Harry loves it mate, I'll return the Croc one on Sunday @ Torch. Do you want to put the Croc one on sale?
|
Don't think it will appeal to the masses but he can keep it for bashing.
|
great spray jobs
|
Had a go at free handing and just playing with this one trying just to get to know my kit and paints better.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050274.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050273.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050272.jpg What do you reckon. I think some of the ghosting needs to be more fluid. |
True flame effect is a nightmare the right way around let alone backwards in side a shell. It's not a bad effort but I'd say your biggest trouble is you've tried to do it all with one colour, if you look at the flame paint jobs they go through white, yellow, orange and into red over a black.
I think this would have looked a lot better if you'd used white and also a mid blue and maybe a dark blue or a turquoise ? When you use a template don't go all the way down it, keep turning it to get different curves, clean it off, flip it over, you seem to have used one shape, have you got a flame template ? ( Jon, do you sell them ? ) - if not pop down to your local art shop, buy one piece of plastic coated drafting film or some acetate and cut it yourself, Flame stencils aren't too difficult to make yourself, for everything else like the gear wheels and skulls and stuff I'd say just go with one you can buy, it's quicker and easier. You're flames need more shapes in them, reference is everything with this, do a google image search so you have reference of real fire to work from. Also less is more. It's clear you have the talent and are getting along well with the airbrush and learning each piece with the paints it's just a case of refining what you've learnt so far. |
Thank you for your criticism, it is much appreciated I did use white turquoise and a darker marine turquoise but I think that I went too thick. I can see that I went round the stencil too far having looked back on it more experience. I hope to learn from each shell and improve as I go. Just takes time.

There was no offense taken. I just wanted to tell you that i had thought through what I painted and had tried and failed with the depth of colour:D
Must try harder. I'm painting a helmet for a mates birthday gift tonight. I have to get this one right:confused: |
Helmets have a safety factor that's more important than how the paint job looks. Make sure you don't get any paint at all on the inside and that includes the vent holes. Only take off what you can. And when it's clear coated make sure they don't bake it in an oven as that will damage the inside, you can't see it either but it won't work if it needs to in an accident. You need to be SUPER CAREFUL. Any problems PM me... that said I'm moving house Friday so won't have internet until next week...
|
Thank you. Sorry poor description on my part. Should have said welding helmet/visor. But yes you are quite correct one should take many precautions when doing anything on a safety item.
|
Painted the welding helmet for my best friend tonight chuffed to bits with it. As always a couple of minor masking errors but apart from that I happy with the blue fire and the vw badge.
Honest opinions please. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050276.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050291.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050299.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050301.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050302.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050304.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050306.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050307.jpg What do you reckon? |
Not bad Chef, not bad! I would of personally had shadow on the checked area a little darker to give it a little more curved look and bottom part of the fire is really good but doesn't quite match up with the top flames on the visor.
Apart from that I think its a really good effort, not to many visible mistakes and has a really cool look to it, I think the blue flames are the best touch . and the carbon effect gets a thumbs up too :D. good stuff. I think the main thing is whether your friend is happy with it, and of course you are. |
Nice work Chef
That's 1 cool welding helmet |
That looks pretty darn cool to me chef. Im loving the little kettle signature as well, nice touch. Is this on the car shells you paint? If not, I think it should be....

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050321.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050318.jpg And Craig at my local club asked me to replicate his Cougar shell, here they are. Apologies to whom ever did the design originally. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050317.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050316.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/P1050315.jpg What do you reckon.:D |

agreed, they are a right pig of a shell. |
I'll order a couple of bits in the week:thumbsup: Had real trouble getting mask of the last two shells I've done. The only thing that I can think is that i have put it on too thinly as it is not coming off nicely in sheets/strips.
|
yup, that's what it'll do if put on too thin
|
I think thats one of your best ones so far, good work
|
It looks more tidy in the flesh.:D Still need more practice though.

Not bad points just take some adjusting. Let me know what you think TOM. |
