That would be ace! I'll take you up on that next time I see you - I wouldn't mind a watch of those.

If you've seen the Icelandic 'forumla off road' buggies, they are so powerful they can actually drive over lakes and the like. So, what setup do you think it would take to do the same, or is it even possible, with a 1/10th off road buggy?

Here's what I mean:

Everything from the car to the electrics, tyres, setup and modifications - what would YOU do if you wanted to give it a go? :)

You never know, it might make an interesting article, hehe.

Well I did it way back in the late 80's with a clod buster. I glued the tires but forgot the holes on the wheels, so went halfway across the Cwmbran boating lake in south wales and sank. Still it did one hundred yards or so before it began to sink. still I left it there, but have heard someone fished it out so good for them

Welshy40 01-06-2007 03:45 PM

it sank

Yes it was but when you are a teenager you do daft things. Still it was funny.

Wow! 2 year bump!!

The worst bit is that I remember this thread:thumbsup:

just goes to prove you need low entry speed and high power/revs. 4wd would be best though as it would provide lift on all four corners, think a smell fin running length ways under the chassis would help with directional stability too. once made an rc car that went on water, it had propeller though so nowhere near as spectacular. there used to be a video on youtube of a bloke crossing a lake on a snowmobile, racing against one of the icelandic supercars, that was awesome to watch

jimmy 19-08-2009 06:01 PM

I did actually start gathering some bits for this build- but then forgot about it!

Those proline sandpaws look like a good idea - anyone know who sells them in the UK?

There was a vid on Tamiyaclub, where Volksrod drove his Jugg 2 across a pond, sort of floated because of the Jumbo tyres, quite funny.
Sorry don`t have the clip though.

i have an old reedy video with cliff lett driving a yokomo across a swimming pool with huge monster truck wheels on.

A tamiya Durga would be an Ideal car for this build. I've got a 3.5 losi combo and an old lipo but my durga is a bit too nice now to use. I've always wanted to do the water skimming with an rc car. If I can get all the gear together there's a good chance I'll have a crack at this. I've had a nosram brushless speedo fully submerged when my boat sank and it still worked once it was dry and same goes for the losi system.

bbq 20-08-2009 04:31 PM

its done.
back when BK was racing for AE they did it with a Yokomo over a pool with cliff lett
as a life guard in the pool to pick it up if it didnt make it =)

soo dig out the old AE videos and put them on youtube
