add a drop or two of opaque red to the trans or, make more passes with the trans red. the transparents are not completely transparent, they contain opaque fillers that when built up will achieve a certain level of opacity.

judging by the purple, although hard to tell from pics, it looks like it is a tad light/patchy so i would guess you just needed to make more passes.

you could also use a complimentary color to do the shadows on the orange like a trans purple. or add a few drops to the t red.

either way, experiment and see what works for you.

:)

Shame my camera wont show the floro colours though

cyclonetog 04-01-2012 09:10 PM

I was just about to ask which mask you bought and saw the RCS bottle in the corner of the pic.
I bought some myself and it's good eh? Will bring the shell to club with me.

How did you apply it?

smarkham 04-01-2012 09:24 PM

Yeah its great stuff was a bit thin in places I used a paintbrush but think it would be better and go further through a gun.

cyclonetog 04-01-2012 09:29 PM

I did exactly the same thing, brushed it on too thin in places but where I got it right it was great.
I don't have an airbrush it'll go through though :(

smarkham 04-01-2012 09:35 PM

Neither do i yet but think it would be a good investment but need to look into what guns it will go through first. Will save loads of time and effort will defo be using it again

cyclonetog 04-01-2012 09:43 PM

Google "HVLP" ;)

smarkham 04-01-2012 09:51 PM

Already been looking at em the 1.7mm gun is only £26

eyeayen 05-01-2012 12:46 PM

If you get a gun you need to look at how much air is need to work it properly, if you try and do it off an airbrush compressor one little squeeze of the trigger will empty the tank in a nano second, you really need a 25ltr tank even to power a small gun with a 1.0mm nozzle. 1.7 is too big for LM, I wouldn't go about 1.3/1.4.

smarkham 05-01-2012 01:15 PM

Yeah wasnt planning on running it off my airbrush compressor. I do have an old 20ltr noisy as hell thing i was going to try running it off :)

smarkham 05-01-2012 08:57 PM

Think the stickers have bought it to life very happy with this one now :)

good to see ya posting again buddy.

get some rcs body prep to eleviate those problems ;)

smarkham 04-02-2012 08:23 PM

Cheers Jon I have some but not had chance to try it yet. got to order a new needle for my gun before I can paint anything else bent it like a numpty cleaning it

jonmiller 04-02-2012 08:39 PM

just bend it back, i've been painting with a f'd needle for ages now. perhaps that's why my painting sucks. hahaha :woot:

eyeayen 04-02-2012 08:40 PM

How bent is it ? Can you not straighten it out. If it's just the tip is a bit hooked you can do it on a sheet of glass with the end of a scalpel blade, any airbrush book should detail how to do it, there are a lot of vids on you tube showing it but they're not all good and I've not got the time to go through them to find the decent one...

Jon - RCS Bodyprep - does it work with solvent based paint too or is it only for waterbased ? Reason I ask is I was going to be doing some solvent based painting tomorrow and I also noticed Sharkhams has a lot of Pactra in the background.

smarkham 04-02-2012 08:58 PM

It has a nice harsh kink in the end of it rather than a bend will give it a go though. The pactra stuff in the background is pretty much redundant these days not used any for about a year cant be arsed with all the cleaning between colours. I have the full createx range thanks to Jon:thumbsup:. Your painting is still awesome Jon my main problem is :thumbsup:the brush spitting and not having a smooth paint flow im assuming this is cos the needle is bent ?

eyeayen 05-02-2012 09:39 AM

Is it because it's collecting in the aircap and spitting out, if you see any of the american painters on TV airbrushing motorbikes and stuff they never have the the last piece of the aircap on, it's dodgey though and very easy to catch the needle and bend it.

smarkham 07-02-2012 08:47 PM

Cheers for the advice spraying without the aircap on the brush was much better

gingapaint 07-02-2012 09:06 PM

Aye, the caps a pain in the hole. I borrowed a mate's eclipse a while ago while I was stuck, she was using a castle type cap, and it was pretty good, without the risk of me mashing the needle!

They are really cool and also allow you to get closer to the job without that spidery effect happening. That said they give a slightly softer line when you're doing fine stuff.
