Haha, that would be nuts. What do they do exactly? Im gonna look into a night course, but as their so expensive i don't wanna get the qualifications in the area that pay £1 a day.

Lee 21-11-2008 10:03 AM

To be honest I don’t know but, look at the job descriptions on the websites for the ones with big wages and see what they require, then do those courses. 99% of people in the industry will pick knowledge over qualifications though, degrees are pretty pointless unless you want to go staff and pay 40% tax. Personally ill take the money

Southwell 21-11-2008 10:07 AM

Most of my stuff is knowledge, i only have a levels but could piss over most graduates
Cheers for your help.

Lee 21-11-2008 10:10 AM

You can spot the ones with the degrees a mile off when you start talking about real life and not something that was explained in a text book or can be solved with a calculation.

Southwell 21-11-2008 10:15 AM

I had an interview yesterday, which was interesting. The job i applied for was different to what they wanted  The description was for system design and development and they wanted an Oracle admin. Funnily enough i still passed their tests, without really knowing what it was. Not sure the 2k a year for parking + fuel and car will be worth it.

Lee 21-11-2008 10:20 AM

more tax if you get the company car, i used to like having my fuel paid for that was a nice perk along with the car but you do get reamed by the tax man, i remember paying about 2k a month in tax out of a 5k month:thumbdown:

Balls to that

PAYE is the devil

ryan 21-11-2008 10:24 AM

Ian, are you the oracle?

Southwell 21-11-2008 10:26 AM

I can see how you would see that, iam pretty amazing.

Hi Ted.

Yeah i read that too but couldn't find the effort to change it. :woot:

Southwell 28-11-2008 08:23 PM

Right-e-o seeing as my colleague just got the job we both went for owing to him having 'more experience', which he doesn't iam at odds of what to do. The guy has basically left me to design and setup all the servers and network over the last two years while he has been out and about massaging peoples egos.
Now, he makes a fair few major mistakes, like deleting people profiles off the servers and not knowing how to fix them, then i have to fix them. Should i keep fixing his mistakes for the sakes of the users or just let him hang himself? I even feel like screwing him over as i have heard rumours of him taking the praise for my work.

Opinions? :confused::woot:

Northy 28-11-2008 10:38 PM

BURN HIM :woot:

Tell your manager Ian. Because then you will get the thing why didnt you tell someone why did you leave it why didnt you repair it. etc etc etc bullsh*t

Chrislong 28-11-2008 10:46 PM

Dude, if you were not there to bail him, what would happen?

Simply take care of yourself, if a user comes to you then so-be-it and take it on - but don't bail somebody out. Heck if redundancies come around you want to be the one they want to keep - right now im guessing they don't realise that as your busybailing out. Just think how much more focus you can put in to what you do if you weren't bailing?

What I tend to do, if it effects me, like it might you. Is point out the obvious for all to see "You've screwed up mate, can't fix it? I'll do it, leave this alone & just go bugger something else up and i'll fix that later too".

Southwell 28-11-2008 10:59 PM

Cheers dude, ill have to think of subtle ways so people can see he isn't god lol. Im always pretty professional to everyone, i can't brown nose people like him though, i refuse to do it, maybe thats my problem....

I had a bit of fun before my previous manager left, i blocked his home drive from writing anything to it, took him 8 hours till he asked for help

Ash, he is now my manager.

ashleyb4 28-11-2008 11:05 PM
