Yes and very well. I think both schumacher and serpent are spot on purpose built chassis and not a compromise.

Compromise was probably needed for regulations under which you are allowed to change everything except of the chassis and conditions might change between rear- and mid-motor, i.e. ROAR regulations on non-sugared clay/dirt tracks. In our region, we have a mix of dirt and astro tracks, so for the average Joe a compromise car isn't too bad. However, there are still many rear-motor cars out there run by people who just don't care about their lap times so much.
For avid racers, dedicated cars are the way to go, including converted 4WDs for very high grip conditions - see TeamC, the upcoming Xray and all those conversions out there.

I have a news update on the Mid motor buggy and the SCT.

The Mid motor buggy needs to be tested more which is what they are currently doing at Serpent, they have told me that the release will be delayed end of December or early January. They want it to be a winner before releasing.

As for the 2WD SCT this is scheduled for March 2014.

No new truck at the beginning of our season in February...
...but still in time for our first outdoor race!

Has anybody tried the Spyder on Astro or carpet? I'll probably want a new 2WD next year (or for Christmas :p) and still wonder whether to get a more universal rear motor car for the many dirt tracks in our region or a dedicated astro car for my home track, which will have higher grip next year. After two years with the great Yokomo, it might be time for something new, and the only convertible buggy I'd consider (RB-6) is too expensive for my liking.

We had quite a few turn up at our club wednesday night,(carpet offroad). very quick but suffer from the usual rear motor no turn in syndrome. Richard Hicklin raced one and improved once he fitted cut staggers to the front, looks promising:lol:

. . .

Sounds good! I'll race my SC10 on carpet this weekend. If I manage to get this behemoth around the corners, the Spyder should be ok for me. ;)

@TomHow: Any ideas what style the mid-motor buggy will be, i.e. 4 gear, shaft drive, or Shuey-like belt drive?

Congrats, nice prize!

Flyinggekko 14-11-2013 11:11 PM

I ordered two sets + some spare-parts today. I'm glad their's still a 2wd buggy with a plastic-chassis.

Also a Serpent was my first own RC-Car, so i guess this will be a good sign ;)

There's always the B4. I wonder if Associated have something up their sleeves or if we will see a B4.27 in a couple of years...

Kurtje 16-11-2013 11:21 AM

They are busy with the new Asso :)

It's about time! :woot:
Heard about it from a usually well-infromed source some months ago, but with the B5, I'll only believe it when I see it. ;)

Snyder mid?

Any news on an ETA for the Spyder Mid?

OneKiwi 22-11-2013 09:52 AM

think its been pushed back to late dec/jan maybe even later

TomHow 29-11-2013 03:50 AM

Gear diff maybe standard, if not available as option. I am hoping gear diff std as will be better for carpet, not sure which is best for astro?

Same drive system as with rear motor.

Reason for separate mid motor according to Billy is that there are too many compromises to make a convertible car as opposed to separate model. I for one am happy to have two different cars, makes my life easier.

Expect January for release of MM buggy and hopefully 2 weeks for gear diff.

Tried my RM Spyder on carpet last week and it was awesome, great grip and corner speed was good so can't wait to try the MM :-)

Tip for build of front steering assembly.

Do not use the aluminium washers they say in the manual between steering and bulkhead, use these washers instead #600180 from 811 EP buggy, (they are washers from inside shock and went between piston and shaft)

http://serpent.com/product/600180

Of course if you use aluminium or brass bulkhead no washers required

mes 02-12-2013 11:47 AM

Edit: No new 2wd for me next year. Serpent's 4WD won't be available by spring, right? ;)
