Three belt transmission, with adjustable internal ratio.

Like you X-5 Carl? That you can change the belts/pullies on?

The Spur rotates the same direction as the tyres on my ProCat, so do the wheels!

I heard about a secret varibelt system ??!???!????

Mooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahah ahahahahahaha !!!

minimini 27-02-2008 04:20 PM

really wanna know if the drive-train is sealed or not.........

jimmy 27-02-2008 04:25 PM

I wouldn't have thought so, I'd guess it would have an undertray etc - but not a fully enclosed drivetrain.

Cruise

bigred5765 27-02-2008 05:00 PM

why tomorrow
whats wrong with NOW

Cruise 27-02-2008 05:02 PM

Less fun:p

Oliv996 27-02-2008 06:40 PM

Yes, with Cruise we used to have one day one clue !!!

DCM 27-02-2008 06:51 PM

if they had the motor turning in the same direction of the wheels, that might do something funky to the handling, as the rotation would oppose the squatting motion but that would need a layshaft driving a pair of idler gears (wtf....) or is this schumacher trying to re-invent the wheel?

Oy! No making fun of the Trabi please. It's the only car that's as fast in reverse as it is in forward gear. They used to race these on an oval ... .. .backwards! :woot:

Besides, I believe Audi revived the vari-push-belt technology and use it on their excellent line of automatic gearboxes....

Body Paint 27-02-2008 08:17 PM

The Fireblade was known as the "Allegro" (crap English car)... surely the Cat SX wont end up being called the "Trabant" I just refuse to beleive it

That was the DAF with the belt gearbox. You just changed the size of the pulleys to change gear with a sliding lever. Intensely cool to be able to do 100kmh in reverse (theoretically :woot:)
Trabbis were just nasty two-strokes without a fuel gauge. You have to measure how much petrol you still have with a stick...

Here's how the DAF box worked http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...chsantrieb.jpg

What a suave car for the discerning gentleman

Sorry, just noticed this was violently off-topic but I was half-asleep when I read DAF somewhere

No it'd do the opposite, same as the 4 gear gearbox in the mid-motor 2wd's it would increase the effect ;)

elvo 28-02-2008 09:40 AM

Sh!t, you're right Sparrow. My apologies for mixing up these two icons of German transportation...

Mr Sparrow, you are spot on, Daf 55. I am a master of taking thread way off topic, it's what comes from random thoughts

Hijacking threads and random posting are both fine arts of the digital age

sparrow.2 28-02-2008 09:55 PM
