I put my bid in and was highest bidder, then was strangly bid right up to exactly my limit, which I thought odd. The fact that the bidder ID's were being kept secret was also strange.

The seller does not know how much your maximum bid is though, so he/she is not able to bid upto your maximum with a dummy account. This is where the second chance system fails as the dummy account can back out of the "legally bunding contract" and not buy the item, giving the seller an option to ask you again if you still want the item. Please note that the seller giving you the second chance does cost them extra!
