You know it HAS to be done Wes

It sounds to me that all the people that are think of going to this maybe event are already in our hobby, so promoting it to newbies and only current drivers turning up (which it sounds to me), is most properly not a good result if you look at the big picture.
Maybe a BRCA and distributors promoted event (tv etc.) at the NEC (Central and 100miles from me) with invites to drivers around the world for UK indoor GP and a 'have a go theme' could be better to promote new drivers, members countrywide to see what it`s all about and get hooked. Woodvale rally in 1991 was where i bought my first car, a Procat, and a short break 2003/4 for 18months for traveling reasons since then. |

Has Bolton Model Mart shut down Stu?
I agree with you, as much as us current racers want a full blown international event, the general public would not have a clue what was going on or who the big names were. One venue fairly local is the EPIC (Ellesmere port indoor centre) i think you know it well woOdy  That is an awesome facility and a gallery above for people to watch the racing. Maybe out of the area you are looking at though. It would be interesting to see how many new members the NERCR club attracted from the catherine cookson race last summer. That had a lot of passers by. |

Hi Woody, we are only rank amaturs from the Southport track, if you are short of names - which I dont expect you will have, please add mine + 2 others.
We would be driving 2WD buggies, any rules on motors and batteries? BR Tommy:thumbsup: |
I'd be up for it too...count me in.

Shame to hear you want to keep it small and local, even if it's a really good idea to get people into the sport.
Even if it's good for promoting the sport, I really hate running races so exposed to the public. I don't like the idea of leaving my stuff on the table and racing/marshalling while Joe Public sifts through my stuff... One of the major races here in Germany that is more in the public eye is at the Dortmund model trade fair. But there racers and passers-by are kept nicely separate and there is a booth where people can inform themselves. I still think an electric class or day at Neo-Buggy would be a huge attraction to international racers and would give my back teeth for an opportunity to run there! :) |
Sounds like 2 things happening here. Firstly - Woody and his 'get more members in the Manchester area' event & Secondly - some fancy one-off national event.
BTW Woody - at Lawford Buggy Club we run an event at a local car show once a year with the aim to helping promote the sport. Always seems to go down quite well. |

I remember quite a few years ago the Harrogate club did a meeting at the Harrogate showground.
That got loads of attention with families watching quite a few races. Key to this success was that there was an attraction which brought the people to the venue in the first place, with the car racing being additional entertainment. |

However a big event also sounds cool too, but the logistics must be a nightmare! Either way, good luck woOdy:thumbsup: |
Southport used to run a meeting at the woodvale rally near formby, that attracts a couple of thousand people over the weekend but haven't done anything for the last couple of years, maybe this could be revived. But this isn't indoors or does it have to be ?:)
