I've just got my first batch of cells through from the Doctor (latest spec 4200 SHV's), the figures are nuts!

Half of me is looking forward to running them and the other half a little scared. The extra voltage will be like dropping a wind at least!!!

Just got to track down some battery bars tomorrow and build at the track, anyway must get packing.

Good Luck Dan And Be Safe In Travels Dont Forget That Little Speed Secret !

Hi,

I'd like to know the right cut-off voltage to discharge the IB 4200 SHV's, I read here and there 1,1v, 0,9v, 0,6v, 0,5v,...,...
So, please share your experience, thanks!;):thumleft:

DR VOODOO 26-08-2006 10:42 PM

0.9 PER CELL THATS IT!:flower:

Defo, ran them today at Batley, ran a 11*2 checkpoint with tiny brushess and car was fast as anything. Quicker than Tom's 10*2 he was running.

Very pleased and would confidently recommend to anyone. Email Dave, he's very helpfull indeed!

Dan

bigred5765 10-09-2006 07:53 PM

nice one dan cheers for the info, looking to completly upgrade all are cells toward the end of the year, may be for first out doors next year

jimmy 10-09-2006 10:16 PM

Do people equalize a lot with these cells then ? I really must confess to never doing anything but charging my cells. I neve discharge (unless its by accident and I press the wrong button)

I am finding I am going soft (oooerr) toward the end (oooerr) of my runs (oooerr - enough), at the moment in 4wd. I think I have 1 or more cells in my packs which are dying prematurely like after 4/4.5 mins. I noticed it in a couple of packs last weekend.

losixxx 10-09-2006 10:35 PM

i discharge and equalize my cells directly before i charge them

DCM 11-09-2006 11:00 AM

Jim, you would definately bennefit from equalising before use, but to get the best advantage out of it, before your next run, drop your cells down, tray them, charge, discharge to give them a cycle, then just slap them in the tray an hour or so before charging, should give you better punch through the run, and not going soft at the climax (ooooerrrr)

super__dan 11-09-2006 05:12 PM

Yeah after advice from Dave I'm going to stop discharging after a run and actually put some back in if I think they are very low, then discharge and equalise before use, maybe not every time due to logistics but when I can.

Rich Lowe is very confident that these cells self discharge more than any others previous. If he discharges and smart trays them after a race, then he can often get false peaks when charging next time on almost new cells.

jimmy 11-09-2006 05:17 PM

I could do with a decent equalizer me thinks, I have the orion thing but it takes about 7 years to discharge - bah, I will have to think about it next year when I have some dosh

bigred5765 11-09-2006 05:56 PM

thought your only suppose to discharge and equalise just before recharge

Col 11-09-2006 07:17 PM

So, lets start from the begining. The only discharger that I own is part of the charger and only discharges at 3amps. I charge my cells at 5amps before each race and usually discharge them either straight after on Daz's pro peak at 30amp discharge or later at home at 3amps (discharge to .9volts per cell). They then sit there for up too 2weeks before getting another charge. What am I doing wrong here? (I have no equiliser either...):)

bigred5765 11-09-2006 07:27 PM

everything, charge them between 5 and 6 amps then run them put them away with what ever is left in them, this next part is just my personnel pref, i discharge them, from that straight to the equaliser tray, then straight on the charger for the next run, at the next meeting

so your batteries are kept in a charged state while not in use (i.e. all week?) or do you mean that they are discharged and equalised at the meeting, stored "flat" and then charged for the next race?

Cheers big red!!

DR VOODOO 12-09-2006 12:32 AM

I RUN A LOT OF OVAL RACING WHERE WE ARE LOOKING FOR VERY LITTLE CHANGES ALL TOGHTER TO MAKE A BIG ONE i charge the new cells including the one coming on the 15th t at a 6amp charge to a temp abought 53c depending on temp outside after a run i pull the pack to abought 1 volt per cell and let it sit untill next run i love the ctd x discharge tray by much more the new trinity tray works well to for the money you may ask away at any time im sending some samples of test stuff over there soon for approval hope to get good feed back thanks and watch the site for the big announcement 9/15/2006

yes just put them away with what ever is left in them after use, if ur leaving them for any amount of time partialy charge them, say 15-20 %

That was done due to the track being so slick and rutted....

Might see people moving up the winds from a 10 to maybe a 11 or 12 in 2wd.... 4wd WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

ashleyb4 16-09-2006 05:33 PM

DR voodoo are your cells BRCA legal or not.

A

jimmy 16-09-2006 05:46 PM

Yes they are.

super__dan 16-09-2006 08:53 PM

They are indeed as they are available in the already passed blue/silver heatshrink. They are also well worth if if you're looking at getting some new cells!

Hey Ash,
It is the cell which is approved by the BRCA, not the matchers label. The cell being matched by Voodoo is a BRCA approved cell.

You're right Chris, but this has been blurred over the last couple of years by LRP, Nosram and as we well know EPIC, all of which as IB cells in a matchers heatshrink.

Voodoo use the cells in their original heatshrink so they are fine!
