Colin - have a word with Keith and see if he's interested! Would be awesome if Kamtec could be persuaded to start reproducing some of the most iconic shells from the Grp B era - RS200, 6R4, 205T16, Delta S4, Audi S1, Lancia 037 etc etc.

MHeadling 03-06-2013 08:55 AM

Your car sounds cool Hog, care to post up some pictures??

Did you fit the shell to your B44??

wezzer 03-06-2013 08:57 AM

i think the current cars look awesome, fiesta, citroen, and now the polo  i think they would look the nuts in proper scale,

colin367 03-06-2013 09:40 AM

Hog, its certainly do-able. Just need to know what chassis, size people will start to use. I'd love to say it'd be that quick to rattle off that list but........no lol

Ditto. This being the only thing holding us back!

Pictures are on the previous page chaps - post number #29 - the Audi S1 mounted on a TC4 chassis!!

Colin - I know it's not a quick job trust me - I know the effort that goes into just the banger shells (I've wrecked enough of them in the past!)

I'll grab some dimensions off the TC4 - I think with these it's very important to keep a scale look which the TC chassis can achieve. The issue I had with the mounting of saloon shells on buggy's was very much that they didn't look "right" to me.

Instead of hanging around for Kamtec to make some why not get ones that are already readily available?
Lancia Delta Integrale, touring car and buggy size, not forgetting Tamiyas own
Lancia Stratos for touring car
Peugeot 205 T16 for touring car
Escort Cosworth for buggies
plus whatever old bodies Team Bluegroove have copied, such as the Lancia 037.
Considering how long it took me to sell a bunch of old Frewer Metro 6R4 bodies not so long ago, and that Controlfreax have stopped production, there's not that much of a demand for them.

Hog 03-06-2013 11:17 AM

Have you got links for any of those shells that you say are available (other than TBG)?

I've scoured Ebay incessantly over the last few weeks and have come up with very few suitable shells I must admit. 2 x Escort Cosworths, a Lancia Delta Integrale, and a Peugeot 206 WRC so far. Yes TBG do have a few shells as well over in the USA.

The Rallyfreakz shells were not really suitable for racing as they weren't a single piece moulding - and they only did the RS200 and 6R4 from the Group B range.

I would like to keep this away from the "converted buggy" class of yesteryear - I think (as my conversion proves) that a converted TC looks much more realistic and scale than the buggy version.

I'll check out the pic Hog, have you raced it at faversham??

Garry 03-06-2013 02:08 PM

Buy this for £110, its RTR with brushed motor and 2.4ghz radio, and a Quattro body.

I've had a go on one of these on tarmac, and it leans beautifully. On dirt and grass though, its epic!

How would you control the rallycross cars to stop the cars not ending up like touring cars going over bumps? Where would the line be drawn? shells, tyres, ect.

Certian rules need to be made so that its clear whats what.

i decided to look at rallycross regulations and i can only find two that could be applyed to rc. the rest are dictating engine size and what can and cannot be removed.

one being:

"Under no circumstances can any part of the
bodywork or the suspended parts of the car be
below a horizontal plane passing 40mm above the
ground, the car being in normal race trim with the
driver strapped into his/her seat."

Ie 4mm in 1/10

the other being:

"At the start of each heat or race the car
must be fitted with mud-flaps behind all four wheels
extending to a minimum of 38mm either side of the
tyre tread and to a maximum of 76mm above the
ground."

Not raced it - took it for a blat round during practice and it went very well considering I had no idea where to start on setup. Needs work but within half a lap I had a huge grin on my face apparently!

Burty - if you look at the current crop of "Supercars" - the equivalent these days of the old Group B era, some of them do look like touring cars. Perhaps stipulations on ride height and bodyshell height may help. I don't think worrying about mudflaps is an issue worth considering really.

Tyres - well hopefully the surface would dictate that slicks wouldn't be suitable - or have it in the regs that no slicks allowed?

Shells - well it's got to be a rallycross car not a touring car. I'm sure a shortlist of allowable shells could be drawn up.

I was trying to promote this as a fun class idea - not the sort of thing that would warrant an endless list of rules and regulation. If anyone wants to run a TC shell - go TC racing!

Thanks Terry.SC - will take a look.

Garry - now that does look interesting!

Hog 03-06-2013 03:50 PM

Terry did you note that site also does Peugeot 206, 306 Maxi, Lancia Delta Integrale, Subaru and the Ford Focus? Prices aren't too bad either.

It's a start! :woot:

i get what you mean everyone hates regulation but when somone turns up with a touring car shell are you going to tell them to bog off? Say its not an Escort or any other group b car thefore you cant race?

Jamesk 03-06-2013 04:49 PM

Rc Mart in HK have a few shells too, i spotted a Nissan GTiR shell, now that will going back to my youth ( i had a mad modded one years ago).
I also have an 6R4 Metro shell an a Tamiya TA02.
Question is where can we run the cars with a course that is similar to a
rally cross track?

jK

A few of us may have been running Rallycars at kiddy as recently as last sunday ;)

Think I've posted on this thread before ..

WORM run a Rallycross championship for micro's indoors on polished floor and carpet, running Mini's and Mk2 Escorts .. and its flippin ace

Usually we use foam tyres but the best racing is when using inner tube donuts stretched over the foams = no grip !!! kinda has the feel of running a powerful group B rally car on gravel .. :woot:

This what we run ...

Its worse than that - what if someone turns up with a shell that claims to be a rally car but actually looks nothing like it? When rallying was popular around 2000 one of the things that killed it was Proline made an 'Imprezza' shell that was clearly a touring car aero shell slightly modified to have Imprezza style lights. It looked nothing like a true scale Imprezza but it was a whole lot quicker on the track.
In fact, by that time all competitive rally cars were running Imprezza or Evo shells anyway (Focus and 206 shells just didn't handle as well) and most had swapped the original scale wings for TC wings.

Literally the only way it can work is to have an approved shell list and it must be specific ie a Controlfreakz RS200 etc.
