Sweet! Look at that rear suspension! How looooong can a suspension arm be? :D
|
Just finished building a NIB Progress 4WDS... it's just as hopeless as I remembered it to be... very creative in a way, but oh so many hopeless solutions! :D It will rest on the shelf for sure!
OTOH I'm putting together a HotShot now. I'm really excited to see what it can do with LiPo and some modern tires! Some questions: -it it possible to fit a one-way in the HotShot? -ball diff in the rear in the HotShot? -tip as to modifying the wheel axles as to fit modern rims (plus make wider)? -where can I buy alu tubing to make side fenders/roll cages etc? (incl. bending tool) I have a friend with a lathe and two good hands... I guess I will be paying him some visits... :D |
We need pics !
I am actually building an Optima...:) |
Oh MY God, I love boomerangs and that picture of the Lucky Strike version has got to be the ultimate version!
My runner is not quite up to that standard but very good fun! How do I include photos? So I can put a picture on to see what everyone thinks. Steve |
NIB? Kinda nice to "pop the cherry" huh? :p
It smelled kinda funny when opening some of the bags I must say! I'll post some pics when I have the bodies done... (I never do one at a time) I'm waiting for my B.A.R. Honda stickers... (that F1 site could make them actually!) Btw. Gayo, I finally got 3x belt rollers into my X-5, now it works! :D @Steve: Totally agree! You can for instance create an account at www.photobukcet.com - then you upload pics there for free. After that you copy+paste the "image location" into this forum. You can also use the "paperclip" here when you reply to upload pics here as well. |

Most car and hop up manufacturers make 12mm hex drives, they are used on every current touring car and apart from Associated and Losi ones every hex drive will fit the 5mm Tamiya axles. |
Ahhhh....yes! Who doesnt love the vintage buggies especially when there are classes for them to race in. Myself and a few others here in Australia have been getting behind the vintage bugguy scene and have managed to get a few race meetings together.Just recently I attended a 2 hour vintage buggy enduro. Not quite your standard enduro as there were 2 drivers per team which allowed for 1 or 2 cars per team.It was a little more like a 'tag team' event. It was an absolute hoot with cars being allowed needed to be from prior 1990 and the control motor being the Tamiya 'Sport Tuned' black sealed can motor. The event went off without a hitch and saw many of the old cars from the day turn out some healthy laps.I ran my Topcat while my team partner ran his JRX Pro.Both cars faired well with only human error getting in the way of things-he he. Antway here's some pics from the event-enjoy.

@Bormac: nice pics mate! :D
Question guys: If I want to make the Hotshot wider, I would need to put on spacers on the outdrives, and then put on the hex drives. Any tips as to a suitable outdrive that is longer? Wild Willy 2 rear outdrive??? |
if you use the tamiya tg10 axle(or wild willy 2) it will allow you to use the wider hex.
we use this on TLT'S for crawling |
Racing down under
Great pics Bormac, i,m inspired to do something similar here in sweden. Those Topcats are sweet..and damn hard to get:)
|
I have enough parts to build 2 more of those-he he. I may even end up selling one of them.

hehe lots of familiar names here.
http://www93.sakura.ne.jp/~time-tunnel/07-12-2-1.html the 2 cars on the right side of the bottom picture are mine. and higher up some pics of the 2wd ultima; taken while I hadn't finished swapping the wheels yet :eh?: http://www93.sakura.ne.jp/~time-tunnel/07-12-2-2.html My 4wd optima/ultima in action for the last time. (didn't seal the belt well enoguh and destroyed the inners of the gearbox a little after this pic was taken) First thumb for the boomerang guys: here's a link to my japanese friends boomerang-hot shot-bigwig-custom: http://homepage2.nifty.com/good-rockin~/hotshot2.html Second thumb: this is me with another customated ultima at the KND racetrack in gifu, Japan: http://www.oople.com/forums/attachme...1&d=1202580994 |
Wonderful stuff Mr. Ed!
What is your friend doing with the gearbox? |
Thanks, I love my ultima's; they 've been with me over 15 years in this hobby.
Not sure what Yaji was doing there: it's one of the older projects on his site. Maybe he just needed a replacement: at that time the hotsgot was not re-re'd yet. He fixed a couple things on his predator using parts from easier to find brands in Japan also |

