

Plus the motor spins toward the centre of the car so surely that would try to lift that side of the car as well????

Let's hope it's not just pretty to look at like the S400 which has the crappest plastic known to RC...

It does look the part though...
