thanks mate, I have to say it's a cool car and a good idea for Tamiya to create a 'cheap' 501X. The 501X is still there for the racers, but this car should be a great step into racing.
|
It's a shame it's not a saddlepack configuration.
I'm looking for a tough 4 wheeler for Callum but that's a bit too crippleX-4 for my liking.:( I'm happy to be proved wrong tho'. |
the more i look at it the more i want it......hehehehe
|
The stick pack config is what will make the car sell 10 times more though Dom! Maybe someone will come out with an aftermarket chassis for it but I guess by that point you might as well get a 501X

The big advantage with this car is that it's much easier for the racer who has a 2wd buggy or Touring car to run it as their stick-style packs will fit straight in. I hate saddle packs, and I don't want separate sets of cells for my on-road and off-road cars, so for that purpose this car makes sense. It will never be as good as a 501x due to it's layout, but for most people that wont matter. It will probably also end up costing more if you were to spec it up to the same level as a 501, but at least you have the option of buying it at a reasonable price and updating the car as your wallet allows (or not at all if that's what you choose) The overall design might not be as fast on track as the 501, but for some people the convenience of the layout combined with reduced maintenance will be worth the trade off in performance. I will certainly be looking at one, depending upon how many 501 parts can be transferred over. Agree with you about the re-releases though, I need a Big Wig :D |
Who else thinks that DF-03 with the vintage Hornet shell looks good ?
vintage looks with modern performance ! To some degree a step-in version of the TRF501X is a good thing, but then again, I wouldn't recommend a belt car to a noob. Don't get me wrong, I personally prefer belts over gears, but fact remains that a gear drivetrain is more bulletproof and maintenance free. |

Dom, we are talking Tamiya here, so the car is going to be bullet proof, enough so that I would consider buying one for my kids to thrash. |

Are those shocks as bad as people say? |
unless they are changed internally they are what we'd describe as 'wank' at least in terms of racing the car. If you have some B4 shocks, they will fit and improve it no end.
|
The placcy shocks are awful, you may as well use the shocks from a Lunchbox.

My lunchbox handles better when I strap a battenberg to the front.

i know that because
i know how to read. BUT it might come with one?maybe? |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
|
do you have one? is it out yet?
|
didn't think so. It's just like the aero car. In the pics that were released, you would swear that it would come with a machined aluminum chassis. Now, it's coming with a molded one, and look! I'ts for the better!
|
Tamiya don't list a slipper as a feature - and despite the widespread use of slippers in off-road racing, they are still a feature worth mentioning. Tamiya buggies don't generally come with slippers so its wise to assume this car doesnt- especially given the superb knowledge of some of the posters on this thread who know the slipper will be a hop-up sold seperately (just like the DF03)
|
whatever
|
Lazerboy is now banned after his PM to me. I am very patient when someone clearly doesn't know what they are talking about - and I appreciate the enthusiasm of someone like 'lazerboy' but at the end of the day if you can't respect the information of people that simply know more - then it's pointless.
|
if you don't like the comments, don't post.
If you olook at all the TAMIYA images, they don't show a slipper shaft poking out of either side of where the centre layshaft is, so no slipper unit! In the pics from the blog, that is probably a Tamiya Drivers car, with testing hop-ups, hence all the shinny blue bits. Why do you constantly have to challenge what we know? |
Never mind - he asked to be removed from the forum, so that's what I did. Let's get back to the topic of this thread anyway.. :)
|
hmm, will it handle a bl??thats the real question :)

slipper clutch one way and ujs are listed as hop up options
and i cant see any reason why it wont handle brushless as diffs...belts and pulleys are the same as the 501x according to the parts list will know soon as im having one :) |
It won't have a slipper because it's a Tamiya and it's not the R or MS version yet. ;)
|
guys, please do click on the link to the blog again, a VIDEO is up!:D

looks great - but who do you have to cuddle to get one before it's even out! :o
|
must tell the missy more about it...
christmas is coming.... hint hint.....:D |

I like the car, And I'm a sucker for Tamiya though I'm currently in sell mode rather then buy mode so I can't be sure yet if I'll get one.
I just wish that Tamiya had set their sites a little higher for this model, Imo its just too budget. Electric RC has moved on from the silver can motor, Good shocks and a slipper should be standard on a kit thats designed to be race capable. |
|
Colours are so so, but the shape of the shell is good! Hooray! The 501X is far and away the ugliest bodyshell I've seen in 29 years or racing... Also THE hardest to paint.
This one looks good! |

Another example that everyones taste is different. I think the TRF501X body is brilliant ! And I don't think the Durga body will fit the TRF501X |
Found these at rc-japan.de
They are labelled IFS but they look like the Durga to me. http://www.rc-japan.de/BigPics/ifs_1.jpg http://www.rc-japan.de/BigPics/ifs_2.jpg |
Exactly, I think that the car on those pictures is the DB01. I also wondering if this chasis is an evolution of the TA-05, some of the hop-ups por the TA-05 could fit on the DB-01. What do you think? :eh?:
Cheers |
Those pictures have got to be the Durga, touring cars don't come with slipper clutches.
