Schumacher's new model doesn't look as the mardave

The meeting voted for Construction Rules, and there were some small modifications. We added Rules to allow a 2S/21.5 class, and decided not to run that at Nationals. It gives the Clubs something to use. Many thanks to James Garrett for probably the best presentation of a rule proposal we have ever seen! Although there are valid reservations about using it at National level as an equivalent to the brushed and brushless motors with 4-cell and 1S respectively, we will be working (James and I, with others) to set something out that will give it legs for the Clubs.

We have two classes - GT12.1 based on kits costing less than £100 allowing hop-ups and home-made parts, and GT12.2 based on kits costing less than £100 with nothing allowed that is not in the kit, no carbon and no diffs. Drivers can choose which one they want to enter, but not both on the same race day.

GT12.1 kits can include carbon-fibre parts providing they are included in the kit and the kit costs less than £100. Diffs and other hop-ups are allowed, and parts can be modified and have home-made bits added. It's like GT12 racing on the same basis as 12th Circuit, with the exception of the kit price limit and that carbon parts are only those sold with the kit. GT12.2 kits must cost less than £100, contain no carbon parts or a diff, and have to be raced kit-standard without hop-ups or home-made parts - run what's in the box.

Both classes can use either G2-2010/4.8v or 13.5/1S combos at Nationals. Motors and batteries from the BRCA lists for 13.5/1S. There's a few bits of tidying up to do on individual dimensions, including wing sizes. Both GT12.1 and GT12.2 will run in the same heats, no separate heats for these classes at present. We've made provision for them to be split up when entries go over 20.

Bodyshells will be approved by the Committee and can be picked from a list. The old 12th body Rules will apply - must be a realistic representation of a GT car - and we will be working with all the body manufacturer's on that.

James Garrett will be the GT12 rep on the Committee. Give James and me a couple of weeks to straighten out all the Rules and then they will go up on the BRCA website.

Thank you everyone who has helped shape these Rules, and especially to those who attended the meeting today and worked so well together to get a set of Rules that were passed by good majorities in every case. This isn't the end, it is only the beginning. If we've got something really wrong, we'll put it right with the consent of the drivers during the season. As the years roll by, I feel sure that these Rules will evolve to reflect what the drivers want to do with new ideas and new technologies, as well as keeping the competition close and fun.

I hope no-one minds me jumpimg in-here.
I have a vintage kyosho plazma mk2 with broken rear axle (5mm diameter). Before it broke i reworked everything to make m-chassis bodies fit.
Seeing the supastox and mardaves I picked up the plan to get it running again with a better/ or no diff and readily available weels.
Kawada gt300 would work I think and would let me use m-chassis wheels and tires I have a bunch of.
Any ideas on wheiter the mardave or shum parts would work and be cheaper in the end?
The plazma diff is geared but has a tension adjuster that's coming loose (possibly due to my own mods for the m-wheels).

mr. ed 22-04-2012 10:47 AM

looks like the kawada m300 gt and yokomo m500gt use imperial sized bearings on the rear axle so... up to you guys for advise

Saw the new Supastox demo car in the flesh yesterday,

it is very sweet, top quality bit of kit, couldn't fault any of it, can soon pick faults with most things but i'm definitely sold on one:thumbsup:

stox217 25-04-2012 11:07 AM

Tbh this car has lost the initial reason as to why people loved this class (Mardaves) because they were simple to get up and people loved to make there own custom hopups.

But i dont like the route were going down now as we have two cars in a class now which used to be a one make series where your thumbs used to do the talking now its set ups and whoever has the latest car ect.

Anyways mine is on order

SlowOne 25-04-2012 07:45 PM

Thumbs will always do the talking. Now we have the GT12 Circuit Rules that embody the design principles of the original Mardave car, you are looking at the only two designs that make sense.

12th Circuit drivers have always had a choice of cars based on its design principles (solid rear axle mainly) and there have been lots of designs based on the same principles. Nonetheless, the same drivers have always been at the top of the tree, almost whatever car they drive. David Spashett won three 12th IFMAR Worlds with three different cars, and Andy Griffiths has won a dozen or more British titles with four cars to my knowledge - it might be more.

This class is no different. There is a huge assumption here that the new Schumacher car (in all its glory - I've seen it too!!) will be faster than the Mardave car, but that is an assumption that is untested. I suspect they will be closer than people think, and that Mardave will come back with some upgrades. Providing a tight rein is kept on the power source and the motors, it will still be the best thumbs that win the day.

Bring it on!! :D

kartdemon 25-04-2012 07:55 PM

Supastox all the way. Mardave were fun while they lasted.

My fav shop will also be stocking the Supastox spares too. Means I will get bits next day rather next week!

