October the 31st then for round 1? does that work :-)

OldTimer 09-08-2010 09:12 PM

Will also be at Silverstone like many others in September :(

Rather than trying to not clash with all the other meetings, would it be better that you did not clash with say one round from each of the other series ?. At most of them you can drop a couple of rounds.

I will be doing some of the Coventry & Kiddy MAM, but i will drop some of them to goto Ardent ;)

Btw why why are you pulling up the carpet ? its not a problem to race on unless you think it might get damaged ?. Just seems a bit of a pain for you guys pulling it up every month.

It will destroy the carpet but we will co-inside it with a new track layout so it will not be as much of an issue, besides I have volunteers that get free practice and racing so they have to earn their keep :-) <only joking team :-)>

Ok sounds good, i hope the paint is grippy :D

dbizzle5 09-08-2010 09:41 PM

Tough job youve got John! Theres so much going on its going to be impossible not to clash with something! Whatever dates you decide at least I can come on the Saturday to have a play if I cant make the Sunday!

lotussmart 09-08-2010 10:13 PM

What to do! Could either post dates where some will clash and people have to choose, do a series that falls out of the usual season, or just forget doing a series and do a couple of one off races and hope we get the numbers in and hope it builds to a point where we have our own indoor off-road race series for next year.

It's a challenge :-) I just can't wait to get my buggy out again!!

Admittedly this is a total guess, but by late Feb last 2 years it's felt like everyone has been ready to go back outdoors, if the weather is ok next spring I think you'll struggle to keep people indoors really by April!?

Only other date not yet about I think is the indoor British championship or whatever it's called, a single weekend in the new year sometime, might be worth checking it with the BRCA?

/tobys 10-08-2010 08:34 AM

or just run it Sept/Oct to Feb/March?

Sounds good be interested aslong as doesn't clash with out

lotussmart 10-08-2010 09:46 AM

So here's an idea:

Rnd 1 - 24th October
Rnd 2 - 19th December
Rnd 3 - 23rd January

Best 2 to count.

With a separate outdoor race at the Kick Energy Rally Show at Chatsworth house in June/July

Does that work? stick to 3 rounds this year and then maybe more next winter?

Barry Williams 10-08-2010 11:34 AM

Just a quick heads up, Under the BRCA section DC has posted the BRCA Indoor Finals (or whatever name it goes under) are on the weekend of 22/23 Jan 2011, so you might want to bear that in mind as its normally fairly well attended

/tobys 10-08-2010 11:59 AM

I think it's inevitable there will be some clashes and that you won't please everyone!

IMO you should try to avoid clashes with other local series...

lotussmart 10-08-2010 11:51 PM

Wow that is one crowded calendar!! Do you guys get any weekends off :-)

DaveG28 11-08-2010 01:18 AM

I don't think you can avoid them all, I'd let the guys who wanna do MAM outdoors go ahead and do that and then have yours for people looking for indoors!

With the players on Oct 24th and Broxtowe Christnas cracker the bank holiday following Christmas and Brit indoor Champs 23rd Jan I'd say look from:

Oct 31st - Clashes with Chadderton (Manc)
Nov 14th - Clashes with MAM
Nov 28th - Clashes with MAM
Dec 19th - Clashes with Chadderton
Feb 27th - Clashes with MAM
Mar 20th - No Clashes!?

Total clashes 2 cov MAM, 1 kiddy MAM, 2 Chadderton. All of those are "droppable" championship wise from the other championships, though whether that means people would switch who knows?!

Maybe pick 3 or 4 of the above (maybe ending 20th March if it's not after the start of regionals etc), I'd suggest making something different about the series too, either the surface (I'd love some slippyness!) or format through running FTD, or prizes if possible.

Just some random thoughts but hope they help!

Smartalec 11-08-2010 05:43 AM

There's also Stotfold, Eden Park and Silverstone winter series that people will travel too. Not sure of any of the dates of these though but i'm sure someone will know and post them up

/tobys 11-08-2010 09:21 AM

I don't think you can please everyone and you'll probably need to post dates soon otherwise someone else's series will crop up to further confuse things!

lotussmart 11-08-2010 11:18 AM

So Based on all of your assistance and help (thank you VERY much) we will go with:

(Remember the track will be available to practice on the day before)

Round 1 - October 31st
Round 2 - November 28th
Round 3 - December 19th
Round 4 - February 27th
Round 5 - March 20th

Finale outdoor and trophy collection race at the Kick Energy Rally Show at Chatsworth in front of 5000 people.

Best 3 count to the overall win, coverage in RRCI and Kick Energy websites, filmed for youtube by Kick Energy.

Prizes range from VIP entry tickets to the Kick Energy Rally Show, passenger rides in the Kick Energy Rally Cars, Hot Air Balloon rides in the VK Balloon and a chance to enter the record books by jumping our RC car over 26.8mtrs at the Kick Energy Rally Show in front of the crowds.

Trophies for top 4 in each final (more if we get good numbers).

Unique Race format (let me know what you think of this) 3 qualifying rounds then 3 finals, every lap of every final is added together and the overall winner is the person who does most laps over 900 seconds of racing (3 finals). We will also have surfaces from grippy to slippy so it will be very challenging.

