Cheers Ian, I bet this took way longer than you will admit and the detail is just outstanding. It's also just as I wanted, nice and clean and simple but oh so very well laid out and the colours just compliment each other.

VillageIdiot 31-12-2011 07:44 PM

how many hours go into a shell like this?

you cant knock how sexy serpents are :wub

ASKay 31-12-2011 08:10 PM

Just when you think that it could not get any better, then you see something like this..... No matter how much was paid it would not do this justice.. the design is perfectly simple, yet extremely graphic.... top notch + some....

Nas 31-12-2011 08:10 PM

That shell looks FANTASTIC!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

LRP 31-12-2011 08:17 PM

Shell , it's not low tach enough ( if I'm making sence ) cheers si

bigred5765 31-12-2011 10:17 PM

wow flipin awesome mate

eyeayen 01-01-2012 06:35 AM

Guys, thank you, I'm never sure how my designs are going to be received so it's cool that I'm doing different stuff and it's liked !

@Lip - I don't count how many hours really. The planning and working the masks out is the longest part, by comparison the painting is quite quick. Now I have done it once A 2nd one will be easier. That said it was a bit tricky to spray with all the different fades and trying to keep it clean as I did it all with film not liquid mask !

@LRP - I use a transparent grey mask called "Paint Mask" or it might be "Premium Paint Mask", but I buy it in 50M rolls ( about a metre and a half for this one and about four metres the for SCT for RC Lazy, so I get through it ), you should try frisk film from Everything Airbrush CLICKY However my style is quite graphical and I prefer to work this way if I can, having used both I do think the Liquid Mask that Jon sells offers a lot of advantages as it covers all those tricky to mask area's, it gets in everywhere, you don't get blow throughs so I'd still say that's the best way to go if you're doing bigger chunkier stuff, it's just easier and quicker ! I guess if I'd done this in that way I'd have spent as long cutting it out as I did trying to get the film to lay across all the surfaces, swings and roundabouts.

@badger5 - Glad you like it fella, will email you those other pictures I got of it. Bring on the next one

The Chef 01-01-2012 02:07 PM

Looks flawless Ian, Really precise. i'd like to see how you use the cutter and film.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

eyeayen 01-01-2012 02:13 PM

Cheers Chef - It's not as glamourous as it sounds and there's usually a lot of swearing involved  If we meet up at Slough you can ask me all the questions you want and I'll go through it with you.

jonmiller 01-01-2012 06:02 PM

nice shell dude ;)

DaveTheRave 01-01-2012 07:28 PM

smarkham 12-01-2012 08:56 PM

Thats awesome take it you used cut vynal as the decal masks ?

eyeayen 12-01-2012 09:41 PM

Yeah I drew them all out and cut them on the cutter. The bulk of the body was with LM though. The cutter is just handy making sure everything is the same.

jonmiller 12-01-2012 10:02 PM

noice1 bredda

The Chef 12-01-2012 10:14 PM

Sweet tight and clean. Nice one Ian.

eyeayen 12-01-2012 10:31 PM

Thanks guys.

Damn it I always end up posting at the bottom of a page with new work so it's soon out of sight

andys 12-01-2012 10:44 PM

Wow.

Awesome stuff. I've not tried my mask film / cutter yet, but I can imagine getting the mask to lay flat on bendy bits of some shells is a nightmare !

eyeayen 12-01-2012 11:02 PM

Cheers Andy...

Getting masks into the shells is a whole new nightmare all in itself  The UNO RC one I did wrong, 3 times, it's a funny logo and I put it in upside down, 3 times  then I got one of the Nemo ones upside down too... :wtf:

I was just laughing at myself in the end, it was that or cry

Turned out nice in the end though.

That depends how many posts your profile is set up to view per page, you can change it in your user cp, hit edit options then scroll down & you will see a box called Number of Posts to Show Per Page, i have mine set to 40 posts per page so for me your post is in the middle of the third page, remember to scroll to the bottom & save any changes :D

As always mate your work is amazing  keep up the superb work Ian

jayst 12-01-2012 11:37 PM

Thanks - I don't set out to paint shelf queens though, I'd rather see them used and on the track than sat gathering dust

Well what can i say guys, the pictures really do not do it justice, the whole thing is just superb. I cannot recommend Ian highly enough the whole thing was a just a real eye opener, i have never been one for being able too paint and just having someone being able too design a shell with me was a real bonus, and that is just what it was he helped everystep of the way, even so far as being able too take a trip down too him and having him help with the placing of sponsor logos, and the stripe down the middle, perfectly wide enough so when its cut i still had some blue on the outer edges, its touches like this that make a difference. His work is just first class, the shell arrived perfectly packaged and i could go on for hours (in fact i think Ian and myself have talked for hours about all aspects of this shell) i really do know what else i can add too this the colours are perfect. the layout is exactly what i wanted and as soon as i get some time i will post some pics with it on the car. without a doubt the best shell i have had. Recommended without a moments thought.

eyeayen 13-01-2012 11:13 PM

WOW - thanks Mark

That's nothing to do with the paint you just like the fumes:thumbsup::thumbsup:

eyeayen 14-01-2012 10:33 AM

 ssshhhhhhhhh don't tell everyone

Actually I notice it now if I go into a paint place but when I was doing it everyday I didn't notice, you can smell the lacquer or solid colours that use hardners to set them off but the base coat and thinners I really didn't notice. Scary when you think about it.
