Best thing to practice on is empty pop bottles. Drink them, cut them open then wash and use.....

let me know what you think. feel free to make suggestions on how i could improve it or make it more 'drift like'

can you paint fire?
(200th post)
http://i6.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/b7/8f/c894_3.JPG
doesn't seem too hard.

DCM 25-09-2007 09:31 PM

got to have the right paint for starters, and a decent freehand template.

jonmiller 25-09-2007 10:07 PM

lazerboy - ive only ever painted fire on rc about 4 times as ive hardly ever practiced it. taking that into consideration i think ive done a pretty good job.
that pic u showed was by adrc i think. him n zielke are some of the beasts at paintin this. but mind you, thats just about what they paint all the time, so they should be :D
heres the 4 ive done

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...Picture003.jpg

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m.../IMG_0079b.jpg

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/Image001.jpg

i think im more than capable of it n so i do want to start trying it more as i would like to improve.
seeing as ive only just been painting a year now, ive been trying as many different styles/things i can and so havent had the time to knuckle down and crack on with one particular style.
all in time :D

dcm - just make ur own template outta some spare lexan. like the wheel wells etc.
and it can be done with water based paints. u dont have to have candies like spaz stix etc.

check this out :D:D

peace out

jon

DCM 25-09-2007 11:09 PM

I tried it with some Faskolor Faslucent (the candy ones) and it just came out murky, but I am always willing to try a again. When you look at it, it appears easy to do but isn't.

lazerboy 26-09-2007 12:45 AM

SWEET!!!! i LOVE that. I'm not too big on straight up flames(hot rod style) But i LOVE the look of fire on anything. Great tutorial, thanks for showing me. I'll see what i can do with my $12 auto parts store plastic airbrush. ( no brand, it just says airbrush on the side)

jonmiller 26-09-2007 10:41 AM

yeh, no problem dude.
its a good tutorial, in the fact it shows u can do decent flames with water based paints. although he does make it look easier than it is.
just crack out ur airbrush n give it a go. let us know how you get on.

jonmiller 28-09-2007 10:13 AM

All shells you've done look superb, What masking do you use, liquid or tape?? Just about to give fluid a go for the first time, how would you suggest to apply it??
Blue flames on the black looks really good.
Cheers

jonmiller 29-09-2007 10:50 AM

thanks dude!:D
i use both liquid and vinyl, it just depends on the shell/design.
i put liquid mask on in roughly 4 medium coats. i just pour a blob in the shell n spread it around with a small bit of sponge.

jonmiller 01-10-2007 03:16 PM

hiya
a customer gave me a picture of a shell he had seen on the internet and asked me to do him a copy.
i dont like the design or the colors personally and wouldve liked to have been given the freedom to alter the design and colors into something more my style but hey, whatever makes the customer happy as thats the main thing.
so anyway, heres an xb8 shell
