Dear Racers

Here is the update as said in a earlier post, The historic dock yard has given the go ahead to build a permeant off road track at Maritime Raceway.

After tonight committee meeting it was agreed to go forward with the proposal to build the track

The next step is to decide which part off the building to use

First offer track size 14 m 24 m
Second offer track size about 14 m 30 m ( will update tomorrow if different )

This is a one time offer for you to have input to which area we should use there will be a meeting possibly

On Saturday 29th January at Maritime Raceway the meeting will start at 12pm ( to be confirmed )

All are welcome

kaylon 21-01-2011 11:26 PM

This is excellent!... I was planning on coming to your off-road wars event in Feb and I will definitely be down as often as I can to race :)

The club I ran up near Aberdeen was in a 14m x 30m room as was capable off supporting 4-6 cars in a heat... I'd suggest that size.

Once again...Great news indeed.

Ok now we go forward track ideas.

The surface is wooden we propose a multi surface
Wood
Carpet
slippery
pos some astro turf

what do you all think

frogger 22-01-2011 09:02 AM

Absolutely great news. Look forward to racing there. Any chance of keeping 1/16th scale buggies in mind when designing the track so we could run them there too?

Rebelrc 22-01-2011 11:20 AM

All of this sounds fantastic Ian
Loving the multi-surface idea!
Shame I cannot make it to your meeting next Saturday ( roofing ) but please don't think that I am not interested and keen to help out if I can!
Talking of other classes other than 1/10th ,have the maritime considered running the new 1/8th electric offroad indoors in the warm.? That would also be ace ,I don't own one cause there is no where local to run one. But would quickly buy one.

MattADH 22-01-2011 04:55 PM

First of all, what Maritime Racing is doing is great news for the area and the class, and I know that many in the area appreciate yours and the club's efforts.

On to the track surface and personally, I think that Astro would be a great choice. Its hardly wears and is incredibly durable, and this also means that there is a good chance that the tyres used outdoors would work at your venue, eliminating the need for different (special) tyres.

Sections of the track that use carpet, wood and a slippery surface would offer a great challenge too. I do undertstand that Astro is often not the easiest to come across and can work out expensive to transport.

Just my two penneth!

Maritime 24-01-2011 11:07 AM

Wanted by me:drool:

MHeadling 26-01-2011 08:54 AM

Ian I'm afraid I can't make the meeting on the 29th but I hope it all goes well!

I'm sure adding off road to the facility will be a major boost for the South of England.

If you and others can consider the off road 1/16th-1/18th cars in the track design I feel that would be a good move as there are quite a few micros racers in Kent/Essex that would support it.

I'm sure the Micro nationals would love a visit to this venue.

Look forward to news on this venue! Best of luck!

Many thanks Ian and Maritime crew for bringing another much needed off road venue to the South East!!!

I'll second that Dave - apart from the close to home bit ,
Had the chance to visit Maritime today to meet with Ian and the club.
All I can say is WOW - the area that the club has secured will make for an amazing track and pit space and with their commitment to club excellence, this is going to be a real asset to the locality, the region and the hobby in general.
Ian and his crew have got their heads screwed on right and know what it takes to organise and run a great club without being detrimental to the existing club scene in the area and are not afraid to ask for advice on how to make their venue work for the off-road community.
With the chance to cater for 2+4WD and SCT - All I can say is it gets a massive thumbs up from me and I can't wait...

Great news!
