cheers bud
much easier to paint than the previous shell. Looking forward to the Finnisher shell, as seen at the Reedy Race : http://www.liverc.com/photos/albums/...s/DSC_0244/lg/ Not sure if it's a JConcepts or a Proline, but I'll have one :) Not got any tyres to do a "mounted" shot yet - just switched to the 14mm wheels and flogged my old 410. |

Growing in confidence now. Also got a new airbrush clicky which is going to vastly speed up things, cos I was truggling with my budget AB one from everythingairbrush.co.uk  |
Very nice that mr G liking the step by step pics, not something you see very often. Top job that fella considering you were truggling with your airbrush lol.
|
Looks crisp Mr Grason.
Very steady hand - did you have a few shandies to calm your nerves before cutting ? Don't like the blue windows though ! |
Lovely and crisp design Andy, well executed too and done in a completely different way to if I'd done it   It's nice seeing other people work !
|
Cheers all ...
eyeayen - what would you have done differently ? ... curious ! |
Looks smart, very good lines:)

Nothing else just the order you sprayed the colours, and I don't think I'd have faded the orange and blue together. Maybe just let the blue fade out or put a pink in between as both would fade into pink well. OR blue into silver, silver into gold, gold into orange. That's me though and I'd have probably taken ages to do it where as it looks like you've done this in good time ! |
busy doing the 44.1 bulldog shell, I turn my eye for one minute, and my cars seem to be breeding...

ok, latest one from me, for Mr Steve Kirk (aka DJ Kirky of oOple disco madness fame). Previewed on "Andy's £10,000 airbrush adventures" thread.
Been doing Steve Kirk's shells recently, and h'e just got himself a 210, and seen all the vinyl madness going on with our mutual friend Andy Shillito. Andy has kindly provided some vinyl masks for me for this one, both to do the "proracing" logos, and the window masks (complete with outline). My intention with this shell, very specifically, was to mix liquid mask and vinyl, to achieve the proracing logo, whilst still having the flowing lines right round the shell, which are best done in liquid mask. To boot, I didn't want to be a chicken, and I wanted the blue / white transition to cut through the centre of the proracing lettering. So here's some step by step pics : Vinyl mask for the proracing logo applied. This can be considered to be in 3 parts : 1) the lettering 2) the outline, and 3) what I would refer to as the waste. The waste is key, as it gives you a 'reverse mask', and ultimately allows you to spray the black outline of the lettering first. Essential given the lettering is to be white, and the surrounding area is to be white. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7078/7...26e8b6affc.jpg Now, you add the liquid mask, and this is the one bit of the whole job which requires some patience. The LM needs to be carefully brushed up to the vinyl so it slightly overlaps onto the waste vinyl. I really took my time with the liquid mask on this shell, and now know how much that paid off. 4 decent layers, carefully applied. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8149/7...56ff40c32a.jpg And here's the shell fully masked, with the 'sweeping' transition lines drawn on the outside with a Sharpie pen. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7229/7...94ff6d7fae.jpg What I've done here is to use some 3mm trim tape on the outside, purely to act as a visual aid ready for when I cut the LM inside the shell. You can see that I've also removed the vinyl 'outline' mask ready to spray the black first. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8023/7...aa10e4a49d.jpg Missed a photo here, but I'm sure you can figure it out. The black's been sprayed for the lettering outline, and then the large areas of masking removed for the blue. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8165/7...9d5caaa8d6.jpg Sprayed the chrome line, then the red (backing the chrome at the same time), and find that the trime lines I put on the outside really paid off - I've got some nice parallel lines. Then the bit I love - you pull away the mask around the lettering and see the crisp results. I found that the LM and the vinyl stuck to each other nicely. I could start pulling the LM, and it would take the vinyl away with it, or vice versa. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8028/7...307215b9a6.jpg Add the white... simples. The remove the window masks, and add back in the smaller window masks (again, courtesy of Shilly) allowing me to paint the window surrounds. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7072/7...4b4febdf00.jpg and one from above... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7224/7...1fb3c8179d.jpg And a similar deal with the wing. Used some frisk film to mask up the remaining wing area, so again I could spray the black first. Unfortunately, the frisk film left behind a nasty residue, so I had to clean it up with some WD40, and then some soapy water. Got away with it in the end, but it must have added 45 mins to the process. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7243/7...eca2055bb8.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5034/7...268e69c625.jpg done... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7227/7...d8571de57c.jpg Chuffed with this one. Finally cleared my backlog, and can now paint my two shells, which i put to the back of the queue ! |
Looks good mate, nice little tutorial there !
And a quality result at the end of it ! |
cheers eyeayen !
And here's a few more, for interest ... My own 210 Finnisher, which I really like(d), but alas it's the one I was referring to on Andy's thread, that cracked on the cut line .... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7240/7...f73f4187c7.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7239/7...54ed84686a.jpg And also a set of 3 Durangos for Stu Evans ... http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5279/7...57f6a9e10a.jpg |
Checked ones are cool dude
 |

What's your take on all the vinyl madness Jon, as somebody who can do it without the use of tech? Andy |
