5 Attachment(s)
I still have some decals.
|
WOW now those decals you never see anymore :woot: any chance of getting a hi res scan so we can get them remade?
|
I know a man who can on ebay who will sell at a reasonable price so as per Peakeys email a pukka high res scan of these will be perfect.
|
Someone has kindly spent the time scanning old mags for any wasp stuff and emailed them to me, many thanks to Jirka.
I also found some old photos while moving house which I'll try and locate again. i shall post the emailed picture in a bit |

If anyone has any machined wasp products ie anything in ally or nylon and your willing to let it go for a price let me know as I would love to have some of the bits dad made.
|
Nice images, brings back memories, i was in most of the fabiix ads when these were advertised, and a couple of the kyosho guys including me used sometimes the wasp spur with changing sections as 99 or 101 came in handy.

I remember gear sets in the factory on the bench but I don't recal them being made so you might be right.
I only saw dad for a few years and even that was every other weekend so the information I have is very limited, a lot of you guys probably know more than me. |
I managed to track one of these down last year but I'm afraid to say it's going nowhere
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4qzoqadi.jpg It now lives in my XLS http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psnxjwiymc.jpg |
Some nice history there on Wasp. Thanks for sharing

I love the look of the cat rear geared gear box and the moulded tub chassis for the cougar and bosscat would have been bought for sure:drool: |
A couple of weeks back I dismantled a Kyosho Salute I'd gotten as a spare parts chassis and found something I think would fit in this thread.
I just copied the text from the post I made over at RC10Talk, http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.ph...461540#p461540, -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As mentioned previously I got a spare part Salute chassis last week because it had the Belt Drive Kit I was looking for. Something about it, maybe the red/brown belt got my spidey sense tingling though... https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8597/2...0c7d1524_c.jpg Began dismantling the chassis to take a look. First thing I noticed was it didn't have the lexan cover for the pulley gear. https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8645/2...9b566fa5_c.jpg Rear gearbox. https://c5.staticflickr.com/6/5520/3...4358ce76_c.jpg The inside. https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5339/3...04603699_c.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8410/3...469740bf_c.jpg Rear Diff: https://c3.staticflickr.com/6/5737/2...915aee6f_c.jpg https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5777/3...80e38217_c.jpg Front gearbox: https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5481/3...20dce039_c.jpg Front diff: https://c4.staticflickr.com/6/5441/2...17034105_c.jpg https://c5.staticflickr.com/6/5542/2...a003e7e2_c.jpg Not quite sure what I've got here. Looks like someone took a belt and some belt drive diffs and just chucked it in there. Don't recognise the diffs either as I compare the parts with this http://theoptimahouse.blogspot.se/20...or-optima.html. The belt pulleys on the diffs seem to be made of metal. Anyone that can identify what I've got here? ------------------------------------------------------------------------- With the help of this thread, people at RC10Talk and some other facebook groups I've come to the conclusion that I've stumbled across a WASP Belt Drive for the Optima. :woot: |
There is a wasp spur gear system for the Lazer zx/zxr on ebay.
|
Thanks for the thread revival I've just realised I've got one of these yoke chassis and the belt kit to go with it so I know what I've got to build now!

wasp belt drive
The pictures shown I believe were from the parts G Stote Dad, Alan and my dad Terry created to turn the original kyosho optima into a belt drive rather than the chain it came with.
I read earlier somewhere that someone thought RW made the spur gears, To clarify Alan Stote bought a gear cutting machine and produced them on site along with all the other parts for the rc world he made. I should know.....I spent days at the machine making 48dp and 64dp spurs for various cars. Then dad and alan decided to make a blank that fitted in the slipper clutch and spurs that could be changed without dismantling the slipper tension you'd spent ages sorting out!! Back then gear ratios were really important for run time, heat and speed so they were being changed a lot more than today! |
I have spent ages at mum and dads hunting for any of this gear but sadly I can't find very much of it.
What I do have is a lot of memories from a number of people that have written some nice stuff on here |

I've got a small collection of wasp stuff if you ever fancied letting anything go |
Great thread
Did you use any of the wasp stuff you had off me peaky or is it for show? |
Not all of them Daz I'm sure most are still in a box in the garage, I did use a couple of the layshaft holders

The belt I have has some small cracks so I can't use it in a runner. I'm looking at MXL-belts like these but I don't want to order at random and don't feel like counting the teeth either... http://www.ebay.com/itm/B280-B285-B2...nGmBfHlftb9g1Q |
Found some pics of WASP bits

Enjoy or not a little history!! No idea on the teeth of the mid 4 belt sorry dude |
