Sorry, quite right DCM, just been and checked the cupboard I got it out of, it was indeed brake cleaner, the can of "Carburettor & Choke Cleaner" was still at the back covered in a layer of dust (don't get to fiddle with many carbs or chokes these days).

Maybe old news but during the upcoming Japanese toy fair Tamiya will be showing some of the new hop-ups for the durga.

Expect front and rear alloy suspension mounts (3-racing style), motor heatsink, and a centre one-way

I really hope availability improves of Durga parts soon (well, DB01 parts I guess to be correct).

Looking forward to seeing the new hop-ups.

Cheers!

I qualified third and finished second at the North West regional at Bury yesterday. Only change on the car was sticking the shocks out one hole on the tower all round - I thought it might push the tyres into the ground a little more and give me a little more grip - which it seemed to do, and made it a little more reactive also. The shocks were pretty bad but I've known they needed a rebuild for ages - wanted to run the AERO this weekend but didn't have it done in time.
I'll be taking the Durga along next weekend (national) but only as a backup car - I guess my time racing the durga as my main car has come to an end but I'm sure to race it again at some point.

CAClark 05-05-2008 07:32 PM

Is there a setup guide anywhere for the Durga Jimmy, I'd sure like some insight in to your setup choices on different track types.

Cheers!

DCM 05-05-2008 08:27 PM

Jimmy, you will be back when you get fed up repairing other cars :woot:

Toonz 06-05-2008 03:10 AM

i finished 5th yesterday for the TAC round 3 :)

sim 06-05-2008 03:50 AM

Toonz,
Congrats! I only managed 7th over here. :( But I must say I had a lot more fun than in Round 1 when I drove a DF-03. That buggy in TAC-legal form is just too nose-heavy for the big jumps. The DB-01 just behaved itself a lot better in the air, and all around the track generally.

Jimmy,
Thanks for sticking with the Durga for so long and finding out so much about the car for the rest of us. You going back to the 501X or for your nationals?

thanks sim :) i'm still trying to improve myself on the track...

7th isn't bad, take it easy man!

the db01 does give a peace of mind on the track as it is such a tame buggy:thumbsup:

Like the sound of the carbon reinforced chassis, but how does a centre one way work, I would have though it would have totally removed the brakes or am I being dumb  ?

jimmy 06-05-2008 09:00 PM

The centre one way works on the front of the car but is located on the centre layshaft pulley. So the pulley itself will freewheel when off power. When on-power its just like a 'normal' 4WD car. So you get a little more steering into the corner and an easy to drive car out of the corner without the same snappy handling of a front one way.

Spoolio 06-05-2008 09:20 PM

Ah, I see. I just presumed it acted on both front and rear pulleys. To be honest I've not noticed my Durga suffers from lack of steering. On carpet it's usually got too much.

Toonz 07-05-2008 07:34 AM

i'm currently using a standard servo for my durga and i want something better that's suitable for racing in the TAC. it doesn't have to be too expensive and super high end as i don't want to spend too much. just good enough to steer the car.

looking into futaba....

any recommendation?:)

thanks:thumbsup:

I always thought the Durga had a Carbonfiber reinforced chassis, but now Tamiya is going to release

Quote:

54041 DB01 Carbon Reinforced Chassis
Anybody who can clarify it?

I'm curious what the heat sink will look like btw! I think it will be the TA05 heat sink, but then a bit smaller to fit under the body.

sim 07-05-2008 11:39 PM

The Durga has the soft plastic chassis like the TA-05. It's much tougher than the crummy "ABS" plastic like the DF-03, and stiffer than the old black nylon stuff (Grasshopper).

Tamiya's carbon reinforced plastic however is very nice stuff. Not as stiff as graphite but much stronger.

I don't see myself upgrading to the stiffer chassis though. Not unless I get much much much better at driving.

jimmy 08-05-2008 12:06 AM

The stock chassis is glass reinforced, I think the carbon chassis might help it on high grip tracks.

sim 08-05-2008 03:57 AM

Toonz,
Does it have to be digital? If you use analog, I would highly recommend the Sanwa ERG-RZ. It's fast and tough as nails.

Toonz 09-05-2008 02:08 AM

it doesn't have to be digital. something affordable that works will be good enough :)

will look into this sanwa, thanks sim!

The Durga is not a cheaper 501X, I would consider it a less expensive version...

So, if it's less expensive, that makes it cheaper right

I am running mine in the National at the end of the month...... should be fun, now do I get a center one-way (do they do them, do the TA05 one fit?) cause I have never liked a front one-way....

jimmy 16-05-2008 09:15 AM

Centre is coming out I think? get a front one way and stop messing about!

CAClark 16-05-2008 09:31 AM

Are any of you Durga types planning to post your setups like folks have for the 501? For beginners like me it would be interesting learning :)

Cheers!

I have tried them before and just don't like it, I hate an edgy car.... :(

jimmy 16-05-2008 10:28 AM

In what may I ask? a one way in a 18th scale buggy is a world of difference from a one way in a stable well-handling easy-to-drive car like the Durga.
Just mentioning the 'extremes' there of course.

I find a one way is easier to drive on most tracks as you don't have to 'attack' as much to get the car round - it does it on its own.

DCM 16-05-2008 10:41 AM

haha it does give more 'steering' and thats what I don't like, it makes it feel more point and squirt rather than driving it.... maybe it is me getting old though, lol. I just find a front diff makes me far more consistant, although maybe a little slower over a flying lap, but a lot faster over 300+seconds.....

budgio 16-05-2008 05:14 PM

Ive been running mine recently with a front one way at Kiddy and Coventry. It is very hard to get used to...especially braking (and spinning).
I,m going to persevere with it though as ive been getting some half decent lap times.I,ll prob try the centre when it appears too.

budgio 16-05-2008 05:16 PM

Also just noticed the carbon reinforced parts are now available from stella :)

A.J. Gee 17-05-2008 09:10 PM

Do any of you guys know where i can locate some of the 840 bearings for the slipper assembly? Apparently my bearing took a beating and came apart on me. Thanks guys.

DCM 17-05-2008 10:16 PM

AJ, you got a PM with regard to the bearings

A.J. Gee 18-05-2008 01:45 AM

Thanks brother.

Is green slime too thick to use for Diff Balls? Have any of you blokes tried it before?

DCM 18-05-2008 08:50 AM

green slime is for the shock o-rings dude

A.J. Gee 18-05-2008 10:40 AM

Lube is Lube dude. I didn't expect a "yes" for an answer, but the green slime was all i had around at the moment. Problem has been fixed though. Not to question your intelligence, but are you sure green slime is used specifically for shock O rings? I beg to differ.

Doomanic 18-05-2008 10:50 AM

Green Slime is a lube specifically for O rings, it is not suitable for use as diff lube.

grease isn't just a grease, they are a specifically formulated compound for a specific task, just like oil is, you won't be using engine oil in your shocks, or shock oil in your diffs (nitro).