It is a cool looking chassis, took some pics of it last week, wouid defo like one to race at wbmcc.
just need to work out which motor to get, to race against the mo6's ? 2S chassis as have saddles etc ..
Most of the mo6 guys are running 10.5 and a couple are running 8.5 (tbh too fast, gr8 to watch)

I'm in for some WBMCC carpet racing with you mate

10.5 in one of these with 2S would be insane and i'd say undriveable at a guess... standard mardave G2 silver can was quick enough!

probably a very mild brushless... or even brushed with the cheap Ansmann £7 stock motors would keep it lots of fast fun!

There are some rubber tyres coming out for them too :woot:

appeals to me a bit more as i can't be bothered anymore with trueing and glueing foams so it would be out of the packet built ones anyway!

hopefully i wont loose too much on the str8, which will be roughly 30mtrs

are the rubber tyres the same as the m-chassis tyres they sell?

mark christopher 26-04-2012 06:23 PM

No mate, the tyres will be slightly smaller to fit the standard class size wheels... but you never know... Schuey may be kind and do them in the pit shimizu type pattern!

I'll go for the same sized motors to start with, they will definietly be rapid with that turn brushed in them and 2S... not that i believe i'm saying this for once... but maybe too much power tbh :woot: if they are too fast then we'll just have to put some caravans on them to slow them down a bit... think i'll be going for the mk2 transit body anyways... got to be done in the classic period Ford 'SuperVan' colours to match the speed of chassis

can't wait, first time i've been excited about a Schumacher release since erm... the Fireblade 2000! and that didn't really work out!

Apricot Slice 27-04-2012 10:18 PM

SupaStox arrived already!
Sure doesn't look like any kind of budget car. So many nicely made shiny bits! Perfectly clear instruction manual, Some tools, Servo saver, even some thread lock.

Hmmm, I sense more wallet bashing coming on. What're the wheelbase and track measurements? Can't find anything on the Schuey site and wondering if a Tamiya Mini shell would fit (210mm wheelbase).

Anyone got one yet? Thoughts?

fidspeed 06-05-2012 12:42 PM

my buddy picked his up friday night his 14 yr old lad (no previous assembly experience) had it build in a couple of hours on Saturday looks nice too

our club is planning to run alongside daves for a while, motor specs will be limited to current rules (no 2s powered)

pricewise there comparable to top spec daves i look forward to locking horns its good to see competion for the daves thats how progress is

else we would still be driving horse and carts and working 14 hours down pit or on the land (tongue well and truly embedded in cheek guys:thumbsup:)

SlowOne 06-05-2012 07:29 PM

Although Henry Ford probably never said it, it is always attributed to him...

"If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse."

No one asked for a mobile 'phone, a word processor, a touch screen or even a power source for their laptop on a long haul flight. The truth is that people will only ever tell the focus groups, interviewers and marketing people that they want what is already there, only better, faster and cheaper.

Competition never improves the breed, it just makes them extinct - no more carts, horses, pits or tilling the soil - but that doesn't stop that ridiculous mantra being spun out on every conceivable occasion. It's almost as bad as "let the free market decide." The market did decide, but the Governments stepped in to save the banks!!

A competition between people and technology is, however, one of the best ways of having fun. It's great to see so many people coming in to have a go now that the class is seen as lots more than just a 30-year-old design. May the best car win!!

Danosborne6661 07-05-2012 09:16 PM

Loving the look of these, don't look like they'll jump very well though :P

raymondkerr 01-08-2012 03:28 PM

Like the look of these for our club. Can the 2cell version accept normal saddle packs ? and would you beable to use just one saddle on the 1 cell chassis, or would you have to buy the specific 12th scale 1 cell lipo ?

6 cell/2s car does take two saddle packs, most are running 1s, 4 cell/1s car, yes one half of a saddle will fit giving you 1s:thumbsup:

Spoolio 01-08-2012 07:56 PM

The 2S version accepts a saddle pack but I hated mine so have converted it to a 1S by changing the chassis, battery nest and Velcro straps. It was an expensive lesson. A single saddle pack does fit in the 1S chassis but it flops about a bit so probably best held in with cell tape.

SlowOne 02-08-2012 07:48 PM

These cars work at a certain weight and weight distribution, and not at any weight or weight distribution. The reason we have a 950g weight limit is that if you run them lighter they are not as good, and if you hang weight outside the chassis width they don't handle well at all.

Whilst I appreciate that people are not too keen on 1S because they already have a 2S pack, or they don't like running a 2S speedo with a booster or receiver pack, the ideal combination for these cars is 1S with a Hobbywing 1S v2.1 or this new one from Schumacher...

http://www.racing-cars.com/pp/Manufa..._RC/CR173.html

...neither of which need the receiver pack or booster. Almost any 1S pack will do, but consider the SMC 6000 pack as it is very good and inexpensive for a quality pack. one should do even for a club night. HTH :)