Really!!! So it's possible to fit a one-way into a Hotshot!!!???
One-way bearings you can buy in all kinds of shapes and sizes. What else do you need? The pulley itself? Any pics of this? Btw. There's mentioned about the re-release hotshot that it has reduced bumpsteer (new front hubs)... can't be much om a reduction now can it? It's still A LOT! |
To fit one you need the Manta Ray torque splitter set (you need the adapters and hardened steel shaft) and follow the pictures of what he did on the link above to modify the Hotshot gears to fit the one way.
At the time of the Hotshot release there was a one way mounted in the propshaft available from SRM Racing, good luck trying to find one of them. The rerelease Hotshot has the same amount of bump steer as the original, the new uprights give improved ackerman geometry to give you more steering. To get rid of most of the bump steer you need to Parma Bump Steer Eliminator kit. |
http://cgi.ebay.com/Tamiya-Manta-Ray...QQcmdZViewItem
-is that all I need? Aha! So it's the Ackerman... that explains it :D I just read somones post about that... but I just didn't make sense as the bums steer is at least as bad as it used to be  What does the bump steer eliminator kit do? Raisen the ball stud (a LOT)? Any pics of it? |
One Way
I have my friends old PB Maxima which has some oneway drive shafts which are length adjustable :o and fit the hotshot. Gonna whip them off and give them a try ! Should be ready to race soon if a big "Tamiya model shop" who's order I put in 3 weeks ago actually send me something ? I love to support model shops in the UK but is there any wonder why people just buy from Hong Kong !! It's a sad state of affairs when we can get something quicker when its 1000's of miles away as apposed to 70 miles away :(

Thx Terry!
It may seem like the Manta Ray one-way kit comes with a 16T gear, but the std. one in the Hotshot is 18T. The 16T has the necessary hex shape inside. He actually uses a file and makes himself a hex shape inside the 18T gear? Agree? Must be kinda hard to get that accurate enough... :D Could be worth a try of course! |

I can try to ask Yaji some details on the next occasion. He's working thru most weekends though (poor guy) so I don't see him often.
I got his email too and could ask him to join in on the conversation here, but don't think he likes writing in english that much |
That's great guys! I've ordered one so I'll give it a try!

Hey SHY, how's the modification going?
I met Yaji, and he said it was easy to do, but we got distracted before he could start to explain  I met him on a practise day and mine was the only vintage buggy at the track that day, but Yaji caught a couple nice pics of it. I didn't get the original pics, so here 's the link: http://homepage2.nifty.com/good-rockin~/2008gw.html A whole different event: vintage meeting at TonTon Land I hope the admins will excuse me for the links outwards: My own pics are here: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5333 And Mr. Tanaka's report on the timetunnel site: http://www93.sakura.ne.jp/~time-tunnel/08-4-27-1.html (make sure to click 'next' for the action pics) And to close the post off: a picture of the almost completed update of my ghost-rider |

Too many projects & too little time... |
no need for excuses ;) I hope you'll do better than me at my first yatabe race last month. I finished 3rd with my ghostrider. But there were only 3 racers in the vintage class
That swedish event bettter have a few more people show up :D Here's a couple pictures of the ghostrider in its new appearance: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9904645...gs/ghostrider/ with a new longer wheelbase, wider front and rear and improved front geometry. Lots of changes under the hood also and longer bigger volume shocks all around. Next yatabe race is the first sunday of august... and finnair got a 500 euro promotion for flying to Japan : Nagoya or Osaka. Who wants to join? |
