Yes plastic kit shocktops are perfect, no need to change to alloy and add weight up high.
Just build the kit and run it.

I first ran my car with the standard plastic shock caps but I don't like the way they fit compared to the aluminium ones. When I changed them for the aluminium ones from my B-Max2, I couldn't tell any difference in handling but I do have piece of mind knowing they are sealed properly and up to the job.

The plastic ones seal properly and are more than up to the job! Yokomo Team run the plastic tops as a preference.
I'm swapping out the alloy ones for plastic on my bmax4iii on next shock rebuild.

I prefer the plastic for a couple of reasons. I worry about the alloy one working itself easier than the plastic. I also worry in a big crash that rather than just rip a plastic shock top off, that I'd actually strip all the threads on the body and have to replace that also.

I've run my YZ-2 a few times now and remain very happy with it. The only "upgrades" I have is a set of Yatabe springs and a brass under LiPo weight. That's all. No breakages, not found any weak spots yet. Great car. :)

I bought the alloy shock cap's but have not bothered fitting them as I like the plastic one's as well. But I did buy the alloy rear hubs and at this stage can't really notice a diffrence. I also have the 50g under lipo weight and some weight upfront. But the car itself is superb and my driving as come on lot's and that's mainly in consistency as it's so forgiving to drive.

Of course you won't notice any difference with the rear hubs. The design is the same and the quality of the plastic version is very decent. Alu/alloy is just bling, in this case. If you have the money for it and you do like it, buy. But it doesn't make you faster. ;)

Gaz,

Pritchard and Rotherham used YZ-2s at the Bury indoor winter series on slippy floor and they were about the best car's out there. Lack a little rear end compared with a proper mid motor but had loads of steering so didn't have to force rotation by braking hard into corners to get the nose in.

It was it's low grip performance that impressed me into buying one if I'm honest.

I'm sure if you put the shocks on the rear, increase toe to 3.5 degrees, shorten wheelbase and maybe move the rear shocks in a hole on the rear wishbone you will be in the ball park.

With my Team C cars I ran the TM2v2 over the TC02c evo in low grip as despite feeling less locked in it was just quicker albeit you had to be a bit smoother on the throttle... I expect the YZ-2 to be similar.

Thought i would be building the new car tonight but DPD didn't deliver it!!:thumb down:

My spares have arrived though, so i'll just have to spend all night looking at a front wishbone instead LOL!!:drool:

Chris

Exactly. Add a ball diff (over kit gear) and you are there.

I'll be back-to-backing my KF and YZ-2 at RHR astro track soon as Wednesday evening start up properly.

Mine is now built and ready for it's maiden voyage at Bury on Sunday.

Quick question on the diff,

I've built mine with 5k to begin with but the diff feels very tight despite the thinnish oil. Is it very important not to fill the diff above the cross pins on Yokomo diff's? I may have over filled it which could be my problem? With my Team C gear diffs they worked better if you filled a little over the cross pins.

Hope that makes sense?

Is it leaking or seaping at all Chris on the screw half?

I'll be at Bury Sunday too all being well

Chris

Chris Elworthy 02-04-2015 06:45 PM

Not as far as I'm aware mate.

It may be because the diff itself is very small in the yz2 it just feels tighter?

5k is a good place to start though eh?

It will slacken up when the seals bed in mate. Mine felt good with 7k in. Running 3k now, bit more aggressive.
