100 cycles seems awfully low???

We range 300+ cycles on the Core packs, and I know most other LiPo's, if taken care of will last just as long??

That is incorrect A trakpower lipo is good for 100 cycles

I think a better way to put it would be it does not loose performance though its lifespan.

4800 sadlle to 4900 stick??

ash
the site says
100+ race-worthy cycles, 200+ for practice.

see the 100 plus? that means there saying you can get a minimum on 100 cycles NOT a max!

the 100+ life span is on trakpowers site trakpower put this as they were going by the plane/helicopter boys who fully charge a pack and fully discharge the pack in one flight, this is also discharged at max power (one cycle is a full charge from 6 volt then a full discharge)
they did not realize how the car world works where we top them up run for 5 mins and re top up. so you may get "3 car cycles to equal a full cycle, we are also not on full power the whole 5 mins, so the cell goes through less strain.

i can assure you that you will get far more than 100 cycles per pack and 100% at 100 cycles they will not fail just like that, the capacity will simply fall off, the voltage will remain
as tom has said he had a pack off me for trial along with chris long, toms was near 100 cycles old, chris's was nearly new, niether could tell the difference in power and run time.

heres one for you all,
3200 saddle £45 use one pack all day, IF you get YOUR claimed 100 cycles thats 0.045pence per cycle and 16 meetings with 4 qualifiers and two finals, with very little loss in power

can you do that on ONE set of nimh (£45 worth max value) and not notice a drop in performance?

To your last question, survey says....

Not a hope!

Aaaaah, when a brushed is stationary, there is a moment of deadshort as it starts spinning which is where the high ampage comes from. Brushless doesn't do this.

You are right Adam. In the short time I have been running the Core RC 5000 packs they have proven themselves to be absolute top of the line. You know I have only had them for about 6 months but I do use the heck out of them. I am also useing them in my 1/8 and larger scale cars. I am going to use 4 of them on my 1/5 Lauterbacher soon.

If you want them to last even longer than 3 to 400 cycles charge them under a liion setting. This will not fully peak out the pack greatly increasing the life of the pack.

Back on topic guys

LIPO is positively what the future will have. The problems that plagued generation 1 and 2 are really no longer. We are seeing gen 5, and 6 will come by 2009.

Sorry, back to the issue of the 20C - 25C again! I now understand about the output of the cells giving upto 100A etc. thanks for that
Just wondered what we currently get from good NiMH cells? Obviously most existing 4wd cars probably won't fit in more than a 3200 saddle lipo, so just wondered if that would be a reduction in punch compared to NiMH (although obviously the reduced weight would compensate).

Top line Ni based cells will provide about 40 to 50 amps sustained like around 10 or so seconds if my memory serves correct. It has been a while since I even owned a set of Ni batteries. This is one of the reasons that in high powered BL systems Ni batteries just dont cut it. There are lots of problems that show up when you under supply current to the ESC. Now read the ratings carefully on your lipos. Ratings are given in different ways. Company A uses 'sustaned' C ratings and then B uses 'peak' then C says 'continous' and I have seen others. Find out what they mean exactly. Now those that give 'continous' ratings mean that the cell will hold that current till the pack is depleated. Where 'sustaned' generally means 15 seconds or less. So watch those very closely.

Now you may ask what is a high powered ESC? Well basically almost all sensorless units. Mamba, Quark, BK, MGM, MTronics and others. Even the small Mamba 25 and the Quark 33 can suffer problems from Ni batteries not suppling enough current. In testing the Mamba 25 in a Losi Mini T we saw current draws in the 120 amp area. Granted this was for fractions of a second, but they were there none the less.

I have a X10 Perdator and what I did was fit an older Pred cahssis that was made for a stick pack. Everything fit quite well. Now I have made a 4400 mah lipo saddle pack for the new chassis. I have to say that I see no difference in the handeling of the car. But that is most likely my lack of driving skill. Now the new Schumacher CatSX has a lipo ready chassis or a saddle pack chassis. I know that in the US the lipo chassis is selling like 10 to 1 over the saddle pack one. But in europe they are selling the saddle pack chassis in almost the same ratios over the lipo chassis.

Thanks Adam - didn't want to sound like the novice I clearly am when chatting to people!