Last chance to comment before I launch it and set up the booking in on the website :-)

Profits from this series will go towards building the permanent indoor buggy track that will be available for you to use 6 days a week, so you can all say you played a part in it's creation.

Cost £6 members, £8 Non-Members, 12 months membership costs £25 and for that you also get 10% off at the trackside shop and your tyres :-) membership is NOT required.

Pay in advance via our website through paypal and get a 15% discount, or pay on the day, up to you :-).

DaveG28 11-08-2010 11:34 AM

Love the unique format, but just maybe make it based on your two best results of the three, rather than all three? Otherwise people may leave if they break in final one?

Other than that all good from what I can see!

Cockerill 11-08-2010 11:37 AM

I'd agree with Dave, best 2 results added together rather than 3. Maybe 7min finals if time allows?

Nick 11-08-2010 11:38 AM

yeah best 2 out of 3 would be better! As Dave says if you break in one its all over!

DaveG28 11-08-2010 11:42 AM

I've changed my mind actually, make it all 3

Nick 11-08-2010 11:45 AM

Is that because you think the rest of us are car wreckers lol :o

It's because I seem to have so many cars these days I could break and just switch another on to finish the race

mark christopher 11-08-2010 01:01 PM

31st October is that not the brca agm?

I know which one Ill be at! Great choice on the dates! I can make everyone!

Not sure on the weird format, think Id prefer normal 4 rounds and 1 final but whatever you decide Im still looking forward to it.

lotussmart 11-08-2010 02:40 PM

So we will do 3 finals with best 2 to count just to try something different, might have to get the calculator out to work it out but I know we can work something out. :-) Booking in form will be up later tonight with a 15% discount if you pay in August (so we can use the money to put towards the track surface and paint etc..), fully refundable if you need to cancel. On the day it will cost £6 members £8 non-members.

Now one question, Control tyres, good or bad? which ones? from a venue point of view having control tyres means we can have plenty of stock on the day (often on sale or return so we don't have to fork out £1000s in advance and it also means we get someone, say Schumacher, sponsoring, supporting and promoting the event.

Feedback on control tyres greatly received :-)

Most say you have all been extremely helpful and I look forward to meeting you all and racing against you.

/tobys 11-08-2010 02:51 PM

Control tyres is a good idea - stops all kinds of exotic things being used! Perhaps you could even get a bulk discount from the manufacturer...?

Schu Yellow mini pins seems like an obvious choice...not sure what else could be used? Would be nice to keep the wear rate down...don't know how much the mini pins will wear (or if it even matters)?

lotussmart 11-08-2010 04:26 PM

OK just realised an error, I am charging the on-road users £10 each per round and as you will be taking the same share of the prizes (albeit more due to the added revenue from the offroad) i need to charge the same, so to make up for this blunder we will have a control tyre it will most likely be the popular Yellow Schuey mini pin and we will be providing them with a significant discount. Hope that's OK people.

lotussmart 11-08-2010 09:03 PM

OK so this is now a go live, website has been updated www.ardentracing.com/winterseries with dates, rules (which there are few of :-) and the booking system (basically a virtual product on our website) has been changed to include 4WD and 2WD buggies.

Now you users on Oople have helped create this so I want to give you something back in return. The first 30 people to book in and pay via paypal will get 2 rounds free of charge!. This is only being posted on here so keep it to yourselves :-)

So you book in for all 5 rounds (total cost of £50) you pay using paypal for £50, when paypal notifies me I have a payment it asked me to capture an amount, for the first 20 I will only capture £30 and the £20 will be returned to your paypal account and to your card if that's where it came from.

How do you know you are one of the first 30 and this is not just a scam to get you all to book? because this deal applies until I post on this forum and on this thread, that the 30 has been reached. So until you see that you will be getting 5 rounds for the price of 3.

Again offer is only being published here due to the help and assistance and enthusiasm for this series to take place.

I will make sure it is a good one :-)

See you in October!!

John.

/tobys 11-08-2010 09:20 PM

Any practice on race day and at what price the tyres? Presume you will limit the "per day" quantities at the discounted price?

lotussmart 11-08-2010 09:28 PM

Doors will open at 07:30, racing will start 09:30 so 2 hours of practice sessions in the morning, or come up the night before and practice until 22:00 if you like. Tyres I will get a price on but I assure you we will cut you a good deal on at least 1 complete set per person. How many new sets do you need for 1 race meeting? Also you can bring your own if you already have some.

hazeandfizz 11-08-2010 10:21 PM

Booked in and payed, should be a great event.

James.

lotussmart 12-08-2010 09:15 AM

Got 23 booked in so far so only another 7 will be done at the 5 for 3 Oople offer :-)

lotussmart 12-08-2010 09:22 AM

I forgot the short course guys! I will add that in too.

mark christopher 12-08-2010 10:22 AM

What tyre for short course?

What do you suggest? I don't race it myself (yet)

mark christopher 12-08-2010 11:27 AM

I'd suggest associated sc10 kit tyres but ask around
