Hi everybody, hi Jimmy,

Could someone confirm me that the Asso springs can be fitted on the Yokomo shocks, please? And so, the same as for the B4? I'd like to buy the BX, so would like to buy the good springs too...;-)

Also, I think I can see on Jimmy's pictures that the Team drivers use the Asso shocks : is it? Why?

Many thanks for your help!

PS to Jimmy : I'm a prof sport photographer, just would like to tell you that your pictures (actions and others) are of a verrrry high quality, honnestly!! :thumleft: :thumleft: You have a very good eye, as we say!

jimmy 11-07-2006 12:27 AM

Hi mate!
The associated springs fit fine, from memory I think they are a tight fit around the shock bottoms, but they do fit and work well. The included shocks are great - as for some drivers using Associated shocks, like neil cragg, I know they run the rear shocks and different (higher) rear tower to alter the handling.
But to put it into perspective all the box-standard BX cars at the first UK national were in the A final (apart from mine of course! hehe), the ones with modified rear towers / associated shocks etc were in the B final.. So - stick with the standard stuff! :)

I'm not sure about shock pistons but maybe that is another reason the team drivers might run AE shocks, since the BX comes with unknown pistons and no additional ones for tuning - same for springs. They all know the B4 shocks - so no experimenting is needed.
The BX shocks are close in many ways to the AE ones, so perhaps the AE pistons fit- anyone know ??

Thanks for the kind comments also! :) and good luck with your BX if you get it - very nice to build.

there is a very easy fix to stop pins coming out , you simple cut a very small piece of heat shrink tubing and heat it up over the end of the cvd , just enough to cover were the pin goes round like MM wide

jimmy 11-07-2006 08:08 AM

They aren't CVD's tho, they are Universal Joints, so I dont thing its possible since it would interfere with the movement of the joint. I have some heatshrink on my b4 cvd's because I couldnt find the threadlock :p

bigred5765 11-07-2006 08:13 AM

yeh just looked at the manual on my web site, you might be right jimmy thats a horible disgn fault, dont no if you could get away with heatshrink tubing, worth a try though,o as you say small grove in pin?

If you use the Losi ones they are a little bigger and won't damage the threads on the shock body as much.

Note the oople stickers on the wing! 'Course I am neither the shell painter nor the photographer Jimmy is.

jimmy 14-07-2006 12:54 AM

Very nice! looks great, nice and colourful. Good choice of ESC too, my favourite.

Morlock 14-07-2006 02:03 AM

Thanks Jimmy,

First time I have used this ESC. Any suggestions on ESC settings for the Yoke (or for 4wd buggies in general) ?

Also, the Yoke distributor in the USA, Butch, hooked me up with some stickers from his personal stock when I dropped by to buy some spares from him. Very nice guy - showed him your site and he was really impressed by your review of the BX.

Bathy 14-07-2006 06:46 AM

Your car looks good Morlock, like the paint job a lot.

Regarding the BX, I got some new parts from Japan yesterday, going to be fitting them to the car ahead of this weekends National.

Had the following part numbers turn up:

BX-008RG, BX-008FG, BX-300FBA, BX-414SG & BX-4131OG.

Other than the front alloy brace the other parts are graphite upgrades for wishbones and steering arm/block. I’ll let you know how long it took me to break them on Monday, the jump for this weekend looks a lot of fun but might be the cause of a few breakages… we shall see!

jimmy 14-07-2006 07:21 AM

YEEHAAA bathy!! can't wait to see that gorgeous jewel of a car ping off the sides of the track like a pinball machine!!!:D

Morlock, on the keyence, not really off hand, I just love the adjustability of it and smoothness (or punch if you need it).

Morlock 14-07-2006 08:18 AM

Thanks Bathy,

I'll keep an eye out for those part numbers. Burt, the US distrib said they were getting some graphite arms etc. but he had not received them the day I stopped by.

By the way, it was teh first time I had walked inside a distributor's warehouse. Its a small warehouse they have in Los Angeles, with Yokomo kits and parts stacked floor to ceiling. I felt like a kid in a candy store. THey still had 3 of the previous plastic mr4 4wd new in the box.

He let me drive his Yoke drifter too in the car park and it was a blast.

Upload pics of your car when you have the new parts in :D

jimmy 14-07-2006 08:33 AM

Sounds like heaven! Thanks for putting the oOple word in too! ;)

im sure I'll get a photo of bathys car this weekend, will try before he drives it :p

Bathy 17-07-2006 09:56 AM

Hi Morlock, the graphite arms look very much the same as the plastic ones, just a kinda 'dusty shade' compared with the plastic ones.

Ran the car yesterday at our UK national series, (here come the excuses) I had some bad luck with wires de-soldering, turnbuckles popping off twice and it took me a few heats to get the car setup right (missed 2nd practise). Think I got it sorted pretty well in the end but this, added to my lack of race talent, meant I ended up in the bottom final on the day, doh!

The graphite arms seem pretty tuff, I got stuck against some piping at one point and someone slammed into the back of me, their car broke mine carried on fine.

Other than motor wire coming off, the only other problem I suffered from (twice) was a rear ball cup thingy popping off. I think one must be deformed or worn out a bit so I’ll replace it, didn't break any other parts all day so that was good.

Oh I did lose a bit of blue alloy, one of my front spring retainers, in the final which was annoying, not sure when I lost it, but again that's my excuse for doing poorly. Did anyone find one and can I have it back please?

Bathy 31-07-2006 09:00 AM

Hi Morlock, I took some pictures of my BX at the weekend, it has the graphite parts fitted but as I said they look pretty much the same as the plastic ones.

It's turned out ok huh, only tried it a 'gag' really because I had such a large sheet of the stuff, think I bought it from Microtech Racing. I’m going to do all my wings now as I don’t bother in getting them painted, and this is pretty quick and simple to do.

tyreman 31-07-2006 07:40 PM

Dave can you get anymore titanium or blue alloy on you car :)

PaulRotheram 31-07-2006 08:00 PM

yes.. QC2 esc with alloy blue heatsink :D
