Im just using the plastic ones at the moment. You will need to use the carbon link rod that comes in the centre track rod conversion kit U4113
|
I've got all that but was just going to use a turnbuckle at the top and then just connect them strait to the steering arms by I will see tonight.
|
ill upload a photo of mine tonight so you can see how i set it up

Is that a carbon fiber Procat centre track rod or is it the SX3 one?
|
It's the sx3 one from the centre track rod kit
|
Nice one pal I'll have a look in a bit
|
Ok so here's the new Procat / SX3 hybrid steering setup with a MMS centre track rod

That looks great - I used to have a period ball raced steering back in the day ( think it was wasp that made it) but sold it on when I sold my bosscat 20 or so years ago.
Where did you get the alloy diff pressure plate carriers - I could do with some of them, it's the only bit I suffer with on reliability |
I bought a massive job lot of bits off eBay and there was a couple of pairs in there, along with a few other trick bits that I found out last night. I'll see if I've got any going spare.
I have seen the wasp one before there's a guy on rc10talk's got a nip one :woot: |
Superb - it's the rear diff that gets the hammer and the mms ones just melt eventually
|
Is your rear diff coming loose? If so get U857 from Schumacher and replace the disc springs that should stop it coming loose and melting. If your after new NMS ones daz75 on here has some.
|
Nah diff is nice and tight ( set perfectly) it's just the heat eventually melts the mms carriers - I have three spare sets of the mms ones - I'm using them in The standard rear diff with mms front diff and mms lay shaft
|
Just a bit more on the steering I've stole the pics from rc10talk (thanks guys ) this is an old MMS ballraced steering setup
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2bzbqzqq.jpg And this is the wasp one http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8787ivrp.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psbpaf2tcv.jpg Both look a lot better alternative to the sloppy standerd item but not as good as my version  |
Ok so I got this paperwork on a old mod from it came with some new front uprights I've got but it's missing the important parts. Did anyone ever run this and if so did it work?
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9tih7rce.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...pstjihdin8.jpg This little like c link is what I need I might have a go at making something similar and see how it holds up. http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psu4bkqvmp.jpg |
The procat that I still have has those Tanaplan upper arms on it.
|
So how so they perform? Do they make much difference and did you still need the roll bars or were they not needed like they state
|
I'm running the nylon front upper wishbones - same ones I used on it over 25 years ago - they are a spot on. I would be careful using alloy ones it's a part that needs some flex.

I think so too but I'm going to look at it a bit more as Derbydan said to me earlier about mounting it onto the chassis as to eliminate any flex issues off the top deck.
I'm in the process of sorting a new chassis so this shouldn't be a problem. I just wish I hadn't sold my old Procat chassis I could if drilled a few holes in that to see if it would work. |
Tonight I've been thinking about what I need to get to finish the car off and it dawns on me, all I need is chassis and I can build the car up totally from parts:woot:
Apart from a couple of bits that I'm still waiting on to be finished off (watch this space for something special) When I say I need a chassis I want to run my saddle packs so rather than just add trays to my chassis I want a carbon fiber one (of course) so I should get that ordered next week hopefully Fiber Lyte aren't too busy :( So it looks like the mrs is going to have to put up with another procat in the house she will be pleased :lol::lol::lol::lol::thumbsup: |
|
So, "almost" RTR. lol
|
Almost
|
Will be interested to see what you have planned for the chassis!
Got to admit I was wondering where I was going to get the time just to install some electrics into my two Revival entries (JRX2 could also do with a shell also) ... you've got a whole car to build & get up & running! |
Everyone needs a bit of pressure dan it helps with the motivation
|
I got some roller drive shafts today can anyone shead any light on them I've seen rebuild kits before by can't find any now. Whats in them that needs rebuilding as I can't see much in th at all?
I'm assuming bearings but not had a chance to get them to bits. |
I have now made a bit of progress with the cat albeit small. As my new chassis is looking unlikely to be ready in time I'm having to mod my FRP one. Last night I fitted the lipo holders from my SX3.
I also made a couple of holes to see if I could fit the steering assembly to the chassis, But it hits the end of the servo so unless I find some different bell cranks that will work it's going back on the top deck. Worth a try hey Dan  Other than that it's about it for now. My new front pulley fences and my custom alloy front diff hangers should be here by the end of the week so the build can commence at full pace then. |
Got some new bits that will see the end of the front roll bar
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psrfqcyepu.jpg Now just two bits that are in the post and I can have it built at last |
It's now out of it's box and starting to take shape, still waiting on my alloy front diff hangers as there was a mishap with the first set but have been re done and will be here Monday. So I thought id spend a bit of time on it much to the mrs disgust
I've also swapped the losi shocks for a set of Schumacher small boars to keep it a bit more true to it's roots. http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psjx8bqwxi.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...pskvr2etds.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psea64k7dr.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psrsdflxh3.jpg I managed to get some roller drive shafts for the rear and i also got off Daz75 some nip Bosscat works rear hubs and wishboans. I think a spot of de anodising maybe on the cards but I'll get it built fist and then I'll decide:confused: Just a little throw together I knew it was gonna be tight http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psjwosonua.jpg |
"I managed to get some roller drive shafts for the rear"
You mean one-way rollers? How are you going to slow down? I'm running mine very enjoyably with no one-ways at all - makes me wish I'd had enough spare driveshafts as a kid 30 yrs ago to try it without the front one-ways. Bri |
I was considering not running one ways on the front as it will have the overdrive front pulley but I'll get it running and see what it's like with both
|
Coming together nicely
|
I was hopeing to have it all together but Tim at SOS-MMRC who is makeing the alloy front diff hangers is having teething problems with his finishing tumbler. He ended up melting my set so he had to re cut them on Friday and finish them by hand so I should have them by Monday.
But I've still got loads of time to get it all together and tested haven't i :(:eh?::eh?::eh?: |

So after some time I've recived my custom alloy front diff hangers. The delay really was Tim who made them has only just started producing alloy parts and was waiting on a new finishing tumbler to make them all nice and shiny and smooth.
So when everything did turn up my set went in and after a day they looked like they needed more time so the went back in for a few more hours and when the came out the were over done and had started to melt. Tim let me know what had happend and as he had previously told me I would have them by the weekend. So he cut me a new set and finished them by hand so I could have them and get my Procat built. So here they are first quick pics http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psoniov55t.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...ps55ahocr4.jpg Will get them fitted in the next couple of days. |
Here's a better pic after a bit of a polish
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psomcxw3nr.jpg They arrived with my carbon fiber pulley fences http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2ezrcb1c.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psbol0xmo9.jpg Now everything here I can get it finished |
I managed to get a bit more time last night and got the new front diff together and the new alloy diff hangers fitted.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psuqahoq6q.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psolz7hs4w.jpg http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/...psmzm7kc1y.jpg Which has hi lighted a problem my alloy top deck is about 3mm or so too short so when everything's tightend up it's tensioning the belt up too much. Also the front gearbox housing is too far back as a result and my SX3 steering mod is fouling it. So I'm now looking for a FRP top deck to go with the chassis but failing that I might have to see if I can get a carbon one cut from somewhere. Rallymaddaz if your reading this could you get me the lengths of the bell cranks your useing to see if there shorter than the alloy ones so I can rule that out. |
Haven't you got the centre trackrod on the wrong way round??
