What do you think?

gainsy 08-06-2011 09:41 PM

Glad to see everyone else's hands get covered in paint, thought it was just me :)
Nice colours on that shell, i do like the carbon fibre effect, might try that out on the next shell

Dudders 08-06-2011 09:45 PM

Not for me but its awesome, GOOD JOB!

The Chef 08-06-2011 09:53 PM

I'm not sure that i like it but it does look quite good in the light:woot:

AfroP 08-06-2011 10:07 PM

I think it looks awesome

damselfly 08-06-2011 11:35 PM

I'm quite envious of the skills that you Guys have.
My art skills are limited to matchstick Men and i'm not very good at that.
Keep up the good work.

jonmiller 09-06-2011 06:54 AM

matchstick men made lowry a famous geezer ;) haha

nice1 kristan
although i think it would have been better leaving the purple sections off imo.

The Chef 09-06-2011 07:01 AM

I 100% agree Jon. But I guess experiment is the only way to learn. And I'm Pretty keen to learn:thumbsup:

jonmiller 09-06-2011 07:23 AM

indeed buddy :)

your order will go out today bud ;)

The Chef 09-06-2011 09:02 AM

Cool bananas. What is the thinner for chrome cele or water?

Thank you

U1timate PigDog 09-06-2011 09:31 AM

The red carbon look is cool I've done it with a few others just not red looks really nice

I sort of agree with Jon about the purple but I think if you had come up with a flame design or something to put it in with pin stripes around it and lightened the purple could be pulled off.

getting the colours right is really the trick to a body looking good.

You seem to be putting in loads of practice and its really showing with your latest bodies, so keep it up and push yourself a bit further everytime you do one.

Keep up the good work buddy and I look forward to seeing your next ones :)

jonmiller 09-06-2011 09:49 AM

chrome doesn't need thinning.

being solvent based clean up will require an auto type thinner

eyeayen 09-06-2011 09:08 PM

Nice to see some Candy's being used :), I quite like the purple section as it gives that top face some definition, maybe a pin line around it though would have helped pick it out more.

You're coming on in leaps and bounds Chef ! Good going !

gainsy 11-06-2011 07:00 PM

Can't wait to see the cat :)
Just a quick question, when doing flames do i have to use white with the stencils as the main flame or can i use a yellow or blue maybe?
Only asking as just run out of white & the shop's not open till monday!!!

The Chef 11-06-2011 09:02 PM

You can use any colours to paint flames.:D

gainsy 11-06-2011 09:35 PM

Cheers Chef, went for blue in the end, pretty happy but must practice a lot more before i do it on a shell

Ok here's what i done, not very happy with the outcome but it's my first attempt at fire, was thinking of doing my undertray like this but think i better practice a lot more, sprayed the candy orange way to think i think

eyeayen 12-06-2011 06:10 PM

gainsy - when you're painting it's good to check constantly as to how dark it looks on the good side, not the side you're painting. Hold it up against a piece of white paper to see how dense it is too, that should help you sort yourself out.

I know it's far to easy to get carried away with it though and you're so into your artwork you forget.

gainsy 12-06-2011 06:29 PM

Cheers for the advice , i had the plastic sheet taped down so couldn't check it, wont be doing that again, going to change to the paints Jon sells as my brush doesn't seem to like the acrylic paints, in fact i think i am going to get a whole new set up as my compressor is pretty naff as well, will just keep practising & not try to be too ambitious too soon

eyeayen 13-06-2011 12:22 PM

What acrylic paints are you using ???

If you've got plastic over the body, make a window in it, cover it with paper, and put masking tape around it so you can pull it off, check then replace it.

gainsy 13-06-2011 01:56 PM

I am using Faskolor paints, got these as this is what was in the local model shop
Good idea about the window, i will try that
Just going to concentrate on the basic stuff for now, my problem is i always try & run before i can walk, saw the fire being done on the web & thought that's easy :woot: how wrong i was, just goes to show how talented you guys all are & how much i need to practice
My compressor is only a 1.8 bar so is only kicking out about 26 psi & my brush is a Aztec A470, well it's not my brush(only on loan), will be getting my own brush soon once my kids stop spending my money :D

eyeayen 13-06-2011 05:33 PM

gainsy, I'll stop derailing the Chef's thread and PM you.

gainsy 13-06-2011 05:48 PM

I was thinking the same thing, sorry chef

The Chef 13-06-2011 06:08 PM
