I drive a Toyota Hiace, a newer one, 56 reg, it's about £75 to fill up, and i get about 400 miles per tank, so I may have been exaggerating a little, but it's still gonna cost over a ton!!! especially as when I come home sunday night i will have my foot to the floor, and the fuel milage drops big time, haha:thumbsup:But I will get home quicker!!!

My major cut down will come this winter/next year when the twins are born.
I think I will just be doing regionals next year and possibly just worksop through the winter...if I can get away with it.:D

It's not too bad at the moment because my daughter is 6 and so can decide herself if she wants to come to meetings or not (I'll have the whole family with me at Tally-so it better be sunny).
Not being able to afford the outlay on a caravan (well, a decent one anyway) it will be a hotel job, and that will be the case for all the Nats. and that aint cheap, although when you add up the extra cost for fuel (pulling a 'van), food and everthing else that comes with camping then its probably not much different.

Fuel is the major outlay at the moment though, and until something is done about it, it could be the reason why a lot of people pack up.

But saying all that, its good to have 'me' time, and getting away for a days racing is great, even if the family comes too.

I can understand why people want to spend more time with the family when the kid/s come along, but it is a LOT of hard work and it wont be long until they are wanting free time to relax.
I actually loved going back to work when sophie was born because although work was hard, its not as hard as looking after kids and it was a relief to have time in someone elses company, even though it was only for half a day. When I say hard work looking after kids, I mean hard as in, tiring and exhausting, especially if they're not a child that likes to just sleep and eat........which ours wasn't! lol
1 hrs sleep per night for 2 yrs! takes its toll!!!:lol:

They're worth it though.

bet you are right as well as if i have to give up it will be due to the price of diesel rather than anything else. my vento has had 14 quid added to the cost of a tank since i got it 20 months ago which is already starting to pinch a bit more than id like

LOL, quality! I use that website a lot - saves a lot of time in browsing

Who else drives home with foot to the floor boards from a national? I have started driving to them as sensible as possible as I just know I will be consuming plenty of fuel on the way home.

Actually the other way around ..... I need to drive like that to get there in time on the sat morning ..... drive home is far more relaxed to make up for it ....... anyway after my final I can drive at a snails pace and still be home in time for tea .... LOL

I have given up twice in the last 15 years and sold everything its hard work having to start again with everything. I am with Lee and Chris you need something to do at the weekends and you can make it as cost as much as you want it to. I work all week and racing gets me out into the fresh air to relax. I dont go out on the piss anymore so this is the only thing that I do. I go to the nationals on a budget one set of tyres for each car and thats it then they are used for the next regional (which I made the A final with on sunday) the 4wd tyres will be used at the next national as well, the cheepest crate of beer at asda and a bit of food sausages bacon and eggs in the main. I only have a little car so it dosn't cost the earth to run £35 should get me to tally and back as I tow a little trailor so cant go over 60. I enjoy the nationals as you get to watch some of the best drivers in the world and maybe you may be lucky and get near to them (within a second a lap I am a happy man). Tel get a tent they can be got cheep as and they are realy comfy if done right ours is like a home from home.
